  1. Well you only do one classroom in AFF and thats part of the first day. By the end of the day you jump with two instructors and demonstrate that you can do saftey touches to your main chute pull and be altitude aware. Plus demonstrate a safe landing. Second time out you are still with two instructors but this time they get you to do small turns but they still hold on to you, plus you still must show saftey touches, altitude awareness and safe landing. Third time out you have to demonstrate safety touches and they let you go for first time to see if you can hold a heading without losing balance, plus safe landing, Fourth time out you now with just one instructor and doing turns left and right and forward movement. Then safe landing Fifth time out you are going to be jumping out solo with instructor following and demonstrating 360 turns to left and right and forward motion. I failed this 3 times and passed fouth time I had difficulties with holding my heading. I am now going for my 6th exam which is backward flips with two 360 turns one to left one to right and flare forward. Once I complete this I have just one more exam to pass before I can jump by myself. Deland is home to Tandem and I have seen so many since I have been here but if I was you go straight for the AFF and enjoy skydiving with you in control, much more fun. The only way is down.
  2. I can only speak for Deland Drop Zone and the AFF there. Tandem does not count towards AFF and you still have to go through the whole course. Levels 1-3 you have 2 instructors holding you and 4 you have 1 and 5 6 7 you solo with no one holding you but they dive with you. You will have a radio on your chest and they will talk you down and help you with your turns and landing. However you are responsible for your own saftey. Before you dive you will go through the dive flow and practice it on the land. They will show you the dropzone map and tell you your landing course and then its up to you. Don't fret about it you will do well and happy diving Catherine The only way is down.
  3. If you come to Flordia you have to dive at Deland and its one of the premier places to jump. If you need a room I have one I rent out with internet, phone and cable tv at very reasonable rate. Skydivers only. I live 5 mins from the Dropzone. My contact details are in my profile. Cathy also check out my website www.blueskydive.net The only way is down.
  4. Ask away I will tell you anything you want about my skydiving so far and the AFF. Don't know if I am quaified enough to give you detailed info but I can sure tell you what to expect. Have a look at my first jump www.blueskydive.net my contact details are in my profile and I have a room you can stay in if you want to dive at deland and save your self a journey Catherine The only way is down.

  6. I am looking at shooting digital rather than film but would like your views on which you think would work better now that digital is leading the way. It's not that I am going to shoot right now cos I am still learning, however I am in the market for a new digital camera and I don't want to waste my money buying two cameras one for now and one for when I start shooting areial. Thanks in advance The only way is down.
  7. Going to be at drop zone all weekend if you around. Just ask pedro, nikky, scott, matt, cristine, cromy, shane to point me out and we can chin wag. Did 10 mins in Tunnel at Orlando today was way fun catherine The only way is down.
  8. Wow some one from my home DZ. I will be there tomorrow Wednesday most of the day and will hang out most of the day. Will be back the following day also till I finish my AFF going to do it even if it makes me broke. Will ask Shane about you and see if he can point you out to me one of these days. The only way is down.
  9. My name is Catherine and I have just got the skydive bug. I have SCUBA Instructor, Massage Therapist and Fitness Instructor under my belt now its time to try something different I'm only on jump 4 of my AFF but already I am so hooked I am going to go all the way so that one day I can do camera. I live in Deland home to one of the best skydive teams and they have all made me feel like family already. Now I have found another home here on the boards and I look forward to posting my progress and getting to know you all better. The only way is down.
  10. I have just started jumping and doing my AFF. I received first class tution and my first few dives so far have been out of this world. I felt confident in my instructors. They have some awsome camera men and the one who filmed me and took pictues made such a great job. Weather is always good here and the plane does load quite fast but it is possible to get a few jumps in quickly. The packers are knowledgeable and fast ensuring you get a fast turnaround. Taste the food in the Perfect Spot and you wont regret it. Food here rocks and the service is so polite and fast. I am lucky to live across the road from the DZ but for those of you who are not so close come to Deland and expect an awsome time with your new family. l8ters
