I have letters from my Senators in reference to confirmation hearings for members of the Cabinet who f**ked their taxes that say otherwise. Bottom line: You are complaining about people that may, or may not be breaking the law. For something so widespread, there's an apparent lack of convictions happening here. Why is that? . WRONG - I'm complaining about people who ARE breaking the law according to the IRS. I'm not complaining about people who pay what they owe. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

That sucks, and I'm disappointed in Obama. They should all be prosecuted, right up to the CinC who condoned it. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

Actually, the discussion started on the statement of a government investigator statement: Then, someone chimed in with, "well, the rich don't report all their income either and we all pay more as a result" crap... Bull-sh*t. The top earners pay an overwhelming majority of the tax revenue in this country. It's always been that way. There is a sizable amount of earners that end up paying NO INCOME TAX AT ALL. How exactly is that an excuse for cheating? Your opinion that the system is flawed does not excuse cheating on your taxes (aka stealing) regardless of whether you are an illegal immigrant or a billionaire. You raise not a peep when someone criticizes poor people who cheat, but get all indignant when the wealthy, who are stealing 100x as much from honest taxpayers, are mentioned. Typical double standard we see from the right. See Matthew 7:3-5 If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

I would consider that a reasonable request if the bank held notes on all of your neighbor's houses, your mercury painted furniture was full of termites and bedbugs, the woman you're living with has the bubonic plague and she's sharing her fleas with your rabid dog which you allow to run freely. Which is a completely irrelevant analogy. The banks are paying back the money because they don't need it. They think their companies are fine and some are posting record gains. But don't forget that G-S lost over $3 billion in the last quarter of 2008, and $1.2B in December alone.. So they lost money last year which means the government can now (4 months later) clean house and not accept the money back? So they've had one good quarter after a terrible one. Does that mean they and the system they represent is in good shape? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

I'm curious why anyone's rebate status should affect the validity of their opinion about tax cheats. edit to put the percentage value with the right number. Another one who condones illegal underreporting of income. Nope. Never said that, nor do I condone it. But if you want to be on public record with such lies, go for it. Curious why you would call someone who objects to tax cheats a whiner, if you don't condone tax cheating. My statement was in regards to those getting money back, or not paying as much in... but complaining about those who do by saying they can't be paying enough. Everybody wants the benefit... but "someone else" needs to pay in. Nothing in my statement condones tax evasion. Try again. The only complaints about not paying enough have been in reference to illegal tax evasion. And you call those complaints "whining". It's OK, we understand. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

Despite that, the top 10% of earners pay about half the total bill. The top 25% pay roughly 80%. So....no, that argument doesn't add up. I'm surprised that you would condone lawbreaking. The % paid by various categories is really not relevant to the issue. You and I pay more because some fat cats don't pay what they are supposed to pay. I wrote nothing about law breaking. It is not illegal for someone to hold an offshore account. The government doesn't like it because they can't tax it, but it's not illegal. It's illegal to have an offshore account and not report its existence. It's one of the questions on the tax form. The IRS estimates it loses hundreds of billions in taxes owed due to funds being hidden in unreported offshore accounts. The discussion here is about taxes owed but not paid due to ILLEGAL under-reporting. The rich and the small business owners are the worst offenders by far. The rest of us ARE shortchanged by these people. I suggest you google "tax gap" If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

If it were that simple, we ought to ban cars. Look at how many deaths they cause. Do try to follow the thread. He's doing a good job of it. Like you said, it's binary. Doesn't matter how they died, just that they did. In the case of the 30,000 under discussion here, I believe they all died of trauma caused by bullets fired from guns, If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

Proposed response to piracy that I heard today: deploy tens of thousands of autonomous, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned sea vehicles (USVs), some of which can be armed. I don't know the ratio legitimate Somali fishermen to pirates, suspect there are A LOT more fisherman than pirates. That is one common modus operandi the priates have used, however. Armed autonomous UAVs & USVs - bad idea. The suggestion was made by the President of Robotic Technology Inc, who’s currently working on a DARPA-funded project to develop a robot that obtains energy by foraging in the natural world (EATR). /Marg I am aware of one project to power a small UAV by energy harvested from turbulence in the atmosphere. GM News: Pres. Obama Team Considers Nationalization, Equity Stake

And until our betters speak, all us serfs ought to just get back to the fields? If that's how you choose to view yourserf. Apparently you don't believe in the powers invested in the SC by the Constitution. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical. -

GM News: Pres. Obama Team Considers Nationalization, Equity Stake

It appears that you need to read a bit more then. Because Article I, Section 8 provides no such broad discretionary power to Congress, or the Executive Branch. It's not written there. Bill can interpret all he wants. You apparently can't interpret it at all. The Constitution's purpose is to limit the power of the federal government. Not the other way around. The fact that you can't see that in an instant is proof of failure of the school system at its most fundamental tasks. And what does the Supreme Court have to say about the matter? The SC, not you, not rushmc, not billvon, are the "deciders" on the meaning of the Constitution. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical. -
and if you make that claim without qualification, you're are definitely engaging in truthiness. Remove the people who want to die, and the people that deserve to die (felons), and that number is quite different. Dead is dead, alive is alive. It's BINARY, no qualification needed. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

i read it the same way tom read it. The only opinion that matters is how the Supreme Court understands the Tenth Amendment. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

In that you are wrong, since he immediately clarifies why he felt it was a lie. You can only quibble that it wasn't technically false, so instead of a "lie" it was really merely a mistruth. "MISTRUTH" - the new euphemism for "LIE", brought to you by the gun owners of DZ.COM. The average annual number of gun deaths in the USA during this decade IS over 30,000. That is a fact, and denying it is a lie. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
-
In our highly literal discussions, it is not a lie. True Claiming that 30000 gun deaths a year is a lie is also misleading, definitely intellectually dishonest. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

Bet they'll never take money from the Feds again. Let's hope the industry learns this lesson once and for all, and is able to act before Congress gets any more of what we in the Army call "GFI's" (Great F**king Ideas). So the taxpayer investments turned out well.

GM News: Pres. Obama Team Considers Nationalization, Equity Stake
jerryzflies replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
It's never enough is it? President Obama, and your car team (who's never built a car): I don't think many shareholders of GM or Ford have ever built a car. Have you ever built the products of companies you own stock in? That has to be one of your sillier statements. I think an indigenous auto industry is very important for the USA. If the only way to have it is with government equity, so be it. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical. -
IIRC, the Ford Motor Company withheld the data it had on the Pinto gas tank from the govt., and the money men in Detroit ignored the recommendations of their own engineers because they estimated the liability payouts they'd have to make would be less than the cost of modifications. A perfect example of how corporations put the bottom line before safety. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

Do you know anyone who actually got a green job? (Rant)
jerryzflies replied to VTmotoMike08's topic in Speakers Corner
That "some think tank" just happens to be the NBER, OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED by the US Government since 1930 as the authority on the business cycle, responsible for determining the actual dates when recessions begin and end. Any other definition, including yours, is unofficial. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical. -
And your repeated fallacy is to ignore the costs of a remedy, as well as an inability to even define what the remedy would entail. Your error is not knowing the meaning of "fallacy". If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
