  1. HISTORY (which doesn't appear to be one of your strengths) shows that RED states on average take rather more of federal tax dollars than blue states. The RED states are the welfare states. Even if Alaska turns down ALL of the stimulus money it will STILL be getting more tax money back than it sends to Washington. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  2. I'm sure she sincerely disagrees with the stimulus plan, which is why she only took 2/3 of the money. Well, a bit OVER 2/3. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  3. NOPE - it's an example of SKYDIVERS having a double standard. See HERE. And Here In fact, a search on "PC", "Political Correctness" etc, brings up hundreds of posts, and those most critical are well known RIGHT WINGERS. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  4. But but - it's Fair and Balanced even when it's a lie. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  5. Press release from Air Line Pilots Association: ALPA representatives met with TSA executives this afternoon and were told that TSA embraces the FFDO program, that there are no plans to reduce or restrict its growth, and that the agency fully intends to grow and expand the program. Government representatives acknowledged that the program needs additional funding to achieve these goals, and that they are actively pursuing sources of additional funding. These funds will be used to enhance the program's management structure and oversight, which if implemented, will address an ALPA Board of Directors security priority. TSA is currently training hundreds of pilots each year and plans to continue to train at least that number or more into the future.. The size of the FFDO cadre has grown so large that additional resources are needed to provide greater structure and oversight to this important program, which TSA referred to today as "an important layer of defense". ALPA is very pleased that the TSA was so proactive in communicating its concerns to the Association and we are likewise pleased that we are able to report this good news to the membership, said ALPA President, Capt. John Prater. ALPA values its relationship with the TSA, and it is obvious from the way the agency handled this event that the feeling is mutual. Looks like the righties got suckered by the Washington Times YET AGAIN. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  6. But the record shows that on Nov. 25, Treasury Department officials signed a securities agreement to provide $40 billion to AIG in exchange for preferred stock and rights to buy common stock. In that 586-page document, the agency explicitly allowed AIG to pay individual executives as much as 3.5 times their base salary without any approval. The agreement also allowed AIG to set aside as much money for such bonuses for 2008 as it had in 2006, a year when the insurance giant was raking in vast amounts of profit from a financial bubble that would later maim the world economy. Who was in charge of the Treasury on Nov 25 last? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  7. They can call it whatever they like. I still resent taxpayer money (my money) going to further enrich a bunch of fat cats whose incompetence and greed brought their company to its knees. I resent a lot of things my taxpayer money pays for. Me too, but the 418 AIG financial products employees — who have received bonuses worth $395,000 on average, strike me as the least deserving recipients of taxpayer funded largesse I can possibly think of. These people ruined their company and had a major role in precipitating a world wide financial crisis. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

  9. We're still waiting for you to post your ideas on how you think this could be done. Something besides vague generalities. Be specific. It's time for you to quit doing drive-by insults, to quit sniping at what the pro-gun folks say, and actually come forth with an actual proposal of your own. What say you? There are already 20,000 gun laws on the books around the country. None of those are enough to satisfy you. But I'm sure you've got one more magic law that will somehow suddenly solve the problem, where all the others that came before have failed. So you'd be doing the world a favor by spreading the word about your magic solution. What is it? Put up, or quit your whining. 20,000 laws mostly made toothless for the benefit of folks like you, JR. 20,000 laws many of which can be circumvented by driving a few miles or just by CLAIMING not to be a nutter. 10. dying isn't just a matter of convenience. And a lot of people have died for the Constitution. A lot of people die every year from gunshot wounds while NOT doing anything to defend the Constitution. That's a weak argument. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  11. Quotas were/are used for AA. clicky Just because it WAS 30+ years ago does not mean it is now. 30 years ago I could gas up my car for 5 bucks. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  12. Our president at the time of the AIG bailout last Sept. was, of course, George W. Bush. Maybe you'd forgotten. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  13. Err...one administration isn't 2 months old yet, so any attempt to correlate the two is silly (or partisan). Plus Bush got the false boost for presiding over us getting blown up - any foreign policy event, good or bad, boosts Presidential ratings. Should Obama make a second term, it's the comparison there that would be more significant. That must be why Obama's approval is still over 60%, while 80% blame the Republicans for the economic mess. That must be why the Republican congressional leaders have even lower approval ratings than Pelosi and Reid. From today's Gallup: Barack Obama’s approval ratings have been very stable in the month of March so far, and his current 61% approval rating is more positive than the 58% rating for George W. Bush and the 53% rating for Bill Clinton in mid-March of the first years of their administrations. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  14. Is that the "winning hearts and minds" strategy? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  15. Well, in Sept. 2008 the govt. was under the watchful eye of George W. Bush and his Treasury Secretary, Paulson. I'm sure you voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  16. Maybe because the rewards are going to the very people who fucked the system over so badly in the first place. It's like giving medals for armed robbery. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  17. No, that is NOT an accurate description at all. You apparently missed this from the EO. Affirmative action refers to the aggressive recruitment programs, mentoring, training, and family programs that work to recruit and retain qualified individuals. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  18. sure. That works too. How would you propose to remedy past unfair treatment? You ARE aware that, on average, women in equivalent jobs make around 80% of what men make, right? Really?! Wow! Thanks for that clue. So because of that, I am justified allowing discrimination against others? Cool. Personally - It's hard to change social discrimination. Some people do NOT want to be educated that they are not the best or the brightest. Resistance is (unfortunately) common. But the question is does two wrongs make a right? You may call correcting for past discrimination a "wrong", but I don't. I consider it justice. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  19. Florida also has some of the most lenient laws, but no men with guns stopped yesterday's Florida mass shooting homicide. Wow, you mean the cops can't be everywhere at once? Quelle surprise... Florida restricts guns to cops only? When did that happen? Your position, which you repeat ad nauseam, is that armed citizens prevent such events. The overwhelming evidence, of course, is that armed citizens perpetrate such events. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  20. sure. That works too. How would you propose to remedy past unfair treatment? You ARE aware that, on average, women in equivalent jobs make around 80% of what men make, right? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  21. And in the real world, what happens is that UNqualified people are hired to fill the quotas and the rest of the shop has to carry the dead weight. Don't confuse discrimination with affirmative action. That would be like confusing armed criminals with law abiding gun owners If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  22. Affirmative action does not require an employer to hire an unqualified minority or female for any job. In jobs where minorites and/or females have historically been discriminated against, affirmative action requires employers to take positive steps when recruiting QUALIFIED applicants to redress the employment imbalance cause by the past discrimination. Affirmative action makes NO assumption that one race or gender is superior or inferior. It is not, therefore, racist or sexist. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

  24. In every game I know of, if even one player cheats and is caught, your entire team is then penalized to compensate the other side and redress the wrong you committed. Affirmative action is that concept applied to society as a whole. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  25. Ummmm - NO. And I also remember the S&L crisis during Reagan/Bush years, with Keating and MCCAIN. Ummmm - WRONG. OK. Give me the numbers. Show me where I'm wrong. Dow drops over 50%. Didn't happen during Carter's term. 1/2 million lose jobs every month for several consecutive months. Didn't happen during Carter's term. Record home foreclosures - didn't happen during Carter's term. Megabanks needing bailout - didn't happen during Carter's term. Decline in median home values greatest since 1930s - didn't happen during Carter's term. Departing president leaves record and increasing deficit to successor - Carter didn't. And from Friday's WSJ (brought to our attention by JohnRich) more than 8 in 10 Americans blame the Republicans for the current financial crisis. online.wsj.com/article/SB123690358175013837.html If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
