I am deaf, but like Billy I have been that way since birth. So I can't really relate to you either. I do know at least two people who have similar hearing loss like you. Both hated the hearing aid at first but grew to like them to the point of wearing them just about any time they are around other people. Alot of the discomfort had to do with coping with the extra sounds you got used to not hearing. I say go for it, you can always take it off when it, or someone you don't want to listen to bothers you. Not that I ever do that.

Happy Birthday J!! Are you an old fart yet?
-
I caught the last three quarters of it. What a great show. Although I could think of several other places to teleport myself then a crowded nightclub's ladies room
-
Congratulations Billy Lane!! Sounds (no pun intended) like you are really getting the hang of this thing. I hope to make a jump with you sometimes soon.
-
Congrats. Now hurry up and get that damn license and join us at the next attempt for a deaf world record! Between Popsjumper and Billy V. it seems you have surrounded yourself with some great jumpers. Keep us posted on the progress.

Yep that's me. Thanks again to all those that presented Skyfest. I am getting on SCR loads next year for sure. Also had a great time meeting all those DZ.commers who took the time to say hi. Didn't realize everyone would be so nice.

Hey Walt! It was a pleasure to meet you. It did take me a minute to figure you out since you weren't wearing your tie dye at the time.
-
So that's what that was all about! Congrats! I saw you getting the award but had no clue what for. Glad I am not the only one who couldn't hear it
-
Thanks to J, Jamie, Stan, and everyone else who helped to put this together. I had a great time jumping and meeting alot of you, even if I didn't say alot. Also thanks to those of you who jumped on the Silent Inside Hearing Outside load.

If you see a group of people deaf people come over and ask for me. I will get my face ready.

I have several reasons. One, is because of Jerry. Some of my earliest memories growing up around DZs is seeing Jerry run Seagoville. Second because of the group of deaf jumpers gathering there for some coaching and jumping. It is also close enough not to bust my budget traveling. Last but not least, because of all the great people going( some I know and many more I hope to meet, so introuduce yourself since I am rather quiet) and the great jumps to be had.

Yes there are some deaf jumpers in the area around Atlanta. At least one of them posts on here occasionally. Maybe they will chime in with tips on a deaf friendly DZ in the area. Meanwhile check out this thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1886809;search_string=deaf%20aff;#1886809 It has some tips on landing for deaf AFF students.

Can't remember how many were in each one, but I have had several. Learned something from each. Bottom of foot-Was walking barefoot when I noticed a trail of blood that went back two houses up the sidewalk. Never felt that one. Behind the ear- When you are running and see something immoveable, stop.(had a hearing aid on and hit a wall) Left thumb- Don't carve or whittle wood with a razor and hold the stick on the wrong end. That one took a year to get the movement back in my thumb. down the Middle of my tongue from back to front-not really sitches, but a sort of butterfly, Not sure how it happened but it was after falling from a second story window through a tree. Left eyebrow-Again butterfly, Don't try to kill a fly with a claw hammer on a iron milk crate( the hammer bounces back up) Upper lip-Split in two, Don't get too close to someone doing a slap shot, the hockey stick will get you if the puck doesn't. Upper tip of middle finger-Fork truck does not stop if the driver is not paying attention. Top of head- 300 lbs of lead held up by 4 guys on a jerryrigged hoist is not safe to stand under. Never said I was a smart guy. But I did learn alot

That don't work if you are deaf or drunk. I am one and sometimes both and my wife wouldn't always warn me. To quote BillyVance "Yeah, I'm fookin' deaf... so sue me... "
-
I get the impression that noone here has kids. Nothing like a kid trying to crawel into your bed between you and your wife at 2 in the morning to make you start sleeping with some cloths on.(Yeah I have heard the lock the door arguement, that just wakes everyone in the house up when the kids starts banging and crying). I sleep in boxers at least just because of that.

That is a pretty baby. Congratulations.

'bout fucking time, Billy. Welcome back. Now hurry up and post something useless. Oh wait you already did.

Congratulations Billy! You and Flo will make great parents. Now about them pics??
-
Got my dad to look at the pic and rattle his memory a little. These are the names he could remember. Leslie gott, Bruce Cunnigham, David Arquest, John Embry, Bob Chaffin, Jeff Smith, Scott Wall, John O'Neil, Eddie Flores, and of course himself. Some of these guys I have a had a chance to meet since I got back into the sport. I always look forward to seeing the same people I watched growing up around the DZ, if I am lucky they will tell a good tale or two, if I am even luckier they will make a jump with me. Keep posting this kind of stuff J.

In approx. ten years of working with medical equipments and CPUs protected by UPS, I have mixed feelings about UPS. I have seen them protect the computers they are designed to protect from surges and power failures. I have also seen them fail causeing the equipment they are supposed to keep powered up to fail. I have also seen them catch fire(once), as well as a few cases of batteries overheating. I have one on my cpu and at a hospital I will change the battery out every two to three years. My personal one I change the battery only when it fails. Failures are usually caused by bad(old) batteries and/or bad charging circuit( supposed to stop charging your battery when it reaches full capacity) either one can cause a battery to overheat.

Lip reading is what gets my kids in trouble. If they are mouthing loud enough for me to hear then they are probley already in trouble. Good luck with the kiddo!

That can't be good for anybody... there fixed it for ya.
