About time! My Cypres expires in November... :) What is the price difference going to be? (I should imagine that nil) Cutter replacement cost after it has fired? (I should hope that nil) Is it in any fashion a different Vigil from the ones manufactured now, or is it virtually the same Vigil with two cutters? (i.e. give it a probationary period or not...)

quickest way to set up a tertiary canopy rig
katzurki replied to katzurki's topic in Gear and Rigging
I did search! What is the easiest way to set up the simplest cutawayable tert canopy rig? What would be the expenses involved, time-, money-, and effort-wise? -
Um... I'd say try to set your freefall alarm heights to 0.
-
To sum it up in a few non-spoiling words: "Come join the dark side, Anakin. It's really good." "Well, if you say so..." "Shed your 14+ years of Jedi training and go kill everyone you've ever cared about. That's what you've really always wanted to do." "OK. I suppose I could give it a try..."
-
Yeah, it is fully inflated. In its day it was supposedly a state of the art reserve. Some argue this is the quickest-opening and most reliable, if not the softest-landing, reserve. No freebag means less chance of entanglement, they say. Um, they even toss in a figure and tell me that if you have a ball-of-shit for a main and launch the reserve with no cutaway, 98% that it will inflate. After inflation it also presumably automatically rotates upwind. Lots of jumpers in Russia still use it. I wouldn't. :)
-
Uh, you lose me... *blink*
-
No, possibly out of fear that the two might entangle. Canopies configuration put the jumper in a slow spin, the landing was somewhat hard, but manageable.
-
Oh, okay, I will not spoil it then! And I will not tell you who Dart Vader and Dart Sidius actually are!!
-
I felt Anakin's motivation to join the dark side was very, VERY lame, and it couldn't get any lamer.

http://www.novoselov.ru/frog.swf About 8 mb large...

The main canopy is a 9-cell F-111. The reserve is a Dactyl-like wing. To my knowledge, the jumper was unhurt; the two-out occured due to an improperly rigged RSL, or something to that effect.
-
I found my landings improved significantly when I went from a big-ass F-111 (~260) to a lesser-ass ZP (190). This is not advice, merely an observation :) How "tired" is your PD 230?

What jump # did you first land standing up?
katzurki replied to Nickkk's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As soon as I switched from a big-ass canopy with a big-ass metal spring trailing behind, to a big-ass canopy with a moderate-ass pilot chute trailing behind. Right after AFF, 8th jump I guess :) -
Okay, a couple shoelaces and bottles of some evil liquid later we've found out that alcohol-influenced pack jobs tend to be very meticulous. By some miraculous coincidence, rubber stows become really fragile and break all over.

Ha! I am not at my place! (gotcha). Although this is no excuse for him for not having a pullup cord at HIS place, I agree. But, that comes with extra beer, so I grudgingly accept
-
Around a typical household, what do you think will make the best makeshift pull-up cord for a single packjob? Need to show a friend how to pack, and neither of us happen to have it here. I'm thinking, Shoe lace, but the thing just keeps tearing up on me.
-
Ouch. How do you prevent this from happening if you jump a pullout?

First Cutaway - Story & Questions
katzurki replied to inzite's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I beg to differ. It was cheetah! Not to stray offtopic, gratz on living, was fun, too bad about the freebag. And we're still waiting on the beer ..er, I mean, I hope you are coming over there to jump on May 15... -
Sonic, manufactured by PISA circa mid-90's and Hornet predecessor, is supposed to be a Sabre1 clone. I did read the few threads dedicated to the canopy, but everyone who confessed to having flown one, has magically been out of touch since. If you fly one currently, or have flown it and lived, would you comment on it? Some tips, tricks, techniques, what's it like, what it doesn't like, ditch it quickly, or good canopy, or. Like, I hear a rumor that the ZP used for the Sonic is excessively strong (and hasn't been used since), so it's allegedly very sturdy and packs large. Bring it on :)

Namely, this (photo taken yesterday by helxen): http://photos8.flickr.com/12100106_fbc86a05a9_b.jpg

Battery, battery lid, the screws, the rubber O-ring, possible helmet clips, possible plate strap screws, software update. Check whichever you can service with no help from a "so called service person".

And just where, good sir, you were a month ago! *sniff*

This is so awesome of you, man :) Don't forget to include your mailing address!

Just in case somebody happens to be browsing this forum instead of the sleepy International one... Could someone help me with a somewhat urgent English->French translation? I speak a very limited French, and if I translated the text, it would obviously show... the details are here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1610347;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread (It's going to be a nightmare as it is, when French-speaking people start calling me to make reservations).

Hah, it was a funny feeling of "deja vu" as I seem to have read your post elsewhere in a different language, but it took me a good while to realize that :P As somebody who has to wear glasses 24x7 on prescription, I've thought about getting the laser thing done, but... it's not the going-in part that scares me (in skydiving, or otherwise), it's the loss of vision part that does. I think I'll stick with glasses for a few more years, until the technology is advanced well past the "innovative" stage. Thanks for the post tho :)
