It seems early on one of the first steps they did was to cut away the wings. I personally use that option as the very last option in any wingsuit malfuction outside of being too low (such as low open reserve ride) Kirk

I think one thing when flying wingsuits you should keep in mind, once the wings are cut away you have lost some control of the wing material ( how it inflats and how it flaps behind your arms). I notice they were on their back for most of the flight, I would think getting belly to earth as soon as possible would have been a great start after the intial balling up after the flat spin That is one scary video.

It would totally depend on how competent of a canopy pilot you are. If you are standing all of your landing currently except just one or two rare occasions and have confidence in your flying abilities then you should be fine under the Safire. On the other hand if your only occasionally standing up your landings and are not very confident in your canopy skill then I would stay you should wait to fly the Safire. Remember when trying out a new canopy do some high pulls to get use to how the canopy fly’s The best people to ask are the instructors at your home DZ that have seen your ablities Kirk Kirk

Are we up wind or Down wind. It makes a huge difference. Upwind I personally unstow brakes and go to rear risers. Downwind I just go full glide if I am getting good penetration. Kirk

Just last year I had to stop quickly for a red light (unmarked cop car in right hand turn lane). The lady behind me actually accelerated because she antipated me running the light. I saw she was not stopping so as I was stopping I moved as far over to the right. She just clipped the rear bumper (removing some paint only) and came to a skidding stop right along side my car. If I had not moved out as much as I did there is no doubt in my mind she would have totalled my car.

That really sucks. I have been rear ended a few times and now drive more defensively. I will always leave a 5-10 foot to the car infront of me space when stopping quickly , as soon as I know I will stop in time(leaving that gap) my eye go to my rear view mirror to check if the moron behind me will stop in time. If I feel they may not have enough room I pull up that 5-10 feet of room I have infront of me.

Rule 27 If you are going to work out please have some idea of the correct form used for each exercise, swinging the weight so you can lift heaver only make you look stupid. Rule 28 Also lifting a whole lot of weight but only doing 1/8th of the muscles movement only impresses you, (we are all laughing at you)

Wow, your situation is rather reversed from the norm. I would suggest taking him to an adult store and maybe exploring some erotica of some kind to help revive his lack of interest. You really need to have a sit down talk with him on what is the under lying cause and the fact in can not continue. Side note, do you know if he is getting off by himself and if he is have him stop it to focus on you. Kirk

It would depend on how you lost it. If you just misplaced it then I would highly doubt it. If however: you lost it due to a riser strike on an externally mounted Pro Trak with their clip, then I am quite sure if you drop them an e-mail you would be compensated. Kirk

I do not think Icarus is going to be that much cheaper. Last time I had a canopy relined by them it was approx. $300.00 plus shipping. Kirk

Skydive Oregon is the closest Dropzone to Portlandwww.skydiveoregon.com it is 38 miles from Portland and I believe Cornelius is about 10 miles or so from Portland Kirk

You could try either a Sony DSC-V1 which is a 5 Megapixel or the Sony DSC-V3 which is a 7.2 Megapixel. They are adaptable to exteral lens. They also have a remote switch. The only problem I have ran into is the remote switch is a LANC controler. So it has a curcuit board in the switch. I was able to modify mine for a tongue switch but it is kind of a mouth full coming in a little smaller both ways then a protrac size wise. Kirk

Tandem Instructors: Deploy early if students are having breathing problems?

I have a slightly different approach with my students. I tell them that some students may have difficulty breathing in freefall so if they have a problem breathing (it sounds funny but it works) scream and your body will react and breath for you. So if you have problems breathing scream. I have had a few student tell me that it was needed and worked for them when they had trouble breathing. In freefall it is really hard to guess what a student is thinking or needs, the only time I would end the skydive early would be if they are freaking out in the air and are uncontrolable to fly. From shoulder height and down you are basically using your triceps (just in case you do not know what that is it is the muscle on the back side of your upper arm). A few things you can do at home take two chairs face the seats towards each other. As far a space between them that will be determined by your size. You want to put your feet on one edge of one and just have the very edge of you butt on the other you then use your arms holding on to the chair and lift yourself up. You then lower your butt to the ground with your triceps and lift yourself back up. Another one would be close grip push ups. Get into a standard push up position except have your arms just a bit lower then your chest and only set apart as wide as your torso. You will lower yourself down keeping your arms tight against your torso and back up. Kirk

I know e-bay can have it's issues so far I watch what I purchase and look at the sellers review. I bought alot of misc skydiving gear and even a new hot tub off of it. The only issue I have ever ran into is I found out if you buy a few items in quick succession and pay for each on paypal separately , paypal may charge you twice for the same item. I ended up paying twice for a camera and after about a month of hassle I got the second charge reversed. I think the company is being fair. They are not the same company as before and they do not make that canopy now but they are offering to fix it. When it comes to skydiving there are quite a few variables that canopy manufacturers have no control over such as: how the canopy was packed, how it was deployed and at what speed it was deployed at. The price sounds about fair to me. I had a canopy I bought second hand that had around 250 jumps on it and the stichting was coming undone, it cost me $90.00 to have it repaired with shipping from the manufacturer (it is just part of life). I know people at my old job that would take this approach of pay me more before I take on the responibilty on. Most of the time they would just be left alone after that. Kirk

I only done a few jumps (fully zipped in first) but what I did was grab as high as I could on the cage and tuck your legs up to swing them on to the edge of the basket. Now this entire thing is a bit of a pain but from there shift your weight between your feet and your hands to shimie your way to standing. Now your standing on the edge of the basket using your hands to hold on to the frame of the basket. You can either go off facing out or step off backwards. What I mean by that is just hop back to clear the balloon but still fly belly to earth so you will fly under the basket. I was filming someone on both jumps to they left from the other side outfacing and I faced them and stepped off backwards. I found on the second one if I wait just a second after they exit before exiting I caught their entire flight on video. These are not the best frame grabs but here are a few of them

The last thing you should even be looking at with 38 jumps is putting a camera on your head. Take the money you were going to invest on the helmet and put it into more skydives Kirk
