  1. A friend of mine noticed a couple of weeks ago that I seemed to have inadvertantly developed the habit of dragging my feet and touching down with my feet slightly splayed like daffy duck. Video confirmed that was the case when I would bend my knees to reduce the distance between me and the ground before touch down. I havent paid much attention to what my feet due over the past couple of years. Do you keep a feet thought when landing when landing ? Now every time I go over the hill my first thought is where are my feet, where should they be. Just wondering.
  2. The Farm like my home DZ Palatka ( blatant plug) Has a reputation for being one of the friendliest DZ's around. Ask whatever is on your mind and you will be received by someone more than happy to chat with you.
  3. I love swwop 3 and 2 jpg. I love to see Stilletos being worked.
  4. Thanks, My best friend moved to So Cal and Perris is on my hit list for a near future visit. I dont ever land to try to impress anybody, but I also dont want to dork out with a world record, full landing area, up through manifest, across the landing area, barely miss the parked DC-9, ass slide.
  5. I am pretty moderate, Katana @ 1.6. If i was at perris on a hot day should I expect then to have a reinforced ass in my suit or would pulling toggles all the way down to the bottom of the flare arc ( which kills a swoop ) result in a soft touch? Thanks this is insightful as I have never left a Southeast DZ.
  6. I have never jumped a very high altitude DZ. I would know to expect more speed, but most simply put are you saying your flare power is lessend?
  7. I make no judgements ever, but wow. 73 jumps. I have 500 and I jump a Katana 120 at 1.55. At 73 jumps I had a sabre 170 and i thought it was hot at the time.
  8. Sparky, Just a metaphor. Most people who jump with and around me would testify I play it pretty safe, and I'm a pretty decent canopy pilot. I have 2 toddlers I fully intend on seeing grow up. Thanks
  9. Thanks Tom, I apreciate it very much. I'm kind of like Tom Cruise in Day's for Thunder, I am pretty good at drivin them fast, just dont ask me how to change the oil.
  10. Thanks for your reply, and while not a pro by any means I spent 500 jumps on the stiletto just got a Katana. I am not a rigger and have not really paid attention to the Cross Ports. Thats why I asked. Thanks for making me feel dumber.
  11. I hope this is not a dumb question but something I have never paid much attention to until now. I just noticed today that the oval shaped cut outs inside the ribs on my brand new katana ( 35 jumps) 2 of them appear to have some fraying and slight minor tears ( when I say tears mabey 2 mm.) It was just one of those things that caught my eye while I was packing. I opened up my other canopy, a Stiletto which has about 500 jumps to see what the cut out's looked like on it, and a few of them had some fraying and real amall tears. To be entirely honest I am really not 100% sure what those cut-outs puprose are or even their offical name. Those who know me know I am a freak about caring for my gear. I just want to make sure there is nothing wrong my my canopies especially my new one. Those cut outs have no reinforced seams or stitching so I would guess they dont undergo much stress?? Riggers please educate me, and thanks in advance.
  12. Thats a good point with other means of getting in. I will say this, I am fortunate I have the means to jump as much as do, but I have been doing alot more 5k hop pops. a typical saturday of 5 jumps has become 2 full alitudes 3 hop n pops.
  13. I consider myself very blessed that I have the means to participate fully in the sport although rising prices suck. My worst fear is that rising prices will put it out of reach for younger new jumpers. I never want it to become a white collar elitest activity because thats all trhat can afford to participate. That is the antitheses of our beautiful sport. It's not Polo nor ever should it be.
  14. I wont dare throw advise on downsizing to you, but If you like PD's products as I do, get a Sabre 2( just my opinion). I currently own a Stiletto and Katana and have owned an original Sabre and 2 Sabre 2's. Lightly loaded Spectre's tend be alittle thumpish on landing. The Sabre 2 flare range and forgiveness with stability and great opening's and responsiveness make it (IMO) the most versitle canopy ever made for any expierence range.
  15. Dont beat yourself up. Many a skydiver, myself included (level 4 )have farted along the way. i am just a few jumps away from my 500th and consider myself to be a pretty competent jumper and am beginning my tandem rating. This sport is a continuous learning curve. You will make more mistakes and learn from them on the way. I certainly do. What makes a good skydiver is when you make mistakes there the ones that dont get you hurt. Hang in there. When you nail your next AFF jump the one you failed will be an afterthought and you will be rewarded with more confidence at the end of AFF having failed one than if you cruised through with no repeats.
  16. Embrace the jitters. They will go away, I assure you, and when they do dont let complacency replace it. My progression was 0 - 50 jumps fear. 50 - 100 jumps cautious concern 100 - 300 no sweat ( mabey a little false brevado) 300 - 500 feeleing conformfortable in the fact that I love what I am doing and doing more advaced skills, while taking all precations to minimize the risks and staying accutley aware of them.
  17. Damn, What happened, did the pilot lay her down softly?
  18. Come to Skydive Palatka in Florida. Unless you are a wanted serial killer, or fart in the plane you will be garunteed to make plenty of friends. Look forward to seeing you .
  19. Thats a matter of reference. I havent updated my jump number lately, but have focused much of the last year on canopy piloting more than any other discipline. 75 of my last 100 jumps have been high hop n pops learing canopy techinqes. And with 10 jumps on that Katana I am only landing with a Front Riser 90.Quote
  20. My other main that I still use is a Stiletto 120, same wing loading. And odly enough it has never even thought of twisting me. Thankfully
  21. You may do this already , if you dont, take a few hop n pops and open at 5k +.Do absolutly nothing but practice flare. Pretend you are on final and practice to land up high 10 - 15 times,as much as altitude permits. You will find that when you practice a real quick flare it will swing you out in front quickly and the landing will be much similar to jumping out of a swing on a play ground at the top of its arc. Practice flare smoothly and slowly and tune in to what every inch of of toggle input is telling the canopy and feel it. Do this until you bored with the exercise. When your bored with it do it 10 more times. Chances are you will find the sweet spot and automatically apply it to your your real landing. I just went from a Stiletto to a Katana and have spent my last 10 skydives doing nothing but practice landings. Good Luck!
  22. I just recently purchased a Katana 120. My other main is a Stiletto 120, which opens like a Stiletto (fast, moderate snatch force) but usually for me always on heading. I love everything about the Katana except I am getting a little leary about the opening. It opens softer than anything i have ever jumped, yet after 10 jumps on it I have had 3 goofy openings, line twists (easily cleared), left diving turn (countered with right rear riser), and 360 spiral that had my hand reaching for plan B untill the lines twisted then thankfully released.I use the same deployment technique as I do with my Stiletto of equal wing loading, I am just trying to figure out if Katana requires a different techique or is it just much more responsive to any bad habits that complaicancy over the years may have produced. Thanks
