  1. "Life is a storm, you will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks in the next, what makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes."
  2. I have to agree with both you and piisfish, that both of those topics could be very debatable skydiving issues
  3. These seem to be the two most volatile and debatable topics in any society, and this forum for that matter, so which do all of you prefer to debate? Personally I'd have to go with politics.
  4. I"m an RN in the ER, it sounds as if you were dx with viral meningitis, because they let you go home. As was posted above there are two basic types of meningitis bacterial and viral, both of which have many different strains of the disease. The treatment for bacterial menigitis usually involves a hospital stay, heavy doses of systemic antibiotics, iv fluids, anti-pyretics(meds. for fever.), and close monitoring of neurological status. Bacterial meningitis is very serious, and can be life threating if not caught early.( a lot of this of course depends on the bacterial strain of the disease.) Viral meningitis when diagnosed is treated by treating the symptoms. Rest, increase fluids, tylenol or motrin for pain and fever, anti-emetics for nausea and vomiting if your MD presrcibed them, ect.. Just be sure to follow up with your doctor, follow his discharge plan for your specific case, and go to the ER immediatly if your symptoms worsen.
  5. It sounds to me like you may have been a little hypoxic, but depending on your age, past medical hx, and family hx these symptoms could be caused by a number of things, the most serious being cardiac or neurologic. You should schedule an appointment with your PMD, and if your symptoms occur at anytime before your appointment go to the nearest ER immediately.
  6. I think that skydivers in general are not perverted, but more extroverted than most people. It seems to me that we all have been blessed with an adventurous spirit, and have a great appreciation for things that stimulate our senses. We love the fear of the unknown, and crave excitement every day of our lives. We are definately a unique personality, and have an appeciation for life and all that surrounds us, more so than most people will ever know. We will always be different, and sometimes even misunderstood, but I'm more than happy to live with that.-Matt.
  7. The first thing that she should do is discuss this with her physician, if she chooses not to I would suggest that she use her inhaler right before she boards the aircraft, and then slip it in a pocket, so that if she needs to she can use it under canopy. I believe that duration of the first use of her inhaler should last long enough for the jump. All of this also depends on how serious her condition becomes when she is excited or nervous. She might also want to research the side effects of most bronchodilators, which can include tachycardia, tremors, ect..-M. Karas RN

    Age?

23 when I started juming, and presently 24
  9. The decisions that you make in the air in regards to your safety are your own. The fact is you made the right choice for yourself, and you should disregard the comments made to you after the fact. I bet they told you during your first jump course that every skydive is your own, maybe you should remind them of that, and also that it is your butt up there not their's. Good Job, and safe landings.
  10. whoops someone already posted that, well try this one. Did you know that if you farted constantly for 6 years that you would produce the same amount of energy as an atomic bomb. -No one thought up being; he who thinks he has step forward-Jim Morisson

I think that what attracts an audience is the patriotic feeling that they get from watching their country kick ass! I think that Americans in general would be interested in any of the skydiving specialties, as long as they saw Americans working together to be the best. I think that this not only goes for the states, but also for other countries as well. As long as the sport is exciting, dramatic, and is highly competitive there will always be an audience. For example, if the U.S. and another country were neck and neck in a skydiving competition, no matter what the specialty, everyone would be watching to see who gets the gold. I think any of the specialties would fit perfectly in the olympics, and might even spice them up a little. If you can win a gold medal for pushing a piece of ice across a frozen pond then, I think they can open the games up to just about anything.
  13. This is my 2nd season jumping there, and I will definitely be at the halloween boogie this year. I wasn't able to make it last year.
  14. The super otter is owned by Aerohio, and is up there 7 days a week.
  15. Thanks for all of your thoughts, and if any of you guys ever plan taking a trip, and making a jump at Aerohio let me know. We have a new super otter that that is just awesome to jump from! Blue Skies-Matt.
  16. I had my first cutaway a couple of weeks ago, and the first thing that I felt was relief. I was doing a 3-way turned and tracked, pulled in a stable body position, and I knew almost instantly that something was wrong. I had severe line twists, which pinned my chin to my chest, and also a line-over(told to me by another jumper, because I couldn't lift my head to look up). It amazed me how fast my mind reacted to the problem, and how crystal clear everything became when I made the decision to pull those handles. Within seconds I was under a large white reserve. What shocked me the most was my first thought while under that canopy, and that was that I had finally gotten that out of the way. I just thought it kind of odd that I would think something like that, instead of thanking god that I wasn't just a big spot on the ground. Having to pull those handles has given me an even greater respect for this sport, and I believe, given me more confidence as a skydiver. -Blue Skies-
  17. My name is Matt, and I am a critical care nurse in the ER at Riverside Hospital in Columbus OH.
  18. I've flown my Z-1 while freeflying, and have never had any problems. I have also seen a lot of other people at my DZ using their Z-1's, and I have never heard anything negative about it. I don't think that its much of an issue, but I would ask a more experienced freeflyer at your home DZ if your still a little skeptical. Blue Skies!!!
  19. That is a great story Michelle, and remember that under pressure some people fold while others focus. You obviously were able to keep a level head in a high stress situation, and this is a gift that many people don't have. Don't let this incident get you down, because from what I've read this is definately the sport for you. I hope that I act with as much poise as you did during my first cutaway. -Blue Skies-
