  1. thanks for that dreaming13000. So how would you describe one of these 'hard' landings in comparison. Would it be like jumping of the roof of a 2 storey house, from a 5 ft wall, off a bench.....? Thanks you for your replys peeps
  2. hi guys thaks to your response from my questin but to be honest i dont understand what allot of you are saying... about going backwards and what have you. Was looking for a staight answer really. Chris you said about jumping from 3 feet, its that what to expect on a good or bad landing? Thank you all for the feed back you have given me, not understanding it completely though. cheers
  3. Hi, After completeting a tandem jump 2 years ago i have been desperate to learn to jump solo. Im 26 years old and in good health. However 8 years ago i had a car accedent where i broke both legs and ankles. Everthing is ok now but i do have limted movement in one ankle so am limited when it comes to fast running and heavy impacts. The doctors say its up to me to make the decision, but see no problem why i can't. i was hoping the tandem would give me a good idea on how hard and fast landing are but we slid in nice and smoothe on our butts. I can understand each landing differs but what can i expect? some people say its like jumping out of a window (which i find har to believe by looking at videos i see) whilst others say its tip toe soft?? Please can you guys give me some advice? cheers
  4. i have heard you can break your back doing this? Is that true?

  6. Hi Jo i am in the same boat as you - looking to take up skydiving but worried about the landings. After speaking to some skydivers it seems ok. let me know what you find
  7. Thanks for that speach No Phear. I think its amazing what people can do if they set there minds to it!!
  8. Thank you guys, this information it is helping me a lot. Peregrinerose you said you had a student who had very bad injurys - how does he get on with skydiving? Does having limited movement in you ankle affect freefall much? I would also like to know about ankle/ knee supports. any ideas? Are there any companys that make them especially for skydivers?
  9. Hi i still havent started my AFF course but have done a tandem - where we landed by sliding in which i didnt want to do as i wanted to feel how hard the landings are!! Around 5 years ago i had a car accident where i broke my pelvis, legs, shattered knees, and a really bad ankle injury as well as losing half a big toe. I grew 9 inches of bone for my leg using a ilizerof frame and my ankle was screwed amungst other things! Now i am totally fine - except a have limited movement in my ankle and cant put a major hard impact through my knee. My other leg is 100% ok now. I have a physical job now, can jog for limited periods and have been backpacking/travelling round the world where i did a tandem and loved it!!! So now i want to go solo by doing the AFF course. My doc says its ok but she doesn't know too much. I think as long as i dont come in at a very fast speed and at a hard impact i'll be fine. Was wondering do you need to be a fast runner to land ok and you do you need to be able to take really hard landings... and what would you class as a hard landing? Jumping from 15 ft??? Not to0 sure on that. Hope you guys could help me out on this! Cant wait to start doing my course!!! Woop Woop
  10. After writting a post on December 9th, lablled BROKEN BONES - lower body, i have spoken to some one who say's that if you feel you may be coming in way too fast you can land on your bum? I didn't know this was possible? Is he correct in saying this? Do you need special protection or equipment to do this? Cheers guys!

  12. Hi, Do you mean jumping of a chair, or do you mean slowly stepping off? don't you have to jog a little when you land then?
  13. HI YA I THINK YOUR QUOTE SUMS UP HOW I FEEL - ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN MISS OUT ON, NICELY SAID. I WOULD LIKE IT IF YOU COULD ANSWER MY QUESTIONS? I AM DYING TO START SKYDIVING, I KNOW ITS THE SPORT FOR ME! MY ONLY PROBLEM IS LIKE YOU I HAVE AN ANKLE PROBLEM AND LEG PROBLEM. AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT I BROKE BOTH LEGS WHICH ARE NOW FINE- I HAD TO GROW 9CM OF BONE USING A FRAME AND HAVE A GRAFT DONE!! I ALSO HAD A V.SERIOUS ANKLE BREAK WHICH HAS BEEN SCREWED- NOW IT IS LEFT WITH LITTLE MOVEMENT. I CAN TAKE IMPACT THROUGH THE ANKLE AND JOG. I WANT TO KNOW ON AVERAGE ARE THE LANDINGS REALLY HARD AND FAST. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD TELL ME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE E.MAIL ME ADAM_ASHWORTH2@HOTMAIL.COM OR REPLY ON THIS, MANY THANKS
