I test pulled two Icon container reserves this weekend, which had both been packed only once, in the States. One was 30lbs, and the other was 28lbs. Each was packed by a different packer, but at the same dropzone. Has anyone else had any Icons which have had high pull forces? If not, I guess it's just the way they pack em at that DZ. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

Same goes for hackeys, which is why the only throwaway choice for me would be a PVC toggle...it stays put... Edited to add: I jump a pull-out pud... The Wings has a similar handle which stays put for throwaway...like Matt says below... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

You should leave it to turn itself off. You use up more battery by turning it off manually. (according to the Airtec Cypres manual). --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

Au contraire, my friend, at Skydive Strathallan, the Scottish Parachute Club, we do over 10,000 jumps a year, including 1,200 first timers, from 3 Cessna 206s, with the occasional turbine for big events. We are the oldest and biggest club in Scotland. Directions here. We're open usually just Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-dark (between 4:30-10:30 dependent on time of year), and Friday nights in the summer, 5pm-dark. This week we are open from 5pm tonight right through until dark next Sunday, for our Annual Student Progression Week. Why not come along...if you're coming by train or bus, let me know and I'll come pick you up from the station... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

The biggest problem you get with trying to launch a piece outa that thing is the floor...it's slippery as ice! I ended up sticking my toes in the holes in the floor for the the restraints, just to get some traction on diving exits...I far preferred floating, nice plane for that...just make sure you go down on exit, not jump up.... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! To be fair, the weather's not that sh1t in the UK, as a weekend jumper, I do 250ish jumps a year...(90% of those in Scotland ) Oh and temporary membership of the BPA is currently £24.08 which works out at around $35-$40, and lasts you a month. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

I don't know the USPA regs, but the precise setup for a SL strongpoint is detailed in the parachuting supplement to the flight manual for the plane. Of course, if you do totally ignore it, round here you get a letter reminding you of your responsibilities. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

Easier said than done...we're talking about a collegiate boogie here, so likely this person is even more broke than your average skydiver... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
meatbomb replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
And how is this not saying the same thing as: Experience is not only a specific number of years? By having both a jumps, and years requirement, you will end up with instructors with more experience. The jumper who does 500 jumps in a year will have 1500 jumps by the time they can become a Tandem Instructor...Would you prefer a Tandem Instructor with 1500 jumps over 3 years, or 500 over 1? Conversely, would you prefer a TI with 300 jumps over 3 years, or 500 over 1 year. Neither of the rules work in isolation...together they make the TI's job easier, and the world a safer place. PS Here a Tandem Instructor needs 800 jumps, 2 years in the sport, (50 jumps in the last 12 months), and 8 hours in FF (amongst other things). --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies -

Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
meatbomb replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
IT's not just currency...There's just physically only so much experience you can gain in a year...As a tandem instructor (which I believe to be the most demanding form of instruction out there) you need all the experience you can get... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies -
I have two jumps on my Tempo 210, one at Eloy in May last year (1,500ft MSL, 100deg+) and one a week later in Scotland (0ft MSL, 50deg-). I definitely thought that the canopy had a turn when I jumped it in Eloy, indeed I was flying at quarter to half brakes with one toggle to fly it straight. I had Brian at Bombproof Rigging check out the canopy, and there were apparently no issues. On the subsequent jump back at home, the canopy appeared to be flying straight... Conclusions: 1) The Canopy has an inbuilt turn, and I was uneven in the harness on the second jump. OR 2) The Canopy is perfect, and I was uneven in the harness on the first jump. Which do you think was more likely? PS I still jump the Tempo 210, because I know it works, and will save my life, and I have just purchased a Smart for my new rig. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

"The Parachute and its Pilot" Book
meatbomb replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I got mine a few weeks ago, and I have added 50% to my swoop distance since, simply by being truly aware, for the very first time, of how my wing flies. (This wasn't a good thing on my 1,000th though...) An excellent technical reference, and I'm just starting on the psycho-babble now...(j/k!) My one and only gripe...although I understand the message you're trying to convey, the language is sometimes a trifle too flowery for me...witness: Just a bit too much for me...but otherwise, an excellent book so far. -
I have found Icarus to be nothing but immensely helpful (not to mention they make the most kick-ass canopies on the planet - even I can swoop now! ). I ordered my XF2 169 (stock) on Jan 27th this year...By the time my order got to the factory, the stock canopy was gone, so they made me a custom coloured one, and I flew it for the first time on Feb 6th...That's a turn round of 10 (count em) days, including international delivery! Check out this thread: XFire2 169! It will be mine, Oh yes, it will be mine! --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies
