No, a B licensed or higher skydiver (B license is required for WFFC is it not?) at a skydiving convention attempted to jump out of an aeriel vehicle with non tso'd gear and got narc'd to the FAA for something he didn't even do by another skydiver...that's a better summary. Comparing an individual jumping non-tso'd gear or punching through the clouds to that of a DZO putting snot for gas in their planes is the WORST comparison I've ever seen... Well gee, the FAA has been all over Perris lately with the jet and all. So if I witness something that I feel is in violation of FAR's, I guess I should go find the FAA inspector that happens to be around as opposed to bringing it up with manifest / management??? For the record, I believe that jumping a BASE kit at the WFFC from a balloon was a poor decision by whoever tried. That being said.... Skydiving and BASE for all their differences also have some similarites. The largest being that they are in most aspects self-policing. Are you aware of just exactly what "self-policing" means? It means "keeping it in the family". That would mean you approaching an S&TA, an organizer, the pilot, other pilots etc. But you chose to involve "Dixie" The FAA is NOT part of that family. The FAA is NOT part of the skydiving community. In your ignorance, you believe that this was an open and shut situation. Your posts have illustrated this to be true. But guess what, "Dixie" works for the FAA...not just during the WFFC, but every fucking day. Dixie is now having discussions with her colleagues about the inappropriate actions she saw at the convention. They are discussing how the pilot didn't know better. They are discussing why the event organizers didn't catch this. They are discussing all kinds of negative things that could affect future WFFC's, future boogies, all DZ's etc etc. Maybe you like the FAA's head up your ass, and your DZO's ass, and your boogy organizer's ass? Inspecting my gear after jumping this morning I discovered a very small hole in my ZP PC. It's like it got poked with just the very tip of sharp pencil... just slightly larger than a pin hole, but I can see light through it. Is this an issue? Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

I don't think a paragliding helmet would be comfortable doing belly or freeflying. Tracking or wingsuit maybe. I wouldn't want to jump my motocross helmet, I imagine sit flying in it and it's not a pretty comfortable picture. I also imagine a hard opening...ouch. But then again it can't weigh more than a bonehead with a camera. If I were a swooper doing H&P's, it might be an option. The "cool" protekt skate helmets generally are half shells, lacking protection around the ears and such. I have the dorky one like you see in the wind tunnel and AFF with ear protection that I use for BASE...but I'm cool with looking like a dork. I wear it even if I'm jumping into water. The protekt is loud in freefall though. Downhill mountain bike helmets look nice...some have CE ratings for protection, which has to be better than nothing. I'm getting a Dainese downhill MTB helmet for solid/technical objects, and I think this would be a very good alternative for swoopers. Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary

I don't think the article is well written. On one hand, the authors talk of the well documented economic benefits of BASE to the Twin Falls community. On the other hand, they want to pass a tax on BASE because of the economic burden it places on the Twin Falls community. These two statements are very conflicting. And they talk of the noise generated from BASE. I don't see what noise BASE generates that can be heard over the semi trucks full of stinking cows driving over that bridge all day. I also saw no mention in the article that Dan's jumps were to benefit the Fallen Warriors Foundation. Maybe someone should write them a rebuttal, and in the process paint the editors to be unpatriotic and lacking support for our fallen soldiers families who were the direct benefits of the crane gig. And to say they don't want to discourage BASE but they want to tax it is BS as well. Taxes discourage business and investment, and would discourage BASE in the TWF community as well.
