Yeah, as if anyone would do that. FB is the oxycontin of social media and the number one source news source for most of its users. You're not just the product but the number one consumer. Ingenious business model, really. Gotta respect the Zuck for what he has achieved.

Funny they could have just read the Mueller report.
-
You can also use it to get in & out of Mexico without the need for your actual passport. Probably good for Canada as well, although I doubt they want any of us infected US citizens visiting these days.

Shadow on the left arm looks straight but shouldn't it be curved with a rack like that? We need to get some lunar landing hoax people in here to take a look.

Real ID California drivers licenses have been talked about for years out here. There were even extensions granted to the deadline for their requirement. I got mine when renewing last year. I needed my old license, my passport and two pieces of mail with my address on them to get it. One of the pieces of mail I used was the very renewal notice the DMV sent me. It was a long wait but not a difficult process at all. The only rub is that you need to fill out some online forms on the DMV website first. With my new license, my passport and my passport card, I now have 3 forms of photo ID. It was well worth the trouble. Of course, I'll admit it was probably easier when there was no pandemic.

The one that struck me most when I read the book: “As I crawled out of the abyss of combat and over the rail of the Sea Runner, I realized that compassion for the sufferings of others is a burden to those who have it. As Wilfred Owen's poem "Insensibility" puts it so well, those who feel most of others suffer most in war.” -

What argument? Regardless of what he can do, the president has stated his position on mail in voting. He also has stated that Florida should be an exception.
-
It's pretty obvious that the president wants things to be this way, except in Florida.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/07/new-york-election-failure-mail-in-voting/614446/ The results seem pretty bad. I hope my state does better. I wish it was as easy to vote as it is to collect lottery winnings.
-
There is no correlation because the situation is vastly different between voting and claiming lottery winnings. It's a useless comparison. If we were allowed a six month window to cast our ballots then it would be comparable. There is no need to check results of any election for this to be evident. If you want to discuss mail in ballots then do so. Trying to create some equivalence between two radically different scenarios proves nothing about either.
-
No it doesn't. Comparing mail in ballots to mailing in a lottery ticket is meaningless. The situations are completely different. Everyone in the country isn't trying to collect lottery winnings on the same day. Everyone does have to vote in person on the same day, however. Even if everyone did win the lottery on the same day, each person would have a six month window to collect their winnings. It's an absurd analogy that proves no point.

For many years I have enjoyed grilled chicken thighs smothered in mae ploy Thai sweet chili sauce. It took Trump to show me what fitting choice that was. Like Mitch Hedberg observed regarding a fork lift lifting a pallet of forks. So damn literal.
-
What does this scenario make you think about? Why would it ever be recommended by anyone that someone mail in a winning lottery ticket? If it's a large prize you may contact the appropriate entities to make a claim by mail, but then you could arrange a meeting to present the lottery ticket in person. You have months to do it. Why would anyone ever recommend just dropping a winning lottery ticket into the mail?

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/09/coronavirus-american-failure/614191/ Another good article in the Atlantic today. Yet again, a summary of how the current administration, with some media help, effed it up and effed us all in the US.

Very interesting article. Definitely some magical thinking there.

I didn't mean it as such, and I'm in agreement with you as far as the general topic is concerned. I merely meant to point out that coal was used a source of carbon. I knew I should have stayed out of this thread.
-
You can heat steel with electricity. This is done in a thermal arc furnace. How the electricity is generated doesn't matter as long as enough current is available. The rub is that producing steel from iron requires more than heat. Carbon must still be added, as well as a few other elements whose quantities depend on the final product you are after. The industry standard for much of the carbon part of the mix still still seems to be coking coal added in during the process. Not sure how the industry would address that to become carbon neutral. Still, burning fossil fuel isn't necessary to heat it up, although it may presently be the cheapest way to do it.
-
There is a further bit of nuance here with regard to Roger Stone. If I understand the process correctly, had he been pardoned, he would no longer be able to avail himself of fifth amendment protection. With his sentence commuted, he still has that right, and can thus remain silent. I'm impressed that Trump was able to strategize that move, although I doubt he figured it out on his own.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/06/how-white-house-coronavirus-response-went-wrong/613591/ Article today in The Atlantic. A bit of a long read but pretty much spells out how the current administration effed up the pandemic response. Skydivers may appreciate the NTSB analogy.

https://www.npr.org/2020/06/14/876584284/fired-florida-data-scientist-launches-a-coronavirus-dashboard-of-her-own I wouldn't trust anything Florida did with numbers at this point. This article is a couple of weeks old but I caught an interview with said data scientist this morning that drew my attention to it.
