There are blacklash issues to deal with too. There are new generation issues. Some women coming of age today, do not realize how good they have it. Many girls grew up playing Little League and soccer. They figure it has always been that way. They do not realize that that is a new thing. The world has changed, but there are still gender biases. --------------------------------------------- Excellent points. The world has changed and yet some 'feminists' have not. I'm in my early 30's and I grew up in a world that offered women special legislation and social considerations. As a path to equality, perhaps these were good. Are they now??? If we want equality, do we still insist on the social and legal special considerations? Doesn't really seem fair or equal does it? Sounds like you were up front in your price request and nothing unethical about your actions. However, you were on a jump of your choice and had no arrangement with this guy. Charging him an extra $10 isn't cool. Jen ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Do you really think that's true? Women who work outside the home, for example, so often snub women who choose to stay home and raise their children....and vice versa. Maybe these women aren't feminists.... I don't really know exactly how that's really defined. Mimi Abramovitz would define feminism in much narrower and more extreme terms than I would. Although I am pretty well educated and relatively independent, I really, really, REALLY like for a man to pamper me. I like to be treated "differently" than a man would treat his buddy. Although I do consider myself a bit of a feminist, there are other people on this site who absolutely believe that the way I like to be treated is discriminatory toward women. I, personally, would hate to see a time when I'm not treated like a lady by a man. Is that unfeminist of me? Is that unsupportable by feminists? Some of them? Most? I don't know. linz It's not supportable by me, for my values. The 'extras' you mentioned come with costs that continue to cotribute to a lesser status of women. If we truly seek equality, we need to let go of viewing ourselves as special. Jen ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

I'm sure many of us have recently considered the value of a Living Will. I found the following article quite helpful. Living will is the best revenge By ROBERT FRIEDMAN, Perspective Editor Published March 27, 2005 Like many of you, I have been compelled by recent events to prepare a more detailed advance directive dealing with end-of-life issues. Here's what mine says: * In the event I lapse into a persistent vegetative state, I want medical authorities to resort to extraordinary means to prolong my hellish semiexistence. Fifteen years wouldn't be long enough for me. * I want my wife and my parents to compound their misery by engaging in a bitter and protracted feud that depletes their emotions and their bank accounts. * I want my wife to ruin the rest of her life by maintaining an interminable vigil at my bedside. I'd be really jealous if she waited less than a decade to start dating again or otherwise rebuilding a semblance of a normal life. * I want my case to be turned into a circus by losers and crackpots from around the country who hope to bring meaning to their empty lives by investing the same transient emotion in me that they once reserved for Laci Peterson, Chandra Levy and that little girl who got stuck in a well. * I want those crackpots to spread vicious lies about my wife. * I want to be placed in a hospice where protesters can gather to bring further grief and disruption to the lives of dozens of dying patients and families whose stories are sadder than my own. * I want the people who attach themselves to my case because of their deep devotion to the sanctity of life to make death threats against any judges, elected officials or health care professionals who disagree with them. * I want the medical geniuses and philosopher kings who populate the Florida Legislature to ignore me for more than a decade and then turn my case into a forum for weeks of politically calculated bloviation. * I want total strangers - oily politicians, maudlin news anchors, ersatz friars and all other hangers-on - to start calling me "Bobby," as if they had known me since childhood. * I'm not insisting on this as part of my directive, but it would be nice if Congress passed a "Bobby's Law" that applied only to me and ignored the medical needs of tens of millions of other Americans without adequate health coverage. * Even if the "Bobby's Law" idea doesn't work out, I want Congress - especially all those self-described conservatives who claim to believe in "less government and more freedom" - to trample on the decisions of doctors, judges and other experts who actually know something about my case. And I want members of Congress to launch into an extended debate that gives them another excuse to avoid pesky issues such as national security and the economy. * In particular, I want House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to use my case as an opportunity to divert the country's attention from the mounting political and legal troubles stemming from his slimy misbehavior. * And I want Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist to make a mockery of his Harvard medical degree by misrepresenting the details of my case in ways that might give a boost to his 2008 presidential campaign. * I want Frist and the rest of the world to judge my medical condition on the basis of a snippet of dated and demeaning videotape that should have remained private. * Because I think I would retain my sense of humor even in a persistent vegetative state, I'd want President Bush - the same guy who publicly mocked Karla Faye Tucker when signing off on her death warrant as governor of Texas - to claim he was intervening in my case because it is always best "to err on the side of life." * I want the state Department of Children and Families to step in at the last moment to take responsibility for my well-being, because nothing bad could ever happen to anyone under DCF's care. * And because Gov. Jeb Bush is the smartest and most righteous human being on the face of the Earth, I want any and all of the aforementioned directives to be disregarded if the governor happens to disagree with them. If he says he knows what's best for me, I won't be in any position to argue. Robert Friedman is editor of Perspective. I guess none of you get why I'm mad. This is last time I will try to explain - I don't expect anyone to agree with me or side with me, Its just the way I feel. 1. He didn't follow her wishes promptly. Brain dead is brain dead. 2. He strung along her family for too long giving them false hope. 3. Her family was not allowed in the room until after she died. 4. MY impression of him - insincere. He and especially his attorney give me the creeps. I don't think anyone being starved to death is looking the best they have in their life. My family is important to me. It appears to me that Terri was important to her family and they were desperate enough to call in the troops (media). I can't blame them for loving their daughter. Yep, that's what pretty much comes across. You're determined (for whatever your reasons) to hate this guy ... whatever and whenever his actions were. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

Because she shouldn't have to die with ONLY her cheating husband by her side and yes he cheated on her, he broke their marriage vows. He should have divorced her years ago. Desperate people do desperate things during severally emotional times. I'm sure non of you have ever rallied the troops for your cause. I just have more compassion for her parents than the "husband". J Her parents became obsessed beyond all reason. I'm not saying they were 'bad' people, but they were out of control. The problem is, when one is in the middle of the emotional storm one can't see how emotional, unreasonable and even bizarre their behavior is. They are unable to to see how their statements and actions are completely at odds with what is really happening. They kept coming back time and time again, ignoring the facts of the virtually unanimous medical and legal opinion. Sometimes you just got to stop and let it go, ya know what I mean? China Has Gall To Talk About US Human Rights

"the United States should reflect on its erroneous behavior on human rights and take its own human rights problems seriously." There is much merit to the last line of this article. Patriotic ferver should not blind us to our own actions. Jen ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -

She will be less likely to be seriously investigated, less likely to be arrested, more likely to be released on bail (and for a lesser amount), less likely to be convicted. If convicted, will serve a lighter sentence and more likely to be released eary. She then will appear on talk shows and gain support for having her love suppressed by an indifferent male dominated society. :) Not really the same, eh? Thre was a teacher here in the US (Latorneau?) who has sex with a minor (here student) and only repeated offenses resulted in any jail time whatsoever). Hehe. Well, yes, they do actually. The catholic church, however, has been and is a repressive religion. It does amaze me anyone takes them seriously any more. Jen ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". -
Hmmm, liberal equates with intelligence and education. Let's see that means conservative equates with ...?

I was lucky enough to be involved with a most wonderful man who was a master of massage. The expensive commercial oils are way overpriced. Safflower or sunflower oil with a drop or two of your favorite scent will equal the most expensive commercial application. Jen ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it".

I'm interested to see how many women (who have been well supported by men in their wonderful JFTC efforts) help you out. It's time to give some back, ladies. Good Luck!
