Thanks for all the kind words! PSIPIKE02: I really appreciate hearing your experience and that certainly helps me a lot. Did you get gobs of line twists on that jump? Good luck on 6 & 7!! FREAK ACCIDENT: I also am scared about doing flips on purpose. I'm like you - practicing like hell to get through each jump. I'm sure you will do fine though - I know it doesn't count for much with me having such low jumps, but it really helps me to write my dive flow down and learn it by heart - pretending the jump is happening. I read something in the 2005 SIM about visualization techniques that has helped me. Its at the beginning of category D of section 4 if you want to look at it. JULIEBIRD: Thanks so much for this. It really helped me be at ease about looking at jump 4. Good luck on 4 & 5!! PIA: Thanks so much for the kind words! Edited for clarity _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"

Congratulations! I also passed AFF 3 this weekend! Sounds like our syllabus differs slightly. I also am so excited. From jump 1 to 3 I went from dreading a jump to barely being able to wait until next weekend! Keep us informed! _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"

I completed AFF 3 this weekend at Skydive the Farm I found myself much less nervous on this jump than AFF 1 and 2. Actually looking forward to it instead of "why do I do this to myself?" On taxi, I suddenly became MUCH more nervous, and had to close my eyes and do breathing excercises to quell the fear, but after takeoff I felt a lot better. On climbout I was actually really happy to be getting out of the plane. Did hotel check, exit count, and actually arched fairly well out of the door, watching the plane. Should have started the Circle of Awareness earlier, but was kind of enjoying the "hill". CoA went well, got the legs out sign, gave positive pressure on my legs. Did two practice touches instead of one, why? I have no idea.. Couple of toe touches, then at some point realized I was alone...tensed up, and started chipping slightly. My instructors redocked, gave me the arch sign and after I gave a hard arch, let me go again. I didn't do the best job on heading control, but I stayed close, at least I think.. At 6k I shook my head no, arched hard, and was about to wave off when I got the pull sign, Seeing the pull sign freaked me out, and my pull sequence was ugly, gotta really work on that. Had a nice opening, steered around a small cotton puff cloud and had a wonderful time under canopy. Played with burying a toggle and feeling the acceleration in the turn, played with braked turns and how changing the glide angle changed my spot. From there, I manouvered into the landing pattern, started my flare about right (according to instructor) but finished early, then I looked down and thought I was about on the ground and started to step into it. I was actually about 4 feet off and had a PFL (pretty funny landing). I am cleared to 4, but it feels like I need a lot more time being under solo freefall before progressing to turns, maybe I'm just being paranoid. I would appreciate some other peoples thougths on this. All in all I am really getting addicted to freefall. I have transitioned from being scared spitless to being scared but happy, if that makes any sense. I would love some other peoples thoughts and recommendations and also to thank my instructors from this weekend. You guys did a great job. My plan is to be there bright and early this weekend coming up to knock out 4 & 5, hopefully. _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"

I sometimes get a shiver when I look at the sky now. Especially those days with the cotton puff clouds dotting the sky, picturing looking at them during freefall.. _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"

What were you thinking during your first pull time?
JoeG replied to ntrprnr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had never jumped before AFF 1. I was like you but even more. I was SOO glad when it was pull time and it actually opened. I did all my manouvers but forgot to put my left arm up as I reached for my hackey, so went head down as I pulled - THAT was interesting.... AFF 3 this weekend weather permitting. _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!" -
ROFL I was doing that the other day and some guy waved back... _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"

I flunked AFF Level 2 jump... Has this happened to others?
JoeG replied to Mockingbird's topic in Safety and Training
I just did my AFF 2 jump last weekend. I passed, but I also kind of lost altitude awareness for a sec. At 6k I quit doing maneuvers, at 5500 waved, then following the "ARCH, REACH, PULL" I arched.................................................................................then kind of came to when my instructor stuck his finger in front of my face and completely lost my arch in my haste to pull. Bleh... But even though I know I screwed up, I'll learn from it. It also helped that another AFF 2 student that day pulled at like 13,500 after getting the arch signal, you know, the thumb down...he thought it was the pull signal. Makes you realize we are just human, this is brand new for us, and its not natural and has to be worked at. _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!" -

Hey Guys Had a great time! I was so much more relaxed this weekend. So is the TOtter gonna be around for awhile? That plane is so nice to jump from. I did my AFF lvl II this weekend. I can't believe how much more at ease I was. I did my jump out of a Twin Otter, and it was really nice plane to jump from. I think I felt myself being balanced and relaxed at one point and it felt really good. Turning was a blast - even with two instructors its amazing what just a small little adjustment can do for you. Anyway, I am hyped about doing AFF III. Thanks out to skydive the farm for a great weekend. I had a wonderful time. See you next weekend! _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"

Thanks for all the replies guys. I was out of town for a couple of days this week so I just got back. I am scheduling some time at the NC tunnel this weekend to work on my freefall skills. I am sure flyaway is fun, but I really can't afford that much for something that isn't really helping me learn skydiving. Once again thanks for your help! ~joe~ _________________________________________ "Knowledge is Power!"
