Bingo. And this is what disturbs me.

Ok Here's my take: I would switch out your TPR valve for a new one. A plumber can do this in no time. The valve has preset temp. and pressure settings that it will open under. IF your thermostat is out, the TPR vavle stops the tank from exploding by releasing the built up pressure. However, it's not likely otherwise your water would be scalding hot, causing burns. Here's a way to check it: Go to the water heater and find the TPR valve. It'll either be sticking out of the top/or side (near the top) of the tank. On it will be a metal tag with the valves specs. Look for anything indicating a temp. threshold. Go back to your sink and stick a thermometer in a pot of hot water form the tap (after it's been running for a bit) If the pot temp exceeds the valve threshold, it's likely the thermostat. If not, it's likely the TPR valve (they have limited lifespans). I would bet it has nothing to do with the thermostat, or else water would be draining out of there all the time, not just when you put demand on the tank. Don't go frying your elements, because all they'll do is install new ones, and you'll be in the same position.

And it's once we've already reserved ourselves to the above comment, that we preclude rationale in our behavior.

?? I guess I am. OF course it will matter. I'm not so "naive" to think that our world will function without oil, but the question is, what impact is our end-use having on the source? If we were to drill in alaska, we'd have 'extremists' up there sabotaging stuff left and right. But why? Why is it fine to do that on the other side of the planet, but not in our backyard?
-
So then, what might happen, all speaking hypothetically, if we (western world) were to revamp our society to use less oil, to the point where we could provide to ourselves? Is sitting in an SUV really worth knowing that the oil/gas consumption issue you're contributing to is worth it's part in the resulting conflict?
-
Ok, I'm gonna ask question here. Please, if it seems silly at first, I am going someplace with this: Who here knows _why_ they hate us?

I'm with sudsy and goose on this one. Your comments there are disturbing. Along with that footage. You say that you were shown no mercy, and that you don't feel bad for them. That they don't deserve mercy. But it's sad that you don't understand that that is the mentality that will feed this conflict. Your lack of sympathy for them "ragheads" is what just might get you, and more of your friends killed at their hands. And what will you do then? An eye for an eye does leave the whole world blind. I don't have answers, but I know that rejoicing and reveling in more death is not the path our society should travel on. Cuz it's a short one.

Speaking of taking the bible as a whole, and not only parts that pertain to what you're trying to say: Genesis 9, the text often cited as justification for eating animals, is recognized by most theologians as either a very temporary post-flood concession (all vegetation had been destroyed) or as a concession to human sinfulness (Genesis 9 is also used to justify slavery). St. Jerome wrote: "As to the argument that in God's second blessing (Gen 9:3), permission was given to eat flesh--a permission not given in the first blessing (Gen 1:29)--let him know that just as permission to put away a wife was, according to the words of the Savior, not given from the beginning, but was granted to the human race by Moses because of the hardness of our hearts (Mt 19), so also in like manner the eating of flesh was unknown until the Flood ..."

wildblue: no of course not, only in response to those who say that in the bible we're given the go-ahead. I'm not particularily religious myself, and am at noooo shortage of other reasons

Genisis, and Revelations. 2 of my Favs. It's like cutting to the best parts in a movie. Revelations is some scary shiat btw. I like the Genisis part, where it says that god gave the people and the animals the fruit on the trees to eat. When ever some one tells me that it says in genisis that god gave us the animals to eat, and do what we want with, I always referrer them to that. Genesis 1:28, God says: "Have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth." Immediately after, in Genesis 1:29, God states: "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food."

I'm a trades man myself. Went to the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Civil Municipal Drafting Technology. And, after 1 year, I'm out making around 20 bucks an hour behind a desk. When I was in high school, I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to do, so I said, " I'll go to trades school, get in, get out, start making money, and then decide, rather than spend years wasting money figuring stuff out in college or university." I'm glad I did.

Well, Like I said, I believe an angry response in warranted, but not what is going on right now. And about censorship, I mean, come on, sometimes, it's only common sense to keep your mouth shut. And I agree with the notion of the muslim community speaking (even more) out on these recent events.
-
I'm not muslim, and I wouldn't call myself catholic either. I was (catholic) for my life leading up to about 5 years ago. I'm kinda relaxed on religion. But I gotta admit, that in this world of so few things being sacred, everything being reduced, consumed, exploited, etc. Sometimes, I think that a certain level of anger is understandable. I mean come on. Saying that he would have wanted one of those women? That's like KY Jelly saying that Jesus preferred his women use it. I don't agree with the rioting, but for humanities sake, let people maintain what they believe to be sacred. It really concerns me that something that would be recieved better here in north america (not without an angry response mind you), in our _very_ open minded (almost numbed) society is taking a test run in the rest of the world. I don't know if I just articulated what I intended, but I hope so.

what did you Americans think of Bowling for Columbine?
Schroeder replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
Well, 'culture' doesn't answer anything. What is it about that culture, was the question. If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me? -
It always makes me laugh when meat eaters have such reservations about killing certain living things. For some people, their crusades are Dogs and Cats, or Horses, or Lady bugs, or frogs, baby birds, deer, what have you. I don't know ya sudsy, but if you're a vegan/vegetarian like myself, I'd understand your feelings. I just picture the average 16yearold school girl who will get in an accident trying to avoid hitting a cute fox, but goes right out later and has a nice big burger. compassion reserved for certain species is a funny thing.

yeah, awesome film. He went back to the room to die so that the girl could live. Those guys in roberta's place were there to steal something from her, and that's when Donnie happened on them. I love the Mad World song (a cover of a tears for fears song). I think it was an amazing movie, really well done, with a complex plot that was always a step ahead of you. Shot really well too,, I like their use of camera techniques and special effects, not oo much, and they kept them fairly subtle. Anyways, my 2 cents.

On the streetluging topic, I streetluge. And it's perception is alot like whuffos perception of skydiving. They look at skydivers and wonder how we can do that! So much risk! So fast! So High! So ect.! But with skydiving it boils down to acceptable, minimized risk. Same thing in streetluge. In skydiving, you gotta know your gear, and your buddies & more. In Streetluge you gotta know your gear, how to read the asphalt for moisture, bumps, gravel side roads. You gotta know your spotters and trust them. They work radios (in my case at least) and there's no way in hell some damn fool is gonna be advising me while I'm surfing out a curve at 100. It's a wicked sport that I try to introduce as many people as I can too. I've taken a 30 yearold mother of 3 out, and had her break 80kph, which was cool, but she was too unreliable so I won't bomb hills with her anymore. In alot of ways the two sports (skydiving and streetluge) are alot alike. We don't want reckless people, or people who aren't paying attention representing our sport and maybe killing themselves. At least with streetluge, our image is soooo tiny right now that we can't afford bad exposure. Anyways I'm rambling. It's a cool sport, if you're ever up in Vancouver BC, in the summer in the nice weather, lemme know and we'll go ride. If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me?

I ski, alot. My first love, and she abuses me. 18 years now, and I'm getting too old for the shit I do. Attached is a pic from 2 years ago, at a quaterpipe session (that's right, skis not snowboard) I'm up in the middle of the shot, kinda camo'd with the background there. If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me?
