  1. I did wonder about this, they taught me to check it as part of my gear check, make sure the ball doesn't come off the end of the cable. If you think about the forces required to pull the pin from the reserve closing loop and the forces required to pull that little ball from the end of the cable, its makes sense that the pin is gonna give in first. Yet another reason for RSL __________________ BOOM Headshot
  2. I backslid a little and so my reserve side instructor was visible. It also depends on how stable you are, I was release from 11k till 6k but had done a fair amount of tunnel time. Basically you will probably not notice if they release you or not. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  3. 45 Minutes is way too long IMO, I land out once in Z-Hills last week, and by out I mean just behind the tents and a little ditch (200 yards max). Within a minute there were people that had run to me to make sure I was ok, and within 2 minutes there was a truck there to give me a ride back. I saw the instructors physically counting the canopies that were landed and if anyone landed off they instantly sent people looking for them. How it should be really. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  4. Got back from the US of A yesterday, did AFF in 3 days, would have been 2 if it hadn't been so damn windy the second day (only got one jump in). Didn't have to repeat any levels and it was clear that the tunnel time help immensely. Managed 17 jumps in total and had a crazy amount of fun out in Z-Hills the people there were really great to be around. Hopefully get back out there soon. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_4400000/newsid_4407700/4407704.stm Not the video but a news story on there, made me laugh about the saliva all over the face, he wants to breathe through his nose (or keep his mouth shut :P). __________________ BOOM Headshot
  6. If you stick to the plan, arch and relax, you will be fine, even if you do trip out of the door, you gonna be going out of it anyway :) __________________ BOOM Headshot
  7. No real starting season unless you are stuck on jumping in the UK (in which case you will be waiting till about april/may). Worth looking round mind as its MUCH cheaper to learn abroad, thats why I start AFF in florida on tuesday, damn that sounds good __________________ BOOM Headshot
  8. But its non alcoholic, why not just have..... a coffee? __________________ BOOM Headshot
  9. Surely beer can be paid for on the plastic? __________________ BOOM Headshot
  10. If its your first instructorless jump thats beer, if its your first consol thats beer again (and he thinks he has money for a rig lol) __________________ BOOM Headshot
  11. Surely that only gets you out of drinking said beer not buying it!! __________________ BOOM Headshot
  12. Anyone else realise the humour in saying Cheep for a birdman jump? Just me then __________________ BOOM Headshot
  13. Sounds good cocker. Where you flying from? You jumped before? I am kinda in same boat flying to florida to do AFF in ouhh 10 days, the waiting is killing me. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  14. I am flying out to florida, great weather (nov to march), great price due to exchange rate, huge drop zone, great planes, very safety conscious, all english speaking etc. You could get a direct flight to orlando no probs, might be worth thinking about it might work out more cost effective. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  15. Bit (well a lot) of a noob really so ignore me if I am being a dumb ass, but when I was there what I though would have helped is something to write on when in the holding area. On a fair few occasions I had more than one instructor in the tunnel and then one was giving me advice when I was waiting, would have been much easier with a white board or something similar. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  16. Oh I know, I looked at symbiosis (as its UK based), but fact is I am gonna be in Z-Hills so I could have it properly measured, and the exchange rate is pretty decent so it would be a good deal. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  17. Yeah I read that first, was just after a few opinions really, people that bought early and regretted it with reasons why, people that bought early and were glad they did etc etc. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  18. Just out of interest why you limiting yourself to europe? __________________ BOOM Headshot
  19. Because its not the plastic bit it read from, its the metalic film behind it, if you can lap the scratch away (ie polish), then the film behind it is probably still fine. Try scratching a CDR on the top and see if works even with the underside perfect. __________________ BOOM Headshot

  21. Ok as you can see (jump number) complete newb. Just done some tunnel time in bedford so am thinking about nothing but jumping at the moment. Going to zhills in a couple of weeks to do AFF and hopefully get my A licence. Now I spotted that tonysuits is on site, would it be too early to buy one out there? Obviously you have to pick your discipline before choosing a suit and I will talk to my instructors. Just wondering really. __________________ BOOM Headshot
  22. ROFL, I saw the poll, voted, saw the results, and though "which anal git..." then I read your post. Honestly I use very few CD's most of my music is all mp3 now, I treat my DVD's like crap but if anyone else treats my DVD's like crap ouhhhhh __________________ BOOM Headshot
  23. Flying to florida in ouhhhh 13 days to do AFF at Z-Hills current rate is ~£700 for AFF, £600 for flights accomodation and that includes transfers to and flights back from minneapolis (have a friend up there). So thats £1300 without the consols, jumps are 21$ with $20 rig rental, so its very close to the £1500 you are getting in spain, but obviously it would be cheaper if you don't have friends in minneapolis. Hoping to get AFF and hopefully A in a week, might be pushing it a little, but you never know
  24. Need more detail really, but if you are running xp; Get into recovery console, usually by booting from an xp cd type "chkdsk /r /p" without the quotes, that will run checkdisk and fix any currupt files. Worked for me once or twice. __________________ BOOM Headshot
