  1. +1 That "militarization of the police" is even a topic of discussion among sane people is indicative that the US government has completely lost its way. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  2. Nice idea, but watch any documentary on the Rwanda genocide of 1994 and you'll see that the UN is a completely ineffective farce of an organization capable of enforcing nothing when push comes to shove. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  3. Par for the course. Obama has changed absolutely nothing. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  4. The US is in the World Cup, so Americans start paying attention and news outlets speak of "soccer fever gripping the country" and America becoming a "soccer nation." This also happens when the US Women's national team reaches the latter stages of a tournament. It's a well-established pattern since the US hosted the tournament in 1994. Then during the other 47 months between these big tournaments, it's back to your regularly scheduled program: American "soccer fans" stop caring and the sport disappears completely, because knowledge of and appreciation for the game is the exception rather than the rule. Only in America can you find views of of the game as ignorant as Anne Coulter's attention-whoring troll op-ed. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  5. Nobody said it doesn't happen in the NFL, it's just that in soccer it happens a LOT more frequently. I don't see anything that convinces me that isn't true. People who don't like soccer just use that as a cudgel to bash the game with, while ignoring so much similar behavior in football and (especially) basketball. It is true that different cultures have different feelings about this sort of "gamesmanship" From American football fans' perspectives, a kick on the leg doesn't amount to much when they're used to seeing players go down with heavy tackles. Soccer is in fact a dangerous sport that risks damage to lower limbs in any encounter or even with bad footing alone; people who play it know this well. Unfortunately some professional players milk that risk for advantage by feigning injury, and those who don't know the game so well mistake real take-downs and injuries for theatrics. It's easy for the lines to get blurred. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  6. Non-Americans don't like that bullshit either, and it's a matter of time until rules are put in place to neutralize/punish the behavior. Hopefully the imminent regime change at FIFA will expedite this. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  7. How? Remember this is football, not handegg. You can't freeze everyone in place and get the tape measure out. Paint yard lines on the field and take timeouts for review over commercial breaks. Allow at least five timeouts per team, per half. Introduce a 2-minute warning as well, with a commercial break before injury time at the end of the half. Increase the size of the goals by at least 100% to allow for higher scorelines. This would make the game far more entertaining. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  8. The dearth of shots on goal and the "limitation" of the offsides rule is not an uncommon complaint from Americans. I would chalk that up to what Americans are not used to seeing in sports and wanting this sport to conform to what entertains them -- even when the rest of the world seems to get it. And in light of the lack of knowledge of the game, I expect that many Americans will make silly references to WWII in regard to the upcoming USA v Germany match. On the other hand there is no one who likes the theatrics this sport; they have been a blight on the game for some time. I don't understand why (the very corrupt) FIFA doesn't institute video replays because fans have been calling for this for a long time now. Replays would be very useful to neutralize and possibly penalize theatrics, and overturn unfair calls. This would have helped in the opening Brasil-Croatia match last Thursday, when a penalty was unjustly awarded to Brasil. Goal-line technology has been instituted for this world cup, so hopefully video replays will follow in subsequent tournaments. 9. Of course not; it's all about posturing and looking like he has a retort. Another troll that people on this forum feed day in and day out. I like what Ron Paul had to say today: Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  10. When getting called out on your bullshit, just respond with more bullshit because true patriotic American men don't concern themselves with accuracy and facts -- that's for the liberal pansies. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  11. And like I mentioned earlier, we haven't sent soldiers over there to kill them, but we sure as HELL sent some over to save their ass. And because Americans (and by Americans, I mean you guys personally) saved the entire nation of Great Britain from the evil Germans, all British and the rest of the world should be in awe of Americans, on their knees licking the soles of your boots clean. USA #1! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  12. God bless 'Murica! Gun rafflers entice US voters Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  13. Our football teams are #1 too, don't forget that. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  14. Philip Morris is suing Uruguay for its strict anti-smoking laws in the World Bank’s International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes. from here: My opinion is that taxpayers picking up the bill for its own laws to pay to corporations opposing said laws sets a very dangerous precedent, eroding the concept of national sovereignty. What do you think? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  15. Some people simply do not recognize what is and isn't "good for the country." Be certain you understand what you mean by that phrase. A country, "of the people, by the people, for the people," "and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal" is not just for the benefit of a select few. That said, I hope Hillary doesn't get the nomination for the exact same reason I hope Jeb Bush doesn't get the nomination. Too much power held by too few people. I do not like the idea of the US becoming a de facto dual monarchy and simply switching families back and forth every four to eight years. A different name in the White House hasn't changed that one bit -- Obama is the same type of puppet as the Bushes and Clintons. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  16. Unbelievable. It's no wonder Americans have become the laughingstock of the world. And it happened way before January 2009. Do you think it might have begun around 1945? Or, maybe it was with the institution of the Marshall Plan. No, it happened around 2003 when people believed bullshit such as the link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11, and to paraphrase, when Americans started spouting, parroting and believing "It is useless to argue about the invasion of Iraq. SH needs to be removed." Around that time we lost our credibility. I agree that Obama hasn't done much to restore it. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

  18. My guess is that he's mimicking some of the right-wingers who rush to post based on an article they don't read well enough to make a bullshit point they're strongly predisposed to believing. I have little doubt of this. But didn't your mother tell you "two wrongs don't make a right?" I'd like to see such posts deleted as trolling. And mods should set the example. I'd like to see him ban himself; that would be amusing. In all seriousness though, I liked the post and found the sarcasm and playful mockery disruptive to the typical left/right monotony usually found here. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  19. My guess is that he's mimicking some of the right-wingers who rush to post based on an article they don't read well enough to make a bullshit point they're strongly predisposed to believing. Seems to have happened a few times in recent weeks, and the shit-show is hilarious to watch. 20. She looks like she used to be attractive until she got plastic surgery, lip injections and who knows what other "enhancements" or "improvements." It's bizarre what LA does to people and that people in that city consider this obvious alteration of one's looks attractive. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  21. This could be said for over half the stories in most major American news outlets these days. Quite sad. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
