Being able to think during freefall
marv0723 replied to Mockingbird's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am new to skydiving as well and experienced the same phenomena. I was, however, familiar with the sensation. It commonly occurs when you are placed, or place yourself in a stressful situation. There are a number of physiological changes that happen to your body in these instances to include visual and auditory exclusion (tunnel vision) among other things. Basically, your brain is trying to assimilate all this new data and your processor, to use a computer analogy, is a little slow writing to your hard drive. What youprobably have for memories of your Level I are more like snapshots of the dive. The only way you get over this is through a process known as stress innoculation. Simply stated, "KEEP JUMPING!". This will allow more of the experience to burn into your conscious memory giving you what would be more like streaming video. My references for these experiences have their roots in life and death encounters in the law enforcement field. Two different worlds, but many of the experiences dovetail nicely. Well, I finally managed to keep enough pennies rolled andfinished my AFF on June 24, doing Level 6 and 7. My f@#$t (I was told never to say the word given to the place before "Second") solo was great. Everyone told me to just chill on the way down, but I couldn't resist the urge to take another crack at the front loop. Speaking of "The Farm", I met a really cool guy from that DZ last weekend a the Skydive Atlanta Boogie, Bob Rader. Great guy. I got a good vibe from him and when I get off "student" status, I would like to go up there and meet some of the people. King Air- It will spoil you (Quickly to altitude). Cessna 182- Bring a book for the trip to 10,000 feet. It did allow more time to orient yourself on the ride up. Exit was pretty cool to experience, too. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

You are correct, Florida is usually not a bad idea. I feel like I SHOULD go before I do my Level 4, since that's the one most seem to have trouble with. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

Went on first jump this past weekend.

I am going the AFF route. I didn't see any benefit in the tandem thing. It would have to be more expensive to get to the same level. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com -
I would check the licensing requirements for your state. Some states issue different licenses for different cc ratings. I would try to find that threshhold and get the bike sized right within a range that would get you licensed to rise almost anything. That way, when you learn and start to enjoy it, you won't be standing in line to take another test. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

Yeah, I know what I'm supposed to do, it's just that I end up having so much fun while I'm up there, i don't seem to focus enough. I've considered the wind tunnels, but there isn't one very close to me. I haven't ruled them out, though. Of course, now my wife wants to go through AFF Level 1 this weekend, so I may be pinched on my jumps. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue just signed a smoking ban into state law for any building that is not designated as restricted to those under 18 years of age. The key words here are "state law" meaning a state-wide ban on smoking. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

I, too, have intitiated my own boycott of WalMart. It's not the merchandise from China that bothers me so much as the impact it has on the community and other businesses in the area. I still like to go to a Mom and Pop store where they know your name. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

Walt, Are you looking for illuminated sights? Trijicon sights are not bad and Meprolight has a pretty good offering. Glock is also making their own or having them made. They seem to be highly visible in all conditons. There is an argument to be made against illuminated sights, however. It is tactical in nature and you could argue the point in a number of ways. I would much rather have a GOOD light than illuminated sights. You can save some money on sights if you learn some low light shooting skills. With the folks at SkyDive Atlanta in Thomaston, GA. The owner of our company began falling from a perfectly good airplane about a year ago and another one of our instructors and I were talking about how we had always wanted to try it. During the conversation, neither of us could think of a good reason why we hadn't done it. Neither of us had much interest in the tandem thing, so we signed upfor the AFF program. My plan is not to propagandize about weapons or tactics. I have other fourms as an outlet for that. I will answer any questions or discuss it if someone wants to, or I will refer them to an appropriate forum. It is, after all, just a job. Of course, I have a passion for it and I also have found I like this skydiving thing pretty well, too. Marvin Walden Move Shoot, Inc.-Tactical Training Consultants Visit http://www.moveshoot.com

Hello everyone. Just did my AFF Level 1 this past weekend with a good friend of mine. Loved it and will be back this weekend for Level 2, maybe more depending on funding
