  1. If you use PD as an example, their Reserve manual states that the canopy should be sent for permeability testing after 40 repacks or 25 deployments (+/- 20 years). If I were rigging it for you, I would probably recommend the same thing. The canopy is probably fine, but 20 years and 40-ish repacks... Are reserves lower quality than mains? Many mains see 40 deployments and 40 re-packs inside of a single season and that isn't cause for concern. would 40 deployments on a reserve render it "worn out"? not argueing here, just asking.
  2. As an side note, if you really have only 100 jumps then your wing loadings are too high. Question.... Isn't it a riggers responsability to NOT pack a reserve for someone when it would be considered unsafe ie. 1.6 wingloading for someone with only 100 jumps? also, I'm still a rookie but I try to learn all I can about the equipment that I jump and I have attached my main to risers under close supervision, but I don't think even I could have made a mistake that bad unsupervised. I think the rigger and riglet should look for a new line of work. Bowling alley maybe?
  3. Today, I fly Americas largest FLAG PARACHUTE... How big is it? do you have pics?
  4. QuoteFlight Concepts International makes Flags from 500' to 7800' for us on Fastrax. Red is using the same material you would find in the Manta, good ole f-111 type nylon. WOW!, 7800' ?? I bet that looks awesome. Do you have any pics?
  5. I took Adderrall XR for a few years and it worked great! then all of a sudden it began causing severe headaches so the doc switched me to Stratterra. That makes me mellow but super super sleepy and did nothing to help me focus. In fact, the focus issue is even worse now.
  6. Why does green grass eventually die and turn brown, but green grass stains on the ass of your jumpsuit stays green FOREVER??
  7. I heard the same thing from a PD rep. He said it was called the "Storm" and the openings were incredibly soft. He said to keep an eye on the PD blog for future info.
  8. Good for you! I hope you enjoy your newfound hobby.
  9. I once ran across a website with custom pilot chutes. They had designs like skull and crossbones and stuff like that. Now I can't find it. Has anyone seen this site? Thanks for your help
  10. if you know how to read the "Source Code" for that web page, there is a clue there on the password. I did manage to figure out the password and I cannot imagine how there is any clue for that in the classified section. There is however a clue in the classified section that you will need to continue on after you've entered the right password.
  11. I figured it out, but it's bizarre as hell
  12. 200 jumps on an f-111 wouldn't be ragged out, would it? I only need it for a season.
  13. body weight bounces around between 235 and 245lb. depending on how many twinkies I had the week prior.
  14. I will be coming back off of an injury next month (broken foot) and I was considering getting a Manta since they seem to be reaosnably priced. My Sabre I landings are are kinda fast and the openings aren't great. I am 6' 245lb. Do the Manta's land soft? How do they open? I'm not interested in swooping or high performance flying. I'm not in a hurry to get to the ground and I enjoy a leisurely canopy flight. Thanks for your opinions.
  15. I'm over 40(just barely) and I have one. It's only there so I can share swap photos with my children in florida. It's like a living photo album complete with comments and messages. Our sites are updated regularly and we can direct other family members to our pages so they can share too. It's interesting though that since I started using the site a few months ago when my grandson was born I've been contacted by 4 old high school classmates that I hadn't heard from since graduation.
  16. Well, I'll just give em to Mr. Bartlett at our club meeting Fri.
  17. If you do, read Into thin Air first. then read Anatoli's book. Both were great. Maybe after you read them you'll understand more about why I thought Krakauers credibility wasn't quite up to snuff. In spite of that he wrote a GREAT book and it was hard to put down. I never read books twice and they eventually get tossed, so I'll give ya my copies if you like.
  18. Mis-report? He was in the death-zone! He was lucky to remember to put one foot in front of the other! He was convinced of the identity of that person for quite a while, however if I remember correctly (mind you it's been a while since I've read the book) he later corrected himself. As for Boukreev, let me just say he was the product of communist Russia where one's life's goal was to please and better your government, especially if you were a high profile athlete. You were supposed to do as you were told no matter how you got there. I know I lived it for 18 years. Ma'am, It's understandable to excuse someone for not thinking clearly while in the "Death Zone" and it's even understandable that their personal recollection of exactly how events unfolded while there would be clouded. I also understand that he later corrected himself however, it wasn't until he had already mis-reported the event in a national publication and after his account was challenged by others who were present that night. Sure, he felt terrible about making the mistake in the first place and even worse that he had already published it. But if he was wrong about that, could he have been wrong about some of Anatoli's actions as well? I know it doesn't always happen, but people who report the "news" and especially those of Krakauer's stature have a responsibility to get the facts right. I admire him for admitting his mistake but his credibility was still damaged.
  19. How do you know Boukreev's account is not unbiased? Just because he is a more experienced climber it doesn't make him more credible. Krakauer is a remarkable writer and I especially enjoyed "Into Thin Air" however, many of his comments about Anatoli were bordering personal attacks. Anatoli felt so strongly about what he considered slander that he wrote his own book so that he could tell the world his side. If you combine the allegations against Anatoli with the fact that Krakauer mis-reported the identity of one individual who walked off a cliff, then you have to question his credibility.
  20. I saw the movie on an airplane, just finished reading the book... All I can say is I'm really glad that idiot didn't take up Skydiving! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The book was good, I need to see the movie now. I agree with Squirell though, "Into Thin Air" was a spectacular read. Hard to put down. "Under the Banner of Heaven" was good too, but I still think the Everest account was his best work. I'd like to see Krakauer write about the whole D.B. Cooper thing. I bet he would do a great job
  21. Thanks for the tip skymamma! Palatka was great and the temp was a blazing 75 degrees. If you're up in the north country and jonesin for a jump, Florida is the place to be. Just bring plenty of beer to fight off heatstroke.
  22. It sounds like it may be to hot for shorts!
  23. I'm coming to Fla tomorrow. if it's over 50 I may wear a speedo! I have 6 inches of frozen snow in my yard that has been there a month now. I can't wait to see some warm weather and check out the Florida DZs. Any recommendations for Sat and Sun?
  24. I have a black and hot pink canopy with about 1000 jumps on it. The pink on the topside is visibly faded compared to the bottom, while the black is only slightly faded on the top compared to the bottom. The black seems to hold up better than pink after 10 years.
