So why don't you tell us?

I think he means MRVS http://www.skydivemrvs.com

Is the backlight just for the LED screen, or does the backlight light up the altimeter face as well (for night jumps)?

I'm curious... does the USPA make its annual budget available for review to its members? To a person that is not fully informed, it does seem curious that the organization has invested heavily in building new facilities for its employees while service to its supporting member base sometimes comes across as very lacking. What information is available for members that wish to see how their dollars are being used but yet are not able to travel to attend the regional/national meetings?

You can put as much time and money into triathlons as you want. If you're new to tri's and want to get into them, I'd suggest selecting a "sprint" distance one first. These are generally around .5 mile swim, 15 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. I've seen the whole spectrum of bikes being used... everything from first-timers using mountain bikes to $5000 custom tri bikes. http://www.trifind.com would be a great place to start... It has the most comprehensive listing of triathlon events and also contains links to other resources for training plans, nutrution strategies, etc... Feel free to PM me w/ any questions you have

Custom made harness/containers??? / need advice
brycew replied to Zydrius's topic in Gear and Rigging
Lately there's been a lot of discussion about falling out of "the hole" on looser fitting skydiving rigs. In the last month there was a tandem passenger fatality because of this very thing. I don't think its wise for manufacturers to believe that ill fitting harnesses are not a potential safety issue. -
I recently graduated off S/L progression and if AFF was available around here I probably would have elected for that option at the time. However looking back I'm glad that I did do S/L. From my unscientific observations it seems that students that went through S/L generally have better canopy control and landing skills than AFF students. I'm surprised at the number of posts I see where people talk about difficulties in standing up their landings even well after obtaining their A license. To date, I've stood up all of my landings (yes I know I don't have all that many jumps though) and know of other recent grads at my dropzone that have done the same. I think AFF dropzones could turn out students that are on equal footing with S/L dropzones for canopy control and landings if they made a point of emphasizing that part of the curriculum. But, I think the nature of the AFF training ends up putting more of an emphasis on the freefall portion of the jump.

Yes... please do

I'm flexible on dates, nothing specific in mind. Mainly I wanted to see if camps are going to be scheduled in the future. I've got family in Denver, so its worth me waiting and going there rather than going to Orlando or AZ. I'm looking at improving improving my belly flying and will be my first time in a tunnel. The Airspeed camps at Orlando & AZ are what I previously had my eyes on.
-
Do you guys have any plans (tentative or otherwise) to have tunnel camps any time in the first 1/2 of 2006? I'm wanting to book a camp soon, and CO would be the easiest place to get to for me....
-
Is there a targetted opening date set? On the website it says Dec. 2005. I'm going to be in Denver in late December and am hoping to book some tunnel time + coaching in... Wondering if this will be feasible or not. Thanks, Bryce

If you're serious about pursuing this and concerned about liability, I would suggest checking out the details of creating an LLC, or Sub-S corporation. Having one of these will normally help shield your personal assets (car, savings, etc) in case someone does come after you. I am not a lawyer and nothing I state should be considered legal advice...

Thanks for the advice all... I think I will go for using a balaclava under my protec until I have a chance to get to a place where I can try some helmets on. I don't really like the idea of shelling out $300 before knowing how the helmet will fit my head
-
I'm a jumper in Kansas which means that the weather is going to be very cold shortly. I'd like to jump through as much of the winter as possible which makes a full face helmet a needed item. My understanding is that different helmet brands fit different people better or worse depending on the shape of the particular head. With no dealers nearby, whats the most effective strategy for finding/buying an appropriate helmet? Suggestions? Thanks in advance

thanks for all the input... looking forward to the camp

I'm fresh off student status with an A license and I'm looking at investing in some tunnel time to boost my RW flying abilities. I'm in Kansas so travel will be required regardless of where I go. I'm thinking a structured, formal camp type training will give me the most benefit for time/money. I'm looking pretty hard at the Airspeed camps at Skyventure Orlando/AZ. Was wondering if there's other camps worth considering, or if I'd be better served by just finding some others to split tunnel & coach time with.

The thread on the RK eye injury got me thinking.... Any issues with having LASIK and sky diving? I'm looking to have LASIK done in the next few weeks. I asked the Dr. about it, he didn't seem to think there would be any issues, just said avoid any impact trauma to the eye. Has anyone heard any different... risks with jumping, or recommended wait period after surgery before jumping?

Acensky: That dive was in Roatan... Bay Islands of Honduras. Freefal: You must be doing your checkout dives at Table Rock Lake? My checkout dives were a bit south of there at Beaver Lake, AR. You'll do fine... The checkout dives are just like all the drills you did in the pool. The only change is that you're doing it in murky water. Just like in freefall, the first couple dives are a bit nerve-wracking, but you'll slowly learn to relax more and more underwater

This thread would have been much more educational with pictures...

Was wondering if there's any correlation between the size of a canopy and how fast it opens? I'm currently on student status and normally jump 288 mains. A couple of my jumps I've jumped with 210's and noticed those openings felt a bit harder. Do smaller canopies tend to open faster (and thus harder)? Just curious.... thanks all

Shark dives rock.... Night dives do too... Here's a few pics from my favorite dive ever... I took the first 2 pics, I'm the diver in the 3rd pic

Taking your rig on mass transit
brycew replied to bisqit999's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm wondering how frequently they do an entire unpack and force the need for a reserve repack. Anybody hear of any of these cases? -
Main is a Precision Aerodynamics Falcon 215. Reserve is a Raven II. I weigh ~190, so canopy size is right on what I'm looking for. I think I will keep looking. Thanks for the insight...

I've started shopping for a first rig for when I come off student status. One option I'm looking at is a rig with a Jump Shack Racer Elite (DOM 1990) container. In doing some research it looks like there's some naysaying regarding that container mainly because its not particularly freefly friendly. I'm sure I won't be doing freefly stuff until well after 100+ jumps and probably my next rig, so I'm not sure that in itself is significant. Any other negative aspects to the Racer/Elite container. Is it a viable container for a first rig? The price is right, but if its not safe and/or I won't be happy with it to get me through my first hundredish jumps then I'll obviously look at other options. Thanks in advance all...
