I see, I'd think about removing the ring from the bridle personally. It seems a little redundant to me and I'd rather alter the bridle than the attachment point on the topskin of the canopy. My $0.02. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

Why not just remove the link from the bridle and larks-head it to the ring on the canopy? ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

I second the comments regarding the specialty aircraft. They should publish the dates they will be flying and whether they are truly confirmed or just a possibility. Having to stick around to find out if a plane may or may not be there is annoying esp when I could be up in Chicago partying or taking in the sites. This year, Carvair manifesting was kinda confusing at first, till they got it straight. Sikorsky was a no-show, PAC was a no-show, DC-3 showed up quite late (they should warn you to bring extra-powerful ear plugs for that!!!) as did a Bell helo that I didn't have time to jump unfortunately. Manifest did a great job, as did the load organizers, but if I wanted to spend a week jumping out of mostly Eloy's planes, I could have done it in Eloy without the boogie fee, humidity, and had a safer landing area. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

Don't do that! The last thing you want is for them to be loose(er), esp if you have a snag-tastic d-ring reserve handle. Having witnessed a headdown reserve deployment and the ensuing carnage (twice actually), I want that thing to be as snug as possible. Intentionally wearing out the velcro seems a little lame to me. That aside, I vote for one hand on each handle, like the system was designed for and pillows on both sides since I freefly mostly (and I suck) ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

Feds may ease airline security measures
hookncrater replied to hookncrater's topic in Speakers Corner
from MSN: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8917950/ The TSA memo proposes to minimize the number of passengers who must be patted down at checkpoints. It also recommends that certain categories of passengers be exempt from airport security screening, such as members of Congress, airline pilots, Cabinet members, state governors, federal judges, high-ranking military officers and people with top-secret security clearances. This would be sweet, I always thought it was lame to get the full cavity search since I have a top secret clearance. I mean I can do much more damage at work anyways. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it! -
Yes, and there are minor manufacturing differences between the two... if you do a seach beezy has listed the differences quite extensively. They are not identical canopies. Close, but not quite. Plus, Precision offers a 170 which HiPerUSA does not. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

...and that's why Precision rocks! ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

Sabre 2 openings and strategies for dealing with them
hookncrater replied to darrenspooner's topic in Gear and Rigging
Personally, the method I used to combat poor opening Sabre 2s is to quit jumping them. Sabre 2 = most overrated canopy, period. It flies and flares great, but every opening is a crap shoot. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it! -
I knew, as soon as I saw the pic it would take like 15 seconds before Safety Squirrel chimed in. If you think that's bad I'm sure I can find some pics from my friends doing x-brace crew docks so you can poo-poo those as well. sheesh lighten up. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

Sportbike rider/canopy pilot parallels
hookncrater replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Yes, that is ridiculous. If you are driving down the highway, 95% of the time you will be in either one of your top two gears. There are no production motorcycles that can power wheelie in 5th or 6th gear without heavy mods. Unless you are driving around in a low gear with the engine already in the peak of the powerband, you aren't going to be able to loft the front wheel off the ground, and even if you were, I'd categorize that as intentional. Go ahead and try it all you want, but I'm betting that 90% of the motorcycles or more won't do anything more than unload the front suspension a bit in gears 4-6 and perhaps cause some headshake if you have it healed over. Plus, with experience you will learn to shift more of your body weight over the front of the bike during a corner exit or rapid throttle change which keeps the front wheel firmly planted. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it! -

Sportbike rider/canopy pilot parallels
hookncrater replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
It's really just a philosophical difference, I don't think it's a big deal to go slightly bigger, but others do apparently since they are so quick to jump on other people's choices and label them wrong or stupid. Ever notice on the road how everyone who drives faster than you is crazy and everyone that drives slower is an idiot. It's all about perception. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it! -
I have never had a problem with my contacts... I wear FlexZ goggles or Gatorz depending on the jump. Maybe you are just not blinking enough to keep them moist since you are stressed during the jump. Put in a couple drops of rewetting solution before you head to the plane. I do keep my goggles very tight but my Gatorz allow a lot of air in and I still never have a problem. My $0.02. ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it!

Sportbike rider/canopy pilot parallels
hookncrater replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
I don't disagree, however I think the sticking point of the discussion is really not to start small, but rather how small to start. (Or in the case of canopies, how big.) While some think you need to spend a couple of seasons on a Ninja 250 or Rebel, others (like me) think that an SV650 or an older CBR600 are okay. Both sides can show data that either method works, so it boils down to acceptable levels of risk and where your personal threshold is. Maybe mine's just higher for whatever reason or maybe I just think people should have the right to choose. Keep the rubber side down... ________________________________________________________________________________ when in doubt... hook it! -
