did many people die from these drugged up jumps? ive heard there were a lot more drugs in the sport back then, did that stop relatively quickly with a notable incident or did it just sort of die out?

hail cloud made me bleed once, was a tad painful

i take mine off in the air, after ive cleared airspace, pointed the direction i wanted to go, done a control check, collapsed slider etc, its the last thing i do as really its a comfort thing for me, and i wear a tight jumpsuit so under canopy things can get a little 'snug' if you know what i mean...

hey all, between christmas and new year i ordered my first rig with a pilot main and smart reserve, and sunshine factory said that it could take between 10 and 16 weeks for them to be delivered, how long have others taken to recieve theirs? was just wondering whether it would be closer to the 10 or 16wk mark... perhaps christmas isnt the best time of year to buy kit...?

Things every newbie sould know? Please help a bit.

theres also a s/l method (that i used) where the pin and the bag are attached to the s/l, and as the jumper leaves the aicraft the pin is pulled and the bag extracted from the container, with the bag coming away at linestretch, much like a freebag, the pin and bag are left attached to the a/c -
What colors did you choose for your canopy & why?

i love how the sun always feels the need to photoshop, sometimes even when real photographs are available but just dont have that dramatic kick!

What colors did you choose for your canopy & why?
Yossarian replied to mattyblast's topic in Gear and Rigging
just ordered mine in navy blue with cell 2 in white with a white slider. i chose this for a number of reasons, it looks pretty swish, i like blue, darker colours are the most visible in the sky (black being the most easy to see, all about contrast apparently, and also why alot of training aircraft are black) and i chose the white slider for some contrast when packing (on the advice of the rep) -
The coolest skydive I have ever seen
Yossarian replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
youve got to have some serious nerve to have confidence in that glide angle, he seemed to be very close to clipping the edges of some of those peaks. that looked seriously fun -
whats the exit speed from the jet?

thanks for the replies guys, im thinking Z-hills and renting a caravan at the moment, bunkhouses are fine but might get old after a month or two, and i definately cant afford a hotel type place, especially after ordering a rig

The day has finally come! Ive ordered a brand spanking new wings in black, red and white from sunshine factory, and a pilot 168 in navy blue with the 2nd cell in white, with a few nice little extras, for around £2400. I am, as can be a expected, a very happy chappy. not so happy, however, with the news that aerodyne are taking 10-16wks to deliver new canopies, but thats life i suppose. sorry for the completely useless post but im in an awesome mood, and yes, i will be consuming (and buying) vast quantities of ale to celebrate. life is sweet

if you've got an rsl then thats going to 'pull' it far quicker than you ever could anyway, the way i think of it it needs to be quick (for obvious reasons) but slow enough you dont cause an entanglement. is it strange i cant wait for my first cutaway?

where did u read that about the paras? i heard that was one of those rumours to spring from the new white paper, from the same rumour mill that proposed increasing funding of the 1st patrol boat squadron whilst scrapping all of its ships... last i heard (from a para, not the most reliable of sources on the paras (not being sarcastic)) they were actually increasing the number to be trained on ram-airs as precision for special forces support units becomes more in demand, like the Pathfinders etc.

what was wrong with the sabre 170 you cutaway? couldnt see any obvious malfunction

plus jumping low is far more fun :P i saw an old video once of a round with steel(?) cross bars on top of the canopy at the apex (one of those old pathay clips) that apparently caused the canopy to open much quicker, is anything like that still used by anyone? and how do you stop the oscillation ive seen on old ww2 drop videos?

i dont think ive ever hated a canopy but i definately preferred the navigator to the manta, but then the nav was much newer and slightly smaller (265-ish compared to manta 288), but then having the low experience of a student i dont think i was in such a position as to compare. all i know is when i pack student kit i prefer it to be small, f111 and old :-P

I'm looking to spend a month or more on a dz in florida around november time, money is the issue (as in i want to spend money on jumping and as little else as possible) and was wondering which dropzones have the best bunkhouses. by best i mean have showers, washing machine facilities and perhaps storage space for a months worth of clothes and gear. im not sure how much this is asking, but i was thinking the larger dropzones such as lake wales and deland might have some relatively modern facilities. does anyone have any experiences of bunkhouses in florida? california is also possible an option

could also be his intention isnt to jump it yet, my plan originally was to buy the rig i eventually wanted to settle on while i could afford it but not jump it until i was able. the other plan was to buy a rig with a smaller canopy and put a bigger one in it and either sell the original smaller one or keep it until i was ready to downsize

i take it 'saves' means the number of times hes packed a reserve thats been used?

Rule differences between US and UK
Yossarian replied to NottsTom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
we bought a rig in the US and it had a seal on it and no dzs (weve been to a few) had a problem with it. in fact, theres a rigger somewhere up north who uses a seal anyway i think (if u mean the red cotton with the little lead blob on it)
