  1. 8 feet was my best, 12 feet second best. I got bored and turned it into a base game . . . linestretch land
  2. DHC-2 Beaver = 8, or 9 on a cold day with someone sitting in someones lap, preferably without a full load of fuel. And you even have time to take a nice nap on the way to altitude :-D

    Fasting

If I go to bed hungry because I didn't eat that day, when I wake up I will not ever be hungry again. As soon as I eat something, though, hunger falls right back into place. Longest I've gone was probably 5 or 6 days after I got food poisoning somehow. Only thing I had was water, and had to struggle to keep it down or in. Besides sickness, I've gone 2 or 3 days several times before, especially during college, because I'd be so busy that I'd go to bed hungry like I mentioned earlier, then not eat the next day or two because I never got hungry and stayed so busy I didn't think about eating.
  4. I thought the temperature was great the whole time. I liked the tailgate on the Skyvan, the tunnel was neat to play in and even watch, looking out the window and seeing another Otter circling in formation with ours made for good pictures, we left a few hours too early for the balloon (some of our group got to go on it), the Bent Prop was a nice feature, and it is really FLAT there! I'm sure I'll visit Skydive Arizona again sometime in the future.
  5. I guess the fact that I was living in the dorm and "cooking" consisted of putting something in the microwave made the method I used a little easier. I did forget to mention I didn't count it if I ate fruits and vegtables, those were freebies.
  6. The thing that worked the best for me was just counting calories and MAKING SURE not to go over whatever you goal for the day is (1500, 2000, 2500, etc). I ate whatever I wanted, but didn't exceed the calories limit. I learned very quickly what kind of foods I could eat, stay below that limit, and not be hungry the rest of the day, and it was usually food thats good for me anyway. Sure you can eat 5 slices of cake and stay below the limit, but when that's all the food I would allow myself that day, and the hunger kicked in later, I learned to avoid eating stuff like that to excess. It worked ok, I dropped from 270-ish down to my present 215 lbs four years ago and have kept it off.
  7. As ex-hilerating as that sounds, I'd prefer to wait until summer. It was bad enough on the first jump when I wore my summer gloves and couldn't feel my fingers for 10 minutes. . .
  8. 0:4:3 Ground temperature was 20 F or so, temperature at 9500 was between 5 and 7 F all day. First weekend in a month without wind, so the DZ was pretty busy anyway. No pilot available on Sunday, so we only jumped Saturday.
  9. It's still early, but I haven't actually said any words yet today, and I've already been at work for an hour!

    Sabre2

I have about 60 jumps on a Sabre2 190 now, and still love every flight. It is forgiving of sloppy packing, might be very off heading but will still be soft, or if I spend the few extra minutes for a neat pack it will open soft and not turn 10 degrees. Very responsive, even this sized canopy responds well to harness inputs. I load at 1.35 and have no problem penetrating a headwind. Enormous amounts of flare on landing, even on zero wind days I might only take a step or two to stop, and that's usually not even required. I love this canopy!
  11. According to the USPA, the team from Greene County Sport Parachute Center won the National 4-way title in 1972.
  12. www.sidearmor.com I use their 1911 and Springfield XD IWB holster, they work great. They are tuckable if need be, hold the weapon very secure, and I can easily conceal my full size 1911 with only shorts and a T-shirt if need be. I carry pretty much every day, never had a problem with them. It's a little late now, but between Thanksgiving and Christmas they usually have about a 25% off sale, too. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
  13. Remi only shows up for the men in thongs. He's a sicko bastard. I really hope we work something better out. None of my old thongs fit very well, and I can't afford any new ones right now. . .
  14. Original weigh-in: 222 Last weigh-in: 221 Current weigh in: 221 Weight loss this week: 1 lbs Total weight loss: 1 lbs Not really going for much weight loss, but my arms and abs are sore and my pants are already fitting looser. Now if I can just get through a weekend of less than ideal weather at the DZ without too much beer or food, I'll be off to a great start!
  15. I've only had two skydiving dreams ever. The first one, my main opened and then split in half. I chopped it, and thats when I noticed one line was wrapped around my harness in a way that the main went no where. I fought for a minute then finally got it free and deployed my reserve, hitting a more or less fully inflated reserve 10 feet above the ground. In my dream, I remember thinking I was going to be in trouble for deploying my reserve so low. The second one was similar, except I threw my pilot chute, nothing happened, PC in tow, and I looked back and a squirrel had his grubby little claw through the closing loop and was laughing at me. So I fought with the squirrel a minute, got rid of him, and my main was finally fully open about the same height above the ground. They more or less opened in both cases just enough that I could walk away.
  16. The "running" in freefall bit is funny as hell no matter how many times I see or do it
  17. Complete BS. I'm not aggressive.
  18. I personally remember a temperature of -17 F one morning waiting for the bus to show up when I was a kid. No idea what the wind chill was. We will have record lows over the next few nights, its forecasted for -4 F tonight and -8 F or so tomorrow night. The coldest I've ever jumped it was a somewhere between 30 and 40 F, and right at 0 F at altitude (9,500'). As far as the airplanes go, I've read several stories written by bush pilots, and it seems once the temperature gets much below -40 or so, even if the oil and block and everything are pre-warmed airplanes just don't want to fly. The control surfaces freeze if they aren't moved, the engine has a hard time keeping itself warm enough to run, etc.

    Instructor pay?

StaticLine instructors at my home DZ make either 40 dollars per class or 15 dollars per head, whichever is more. I think then they get 3 or 4 dollars per student they toss, but I don't think most of the instructors ever report that. Honestly, most of the instructors at my home DZ do a lot of the instructing for the love of the sport, and it's pretty common for them to donate their services.

  21. You mean the Austin Powers look isn't in anymore? Shows how I've been keeping up with the latest trends
  22. Too bad I don't have any pictures from about four years ago when I started college. One of my goals was to drop some weight and start working out. I dropped the most of the weight (high of 270 down to about 220 now) mainly by watching what I eat, but never did start working out. Maybe this little contest will give me some motivation to tone the pale, hairy mass I call my body and give it some definition :-D
  23. Not yet created? Registration doesn't end until tonight, right?
  24. Just wanted to wish much willpower to everyone undertaking this challenge. Something like this is always easier with a good motivation, and someone else providing the motivation is the best kind.
  25. There is a video talking about the history of the skyhook at skydivingmovies.com, it shows video of two guys that cut away at around 100 feet testing the skyhook, and both survive no problem. One of the test jumpers even had time to unstow his brakes and flare. If I remember right, they had packed their reserves slider down like a base jump, but still damn impressive.
