  1. College jumper here in Orange, CA. We have a small facebook group with 5 jumpers in it... I think I'm the only one who's progressed past AFF1, however. I'd love to meet some folks to jump with once I'm out of AFF. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  2. What gets me is that if somebody was trying to hide a bomb and take it on a bus... it's not going to be in a skydiving container... about the most conspicuous bag ever. Yet we all know which bag will be searched first. Though I suppose you could think to hide something in a container just because of how weird it is... no way they'd search you... or something. I don't know. I guess I'd rather have safer transit and be inconvenienced every now and again. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  3. I'd recommend putting it inside of your gear bag. If questioned, inform them of the policy regarding air travel (it's completely fine per chapter section 17.2 of revision 4 of the security checkpoint manual) and request the same handling. There is a chance that they'll have you unpack the rig [particularly if you have a CYPRES... it'll seem weird to those who don't know what it is], so have a gear bag at all costs. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  4. The best advice I was given with my first jump is to relax. For some reason I wasn't nervous at all when I did jump [not just acting tough... i just wasn't nervous], but that seemed to make all the difference. After your exit count, take a deep breath and just keep going with it. You'll have more fun, be more stable and have more freefall time without duties if you DON'T rush. Rushing just makes you go unstable and the instructors have to fight to stay attached to you. Calm, deliberate movements seem to do the trick. Don't forget to have fun. About 15 seconds into the jump you'll go "holy crap, I just jumped out of a plane. This is incredible" and the rest is gold. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  5. Just making the obligatory "I'm new to skydiving" post. I made my first AFF jump yesterday and it couldn't have gone better. Skydiving is something I've wanted to get into for about 10 years now... I've just finally been able to afford it. The jump seemed to go well as far as I can tell. Freefall was stable, pull went fine, canopy was happy and I landed standing up. For some reason I wasn't even [noticeably] nervous before the jump... just excited. I'm doing AFF2 this coming Sunday... couldn't be happier. The jump was everything I could've wanted after a decade of anticipation and I can't get back to Perris fast enough. That's all here. So hey there! I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  6. The Sorcerer BASE reserve system [deploys in less than 150'] is often described as having "two reserves"... the first one and the second one. Gotta love it. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
