I have tried that. the only way she's coming up is if I'm the tandem master. And that's going to take a while... "Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement."

My mum has come for a visit. I haven't seen her for month and she only staying for a week. The problem is the weather has been absolutely gorgeous for the last five days and I'm stuck here entertaining my mother while the only thing I can think of is those two wasted WE because i won't be able to jump... RW sucks... Am I the only one out there thinking I'm sick or are we all ?? Paddy.

Hey cloud9, I think you're right. I can already imagine them going: "Whooo look at that one going in !!!". I don't know if any of you out there jump at Z-hills (florida), but TK hayes (the manager) was over here for a week and showed us his lovely downwind landing at 60 MPH in the pond (and then in the ground ) and the only thing we had to say was: Holy Sh*t !! I don't know if it is such a good Idea for advertising the sport... Really good for entertainment not for promotion though... that is of course if we really want to promote the sport. [question]. Paddy.

I voted for FS. Even though I mostly freefly, I think the rules of FS are not too tricky for the whuffos to understand. And it is afterall the main thing in skydiving (and quite impressive if done properly). Blade Running is more about canopy control. They would probably enjoy it a lot but I'm not sure it will do any good for the sport. my 2 cents...

Hey Slappie, I'll jump with you... According to this thread you are gonna be a lot safer in the air than on the ground... I don't know if we'll hit houston streets after the day but I don't mind going up there with you. Paddy.

Irish parachute club (you never know)... $230 for first static line course (includes membership for a year, insurance, training and first jump). $290 for a five jumps package. No AFF here. Then after that It would be $25 for a jump.

***when I am doing something that doesn't interest me very much, but I have to be there (like school) I have a hard time focusing [/qoute] And you are telling me that some guys actually invented a disease based on that and give kids medicine to cure it ?? That's just crazy. I think it's totally normal for somebody not to focus on something he finds boring... Everybody does that ! well I do anyway ! (oh yeah that explains why I skydive, Right ??). can't really describe what I did it in the first place, can't really say why I'm addicted to it now. I just want to agree with Nathan on the social side of skydiving. Over here in ireland we spend so much time looking at the clouds that more or less everybody knows each other. The nights in the pub are great fun. I don't know if skydivers are all sick but i know they're all happy. If doctors are trying to cure your happiness tell them to F@#$ Off... Paddy.

Congrats ! I remember my first (and only) one. Couldn't get the handle !! what we call a pussy mal -
Hey wingnut, let us know next time a few fine women are doing their first jump . But to be honnest, isn't that a bit sick ? Over here, we used to have to bucket for #100 but they stopped. Even the flies wouldn't go near what was in the bucket

Every jump is a story... Enjoy the ones to come. Congrats Nate.

same as the rest, logged in, try to access the control panel and I get a message saying incorrect password for username... wierd.

Jumping in ireland can be extreme. Winds can get really nasty. I have seen guys jumping in 25 mph winds (plus rain). Scary. I have only 150 jumps but the last thing you want to do is to get over confident. I'd say the risk is the same on every skydive. We do something that is dangerous enough so there is no point making it even more dangerous. Chill out

***it became a question of fly planes or jump out of them. Since I was short on cash I picked the latter.*** Nice One Josh ! I hadn't heard that one yet

Full Face Helmets for FreeFlyers
paddyFrenchman replied to paddyFrenchman's topic in Safety and Training
Hi all, I though I'd share this with you: First Lift of the day yesterday, Nobody on the dropzone except for me and a few friends. We decided to go on a fast three way (stand up). I haven't bought a helmet yet so I decided to borrow a full face that I had used many times before. the Jump was a lot of fun but at 4000ft My helmet just flew away. The speed we got was around 160 mph which is not too fast. The track was not really nice I got lucky in the sense that I spotted the helmet while under the canopy and manged to follow it down. (my dytter was in it). The Helmet was a factory diver (carbon fire). A few cracks here and there after landing and the dytter still in the pocket. Beside the fact that this jump is going to cost me an extra $200 to replace the helmet, I have to admit that it is not a nice feeling to lose your helmet on free fall. Too much drag ? Helmet not tighten enough ? I don't know. Anyway, I won't be jumping a full face for freeflying anymore. take care, Paddy. -
Geoff, I know that saying, I don't want to do it for the money. ( that would be pointless anyway). I just can't stand sitting in front of a computer 8 hours a day when I could be skydiving 8 hours (even more a day)... Blue ones, Paddy.
-
Hi all, Anybody out there making a living out of Skydiving ? (inctruction, camera, stunt, coaching...) How did you guys start? blue ones, Paddy.
-
Guys from hinton, Say hello to Ted Murphy for me if he's around at the WE. Himself and three others jumped into an islander last WE and came over to ireland. Shite Weather but a good laugh in the pub... I'll come over sooner or later...
-
Been in ireland too long: Guinness and Jameson (best Whiskey in the world)... I have to admit our manifester is a specialist when it comes to liquors. I like brandy too and would drink tequila like milk.
-
Chop Chop... If it can't fly straight get rid of it... Viking makes a good point. I remeber my training as well and I was told that if you have a problem under the canopy and you don't do anything about it, it WILL NOT get better. It's gonna get worst. I would have chopped it... Reserves do work... Paddy.

Hi all, I just thought I'd share this with you: Last week we had an accuracy competition on the DZ. All levels welcome to join in. A few of the guys had never tried it before and got briefed beforehand. Unfortunately, one of them was so focused on the target that he completely forgot about safety, landed in a quite peculiar way and broke his wrist. That is (for me) a stupid accident. Even though it was done in a relaxed manner, this accuracy meet wat still a competition. People are pushing the limits for the sake of prooving they are the best and they make mistakes. I took up skydiving because it was purely fun. I never understood the need for competition in skydiving. Stay Safe. Paddy.

It's a Pro-Dytter. I also heard that there are different possible settings for the volume. (maybe that's only on the Pro-Track). Any idea How often you should change the batteries ? Final Question : Anybody out there jumping without visual Alti ?? Question directed to FreeFlyers, I found it quite tricky to look at my alti in sit or stand up so I want to be able to rely (to a ceratin extent) on my Audible. Should I get a second one ? thanks, Paddy.
-
thanks all, that really helps. I just realise how important the combination Helemet - Audible is. Right now my Dytter is mounted in a pro-teck helmet and the wind can come in from everywhere. I'll try to tape it and see how it goes... Cheers, Paddy.
