When I started doing rotations greater than 360 degrees from above 1000 feet. There's no way you're going to fire that on a 270 under today's canopies - it does become more and more likely the more rotations you do though. I believe Airtek's current recommendation for a regular cypress is up to a 360 below 1000 feet (ie not multiple revolutions). They have someone who, IMO, is a pretty damn good video editor now. I really like a lot of Justins work (the new PD logos, the new colors, the website, and his general photography). Of course if he ever reads this I'll never hear the end of it Blues, Ian To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer

While I'd like to see everyone (men and woman) compete together, I am in total support of anything that will bring more woman into swooping. Being that you want to hold this in FL I'm sure you can find far better coaches than I, but I'll offer up my services as a donation if you're interested in having someone debrief competitors. It's a perfectly reasonable question. One I'd ask of any jumper doing the same thing under an unfamiliar wing/size regardless of jump #'s. Blues, Ian To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer -
I've seen the newsreel. You can probably find it on the internet somewhere, although I'm sure people will scream doctored anyway. To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer

I agree. I find relaxing in the harness and 'going with the flow' produces far more stable and predictable openings. I've had a few times where I've needed to haul on a riser but they're rare, and generally when I do it's cause I did something else to screw the opening up. Alternatively, if he likes dumping in place so much and your cameraman likes to track - plan for him to dump in place instead of the cameraman. There should be plenty of sky for 3 people, with 2 tracking in opposite directions if he takes the 'camera role' at pull time. edit: And for all the 'pull the silver' or 'violent reaction' folks out there - do people a favor and stay off teams if that's how you deal with your teammates. Well, it's definitely a matter of opinion so I can only speak for myself. I don't feel that there's any loss in flying a xbraced at that loading by any means but the tradeoffs are that it feels sluggish and isn't nearly as much fun to fly (my opinion). That combined with the performance increase being relatively minor, I found the KA a far more enjoyable wing at lighter loadings. Besides that, the issue is far more of a price one where the benefits dont outweigh the costs (but I know you asked outside of price consideration). Besides price, there isn't really a huge difference either way IMO. Just preference. about 400-500. The major problem with Spectra is that it enables poor gear maintenance. It should be switched at least as often as the HMA. Blues, Ian To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer

Not necessarily. IMO there are multiple factors to consider - size/wingloading and price being some of the major factors (but not limited to). For example, there's little point in buying a velo and loading it at 1.8, but that's an area the KA is going to shine in. As the pilots loadings get more and more aggressive then a velo would make more sense. Of course there are pilots who load KA's extremely high (Vladi) and love them that way. I found the KA a boatload of fun to fly at 1.9 (KA 107), a velocity of similar size felt like a dog (103 Velo) at that loading and I'd pick the KA over it any day of the week. On the flip side I far preferred the Velo 90 as opposed to the KA 89. It's not cut and dry, sure, but I hope it helps somewhat. edit: I looked at your profile and loading of the ST 107. Based on that and the KA size you mentioned, I believe you made the right choice in a KA.
