What does it mean to win the "War on Terror"?
jazzjumper replied to narcimund's topic in Speakers Corner
It wasn't. Are you suggesting that since it wasn't declared by the Senate that a state of war doesn't exist, therefore we can't call it that? You have obviously never seen combat, or you're just trying to make a point. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! -
What does it mean to win the "War on Terror"?
jazzjumper replied to narcimund's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the recent comments by the President (taken out of context by the media) show how this is a difficult concept (winning the war on terror) to comprehend. Since there isn't a typical nation state, geographically bound with a single recognized leader or body of leaders, it's hard to define victory. In my hardened military heart, winning this particular war would mean the total destruction of the terrorists, as well as the downfall of their financial and state-sponsored support. Basically, we will have to hunt them all down and kill them all. As awful as that sounds, until we can be certain that they are no longer a continental threat, and a threat to our interests abroad, we will continue to hunt them down. We live in a different world since 9-11. The enemy has shown they will attack civilians without military provocation, ignoring all the conventions agreed to in Geneva. We can either allow them to continue to do it or fight. In a nutshell, we'll win when they are all dead, or when we have reduced then to such that they are no longer a threat to us. We didn't start this, but we will finish it. r/Jamie No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! -

Saddam Hussein and Bush? Saddam and the Taliban...we are a federal republic and Bush was elected. Who have registered to vote democratically for anyone they choose to. No, those are prisons for war criminals (as opposed to prisoners of war.) Read the Geneva Convention. These are un-uniformed combatants and not subject to the Convetion. However, some US soldiers ands and contractors have committed crimes and are being punished for it. That is what we do in America...handle it ourselves. When people "threaten" the President, yes the FBI does get involved. It's against the law to threaten the President in the US. You can say what you want, but the limit is a threat. Neither Bush nor his "oil friends" are killing anyone. The US military is doing that (and I'm a part of it) and it's called war and occupation after the fact. You see, here in the US we aren't going to bend over and cow-tow to terrorists like your Socialist Government does. Sounds like you read a lot of left-wing media. So you mean to tell me that having a ruthless dictator in power that murdered more than 300,000 of his own people in the last 10 years (we found the mass graves) is somehow comparable to what President Bush has done by liberating the country? We aren't feeding people to lions (one of his sons did that and there is video) or putting then in wood shippers (more video). We haven't buried women and childern in mass graves, nor have we sent women back to their husbands in bags dismembered. Exactly which of those actions of Saddam are we repeating? Yes he did, but does that mean his facts are in error? He hit the Dems in the kisser, straight with the facts. Kerry is in such trouble. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Okay, nothing to sweat...it's easy stuff. Just ask the question. It's an easy procedure (5 minutes) and harmless, but helpful. No need to worry. Call your DDS/DMD, he/she will be able to help you out in a jiffy. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Angi, I would ask the doc/dentist to place eugenol soaked gauze in there. That usually helps the dry socket and relieves the pain (pretty much instantly.) They can do that ever day or so and you'll be good until good clots form. Hopefully you are avoiding drinking things through straws and such as well. Well, I lived in Texas all my life, until I joined the military, and have maintained my residency status there. I vote in every election as well, but I wasn't privy to the local news during his terms as govenor. However, having action people follow up on your plans is exactly what being a leader is all about. Are you suggesting that Bush simply states things on the fly in speeches that his staff has to make come true after the fact? I'm hard pressed to believe that. However, being in the military, I have had commander's that announced we (meaning me) were heading a certain direction and had never asked me if it was even possible. Still, it's obvious who each of us supports out here. The Presidency (as with all leadership roles) isn't about "doing" as much as it is about leading and inspiring others to do. To that end, I believe he has lead those who are willing to follow pretty well. Frankly to me, this election is about a war-time President. If 9-11 hadn't happened, this election would be about other issues.... but then again, the administration would be focussed on other issues as well. No one put Bush forward except Bush. He was lambasted and thought ill of right up until he started winning primaries. It's like the Democrats don't act that way when they are in power. Clinton annoited Gore and he was the Pres... Every incumbent President does. It's not like that is an exclusively Republican thing. Why is it that Democratics insist that Bush's handlers are responsible for everything he does? Have you met the man? Do you know how his inner circle operates? Are you privy to the respect he gets from his inner circle? I just don't buy in to the premise that this guy isn't running his own presidency (as much as any other modern President has.) No problem....his vote doesn't count either. Choice is a cool thing. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Dang...too bad the video still isn't posted. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! -
Yes, I'm quite familiar with it. My g/f is a permanent resident who will be applying shortly. Are you a permanent resident yet? If not, why not? Get your company to sponsor you. Hell, pay the fee yourself if you really want to be a citizen. Rather than bitch about the people running the process (like so many Americans do), just go out and do it. Yeah it's a pain, yes it takes time, yes, you must deal with the INS feather merchants. But to say you aren't applying it's because the INS are a bunch of assholes, don't hate the player, hate the game. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

You can fix that...apply for citizenship when you are eligible. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Well, yeah, if it were McCain, Gore, or Kerry, McCain would win in a landslide (today, not in 2000). However, if McCain could beat Bush, he would have the nomination. Okay, but McCain won't get the Republican node in 08. He knows the republican base (necessary to his election) wouldn't show. Cheney probably won't run in 08 due to his health. Frankly, McCain will probably not be a factor in the next campaign. George Bush will win in Nov, and whomever he annoints will get the Republican node in 2008. It's the way politics are done in the US. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Cool, then I stand corrected. Still, he is great to watch in freefall. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! -
Brilliant? You don't follow John McCain much do you? He's okay, but not much of a straight party guy. As far as all us Republicans are idiots for not supporting him? So, you'd rather have Gore or Kerry as President? That is what would happen. Oh yeah, but you're a Canadian. Sorry, you vote doesn't count. Actually, I think I'm the only one flying Sponge Bob so far. I have a Patrick on order as well...but yeah, just dock (gently) of Bob, and all is good. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! -

What does it mean to win the "War on Terror"?

Quantifiable? How about two less dictatorships. How about 10 million people in Afghanistan who have registered to vote? How about any citizen in Iraq being able to say anything they want about the US government, occupation forces, or any person of power in Iraq (with maybe the exception of Al Sadr, and we're working that) without serious fear of personal harm? It's better than allowing Saddam to run wild with his sons, killing and torturing at will. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! -

Hey Cliff, I did hear it. Frankly, I think the Prez did the right thing by responding to a letter with a letter. Any President is busy, and can't be expected to cow-tow to anyone waving an envelop...even Max. As far as his comments about an attack on one vet as being an attack on them all, I defy anyone to provide proof that GW Bush has said or written anything disparaging about Kerry's service record. I don't think they will find it. The standard is double, Kerry will neither be pressured to apologize nor apologize (except for letting the dems down in Nov.) Well, his story is one way, and the 7 guys who were with him have a different version. His states it was dropped by someone in his crew, and he tried to pick it up not knowing the pin had been pulled. The guys with him say he was being a tough guy (he'd done it before.) Playing with a frag, pulling the pin, putting it back in, scaring the new guys. I guess it depends on who you believe. But the real question is would these guys need to lie? The story came out years ago...shortly after it happened (my dad knew Max, and relayed the story to me about 10 years ago.) No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

I've been using Studio 7 for about a year without much problem. All the sudden, I can't get any sound from CD music or sound effects. I can hear the Video fine. I've checked the volumn controls and they are okay. Any clue? I know it must be something stupid. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Hey, don't put Max Cleland and John McCain in the same boat. John McCain is a multiterm senator, was a POW, a true man of honor, and rarely if ever used his service as a venue to personal agrandizement. Now, Max Cleland on the other hand is a bitter man. Sure, he's a triple amputee and a one term senator looking to position himself on the American media stage. I think I would take him a bit more seriously if he hadn't caused his own wounds in Vietnam by playing around with a fragmentation grenade. Now say what you will about his service, but that jackass injured himself and is trying to profit from it now. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Typical liberal...can't stay on target or on subject for one second. You stated... I said it could be, but I doubt it because of his history. His history with women is a fact. Keep swinging...even a stopped clock is right twice a day. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

I was thinking along the lines of access to the power machine of the US government. She got used to that in her first marriage to a Republican Senator. People in big business are usually there for a good reason. They aren't necessarily stupid. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!
