Ever been selected for US District Court jury service?
Sopheavy replied to Sopheavy's topic in Speakers Corner
I know this is pretty normal but I've never received it before except for the usual jury duty. I just received a survey from the US District Court and it is a survey to fill out and return in 10 days or I will be summoned and fill out in the office there. My name was randomly selected and since I am a student I want to be exempt. I called them up and they said that students are not exempt and once they get all of the surveys, they will draw names and it can be anywhere from 1-4 years before actually being selected for jury service for US District Court. So, anyone received this before and served? ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Hey Channman, I'm doing great! How about you? I haven't been to any functions lately... Thanks to everyone for the tips, advices, questions, and comments. I am taking notes! Skyjames, Well, somehow it turned from being a Jane Goodall discussion....to Jane and photography too which I don't mind.

Quote Incidentally, who's writing the article? Given the opportunity, I like to see at least a draft of the article to get a feel for what sort of pics will best compliment it. reply] I work directly for the art and social editor so she does the write ups that I cover. Sometimes there's no write up but just pictures and names. You've got a nice camera, 85mm, pretty sweet. I have a nikon n90s, old camera. But I love my SB800 AF flash. Do you guys use the stroboframes brackets? I have the press t and I love that thing. It does wonders for me. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. God bless! :)

I normally read cookbooks when I'm hungry especially in high school when I was starving after lunch lol....it helped me cope until I got home. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Okay...it's almost 4AM and I have to get up by 9AM to teach Sunday school...but I'm still up posting!!!...well, I'm having an insomnia moment...here's what's on my nightstand. My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers Anne of Green Gables by L.Montgomery that's just a small list...I have tons more in the corner of my room I plan on reading....one being Tristram Shandy!!!! If I like it, I can read it in one sitting ((Gone with the Wind (Margaret Mitchell) and Main Street (Sinclair Lewis)) was read in 24 hours straight). if I don't, it's never going to see daylight. However, I can't read Hemmingway in one sitting, his stories need a lot of digesting. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Thanks 1010 for your suggestions which are very good. I normally use 400 Kodak Clear Definition color when shooting. I will probably use 800 I guess. I normally use 800 for concerts. This is funny but I've never tried anything above an 800 but I need to one day. I really have no idea how the setting's going to be like. I have two filters that I use but mainly incandescent but I also hate messing with stuff like this when a flash is so much easier and plus it's fast. And what's even crazier if...I don't use photoshop mainly because I don't know how to use it and I don't have it. The magazine company I take pics for are strange....they prefer me to use film and I drop it off at the photo lab they have an account with. then they then take the pics and get their graphic artists etc and photoshop it if need be...strange why they don't like digitals in this modern world and they are a fashion magazine!!!! Thanks though! I will have to talk to you about film more later. Especially tungsten. I'm trying to test it out but right now it's sitting in the fridge for the longest. Also, I was cleaning out my closet the other day and noticed a box of TMAX 400 blk and white that's never been opened!!!!!!!!! I looked at the expiration date and it expiredd a year ago. 100 feet of film down the drain. might use it for fun shooting. have you used expired tmax before? ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. DeLay Is Charged With Criminal Conspiracy in Texas
Sopheavy replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
I live only 1 minute shy of DeLay's district. Anyway, since so many people hate Bush, I just want to say....it's not easy being president..... Off topic, since Chris mentioned Clinton, my friend used to work to Hillary directly. He was a lawyer for oil/environmental stuff when Clinton was governor. He mentioned that Clinton sure was a nice guy but he was always cheating on Hillary while governor, old news. He told me that Hillary was a lot smarter than her husband which I agree. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. I'm actually very excited to meet her because this is a once in a life time opportunity. It's an intimate and small event at some rich folks house. I believe it is not open to the public and there will be a small group discussion too with her. My editor told me it is a very important event and I'm going alone which stinks! Actually,I am well aware of Dr. Goodall's research for a while but I wouldn't say I am an expert on her. Yes, every photo assignment I go to, I always research it first. I do care what she thinks about the camera flash. I'm not going to be rude but I will see and try to talk to her or her publicist about it. I've been to a lot of art exhibitions and they always tell me I can't use a flash but when I get there, I talk to the owners and explain the situation to them and they are undersstanding most of the time. I'm not planning to use the flash when she's lecturing but I would like to have a good posed shot of her and several other important people. Actually my editor is the one that's upset that a flash is not allowed and she told me to figure something out because she doesn't see any point in me going if I can't take good shots since it's going to be at night outside, duh. Afterall, the person hosting Jane personally called my editor and I was chosen to cover it. And also, I always make sure to get permission first. Fallrate, you brought up a good point. I am going to ask her why she doesn't like flash photography. Maybe she meant she doesn't like it when there's flashes when she's lecturing or showing a demonstration and I don't use flashes on those. I like what you said Chris about Sun Tzu's views. I'm always having to think twice before I say something on a lot of stuff while going to alot of events especially when a lot of people I have to associate with thinks religion is stupid and my editor believes in UFOs... One thing I find very amusing about some of the events I go to since I work for a fashion magazine is, watching people interact especially the socialites, sometimes I have to keep myself from laughing. And ahh yes, there's always good food and lots and lots of wine and champagne. I had a 3K bottle of champange the other week while hopping around town in a limo as part of my photo assignment to take pictures of these people and I rarellllllly drink but I had to try that! ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Has anyone heard of Jane Goodall? "She is the world's foremost authority on chimpanzees." Well, my editor just informed me that my photo assignment in a couple of weeks is going to be taking pictures of her during an event. I don't think it's a public event because it's at someone's house. But there's a problem, I can't use flash because her publicist told us that she hates flash. And it's going to be outside at night when she gives her lecture. I think that is a big bummer for me. Maybe I'll use it anyway and to heck with it if she gets mad. So does anyone have any questions you want me to ask her? I'm sure everyone there believes in evolution other than me which is usually the case of a lot of people I take pictures of. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Which is more dangerous: Rock Climbing or Skydiving?
Sopheavy replied to lewmonst's topic in The Bonfire
I guess it all depends on each person. My friend is a very experienced rock climber for the longest and he refuses to go skydiving because its scares the heck out of him. I've never been rock climbing before. The closest thing I ever did to that was hiking up to the summit of a mountain in Nevada. It took all of the energy of out me though. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Southwest/Sugarland reporting in too….. No damages except for a few broken branches. Thursday early morning around 6ish my family and I packed up and drove to the Woodlands to stay with some relatives. Spent 7 hours on the road and that was taking all the shortcuts and backroads!!!!!!!!!!! My poor brother and his girlfriend who didn’t plan on evacuvating did but spent over 24 hours on the road to College Station. He has 5 dogs (two do not get along with each other) and 2 cats…..him and his silly girlfriend thought it was fun going through all of that, driving without a/c nonstop in bottle neck traffic and running out of gas. Well anyway, we came back home Saturday afternoon because our relatives we were staying with didn’t have electricity. I sure pigged out though because my aunt kept on cooking and cooking like crazy. It was far better than eating out at a restaurant those past couple of days. I actually had fun except for traffic and getting sad over all of the stuff at home that I thought I was going to lose while packing....and of course getting gas last Wednesday! ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. I'm still at work but not "working working" but busy packing up everything so that it can be transported to another location that is supposively going to withstand the hurricane better than the office where I'm at. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. I don't know yet if I am staying or leaving. I live about 45 minutes from Galveston and 30 minutes from Spaceland. If I do, I will probably stay with some famiy at the Woodlands but even that is not far. My best friend is moving to San Francisco, she's lucky because her plane is leaving at 5PM today. I feel like going to California. My brother is being stubborn. He is going to ride out the storm with his girlfriend, their four dogs, and two cats!!!! He's not even getting any food or water. He doesn't believe it's going to be so bad.....!!! I just want to slap him! ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. God bless! :)

I must be on crack. I thought he was on Fear Factor. I've watch Survivor only twice and never really liked it much. I favor Fear Factor. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. God bless! :)

Kewl!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been there for a while but last time I went, they were in the process of working on it with all of the equipment. I'll be back in a couple of weeks and can't wait to see it! ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. He needs to post here and spill the beans on Fear Factor...the waiting period, etc, etc. And how gross the stuff really is lol. I want to be on Fear Factor too but I heard the chances are as slim as winning the lottery. Maybe I'm thinking about the Amazing Race. I know a guy whose brother competed. Remeber the first one, the two models who were dating, the tall blond guy with the curly hair? That's him. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. God bless! :)

My favorite Bill Murray movie is Ground Hog Day, I think that's the correct title. I could watch it over and over again during the wee hours of the night because that's when the re runs come on. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Thanks for posting the story, it is very touching. I am grateful for all that I have in this life and hope that I can bless others who needs some blessing right now. I will be volunteering also at either the Astrodome or the other location too. I have a friend whose been at the Astrodome for 72 plus hours and he said the need is great. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. Cool pics! When there was an airshow in Texas, I took a ton of pics from the airshow last year of the Thunderbirds. I'm going to try to look through my mountains of pics. I think planes are sooo cool. My ex is a pilot, both planes and helicopters. He used to let me co-pilot the plane but it's only a Cesna not a military plane. ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm.
