I have a question about the rocks in these two pictures. In the big pile o dirt picture, is that somone standing at the pinnicle of the lower of the two fingers of rock or is it just a trick of the camera. I bet the view is fucking awsome from up there :) And obviously you have to climb to the top, so what do you do with all the climbing gear you use to get there? Do you jump with it or do you have someone to abseil back down with it after you jump? Or do you just freeclimb to the top? If you freeclimb it with a rig on your back, im not sure what commands more respect from me. The fact you jumped it or the fact you freeclimbed it...

Years ago I used to think that bungee jumping was where it was at, and there used to be a crane like the one in the picture sited permenently by Putney bridge at point pleasent that was owned or leased by the UK bungee club. It was just under 360 foot to the tip of the boom I believe if my memory serves me right. Its not there any more, but I often wonder these days if it was ever jumped when the bungee club had packed up for the night.

I dont know anything about rope jumping or base other than what Ive read, but I did use to work with cranes when I wa a bit younger. Some of the big permenant cranes that were used where I worked swayed qite a lot in even a light wind, and if there was a storm warning they were left set so that the top could rotate something like a weathervane to reduce stress on the structure during the storm. It always used to suprise me how easy they seemed to move. If not for the fact that I saw this due to my work I wouldnt know this. I could be wrong, but taking an educated guess, id think that the static weight of a body swinging on the end of a rope attatched to the tip of the gib would be enough to swing it round a suprising amount.

Im watching that one at the moment. There is a while left on the auction yet, but I might get lucky :)

Cool, Im glad hes still around :) Thanks for the replies. He should write 'Groundrush 2 - The next chapter'. Im pretty sure it would be a best seller :)

I did EXACTLY the same thing with a bottle of sauce named 'Who Dares Burns - extra extra hot edition'. Now a dark red sauce named Who Dares Burns Extra hot cant be that bad can it... Its strange how you think labels mean the opposite when you have had a drink or two.

Nans song You said when you'd die that you'd walk with me every day And I'd start to cry and say please don't talk that way With the blink of an eye the Lord came and asked you to leave You went to a better place but He stole you away from me And now she lives in heaven But I know they let her out To take care of me There's a strange kind of light Caressing me tonight Pray silence my fear she is near Bringing heaven down here I miss your love I miss your touch But I'm feeling you every day And I can almost hear you say 'You've come a long way baby' And now you live in heaven But I know they let you out To take care of me There's a strange kind of light In my bedroom tonight Pray silence my fear she is near Bring your heaven down here You taught me kings and queens While stroking my hair In my darkest hour I know you are there Kneeling down beside me Whispering my prayer Yes there's a strange kind of light Caressing me tonight Pray silence my fear She is near Bringing heaven down here The next time that we meet I will bow at her feet And say wasn't life sweet Then we'll prepare To take heaven down there

'Autumn leaves' by Eva Cassidy and 'Nans Song' by Robbie Williams. I chose these songs for my wifes funeral.

the world's funniest joke (according to the Brits)

Youll know right enough when you get one of those desperate 'touching cloth' moments :) -
I read this book a few years ago and am kicking myself that I dont still have the copy as Id like to read it again. Ill have to wait till a reasonable price copy pops up on ebay. What I was wondering though, does Simon jakeman still base jump or skydive ? I assume that hes not passed away. No specific reason for asking, just idle curiosity is all. :)

When I was in spain this summer a couple of people had backpacks that were javelin replicas. They told me they bought them direct from Javelin but got them thrown in as part of the deal at the same time as they bought new containers so werent sure how much they cost if bought as individual items. Hope that helps.

Its not unique, but it was first discovered in hops. There is a world of difference. Its part of a a group of chemicals called Xanthones. It was discovered over 10 years ago and its hardly news today. Drinking beer will give you NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER because you would need to drink somewhere in the region of 120 gallons per day to consume enough Xanthones to gain a positive effect of any kind. You can get some of the real facts here: http://www.organicashitaba.com/xanthohumol.html and here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=11038156&dopt=Abstract and here http://www.organicashitaba.com/beer.html Im sorry GrendelKhan, im not having a go at you personaly at all as you are just copying a link to a news page so this is directed more at them. Its a subject thats very very close to me and touting round false or misleading claims of 'new' finds like this can give dying people suffering from cancer false hope. People die because of false information like this being peddled. Its in the news so it must be true right? Sorry. Liike I say

I understand how you feel. I lost my wife not long ago. I lost my soulmate too. I understand what you mean about not being able to cry. I feel like that sometimes. Its not because you are used to it, but because you are not able to turn it on at will. Our natural defence is to block things out. For what its worth, the flip side is that it comes back and hits you when you least expect it and you cant turn it off at will either. When my wife died, someone told me that it will never go away or hurt less. It just gets easier to deal with. They were right. We all have angels we will meet again some day. My thoughts are with you my friend.

Pablo has got to be one of the nicest guys Ive met since Ive been skydiving. I learned an awful lot from him this summer :)

WindoesME is without a doubt the worst os microsoft has ever produced. Its buggy to say the least... It was designed to be used as a home system and was never meant to be used as a day to day desktop system in an office. Its USB support leaves something to be desired. Even Microsoft dont support it any longer. It was supposed to be Microsofts version of an idiot proof OS that the user could not tinker with making it perfect and unbreakable for the average home user. As someone who works with computers, its got to be the most infuriating unstable and least configurable os Ive ever come across. Your main problem before you even try to start is that it doesnt sound like you even know what it is you want to set up. What data is it you want to synch? Email? Documents? Folders? Calanders and Diaries? Do you use Outlook or another mail client such as Lotus? If its Outlook do you need the palms to synch with the users desktop inbox or the server inbox? If you use something other than Outlook, is it compatable with the Palm software. Because of the Palm OS, if you want to synch with Outlook Email, on some palm models you need to install a small mail program on the palm itself to act as a client to Outlook on the desktop. Otherwise it will synch only the calander and diary. Ipaqs are better in my humble opinion. If you want to synch documents, you need to install an application like 'Documents to Go' which integrates with the palm and the desktop OS and will update all copies with the latest edited version from the palm or the desktop. As someone said in the last post, not being funny or anything, but if you dont even know what an operating system is, the best advice anyone is going to give you is to get someone else to do it. Your in for a world of stress trying to get a palm to work with winME if you dont even know where to start. Probably not what you wanted to hear really.

There is at least two bikes smashed into the cliff face. Two in the video and probably at least a few others in getting the shots the film crew wanted. I think it very much depends on who you are. As a non celebrity, most people who attempted this and let the bike go in like that would be made some kind of example of if caught, and generate mostly bad press. However if Travis the 'All American Kid Hero celebrity' wants to do it the local authorities would be far more accommodating due to the amount of hard cash that he generates.

Thanks for posting that. Some nice footage there :) Some fantastic sunset shots. Was some of that filmed over Lillo in Spain? I recognised Mike right away, was Pablo in any of that footage too? Hard to regognise people some times on a low res video :)

THose are pretty cool :) Some more information. http://www.naturia.per.sg/buloh/verts/flying_tree_snake.htm Amazing little snakes. According to this, they dont fly as such, but arc and flatten thier bodies and make a sort of controlable parachute ride. I thought at first that its more akin to a flying squirel type of glide, but the snake is able to cover ap to 100 metres using its tail to control the glide, which is considerably more distance than a flying squirel. Shame the videos arent a little bigger. I could watch a lot more of them :)

I like to play on Partypoker, but so far Ive only ever played on the free tables for pretend money. And a good job too because I have to be THE worst poker player in the world and if it was real money Id be down about 50 grand by now

Introducing the Skyboard / skydiving glider
CBRnick replied to britboynz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So for all the $300,000 spent on design and research it still isnt as good as a good tracker, and has gets embarassed by a normal wingsuit? -
Holy shit. How big is that black widow? Here in the UK the biggest spiders we get have a body about the size of my fingernail, and nothing thats dangerous for a human. I know black widows can be deadly, but I thought they were quite small. The bigger one in that tank looks to be about the size of a tarantula with a body of about 2 inches. Is it really that big or is it just a trick of perspective?

Good point and taken on board, but I split it to another thread to ask a seroius question about the guy away from the thread bashing him in the hope that Id get an objective answer rather than just another flame. At least in my eyes that was a valid reason, but I dont have a problem if the thread is chopped and appended to the other thread if you feel thats where it should be. This much you are right, I agree with fully. For everyone else that answered, thanks for filling me in on the missing parts of the puzzle. I had missed the part about it being the third time, and didnt realise the way that he was using the broadcasts. I am now beginning to see why he is making himself unpopular. Hes hardly a good spokesman for the sport. Thanks for the replies :) On a side note, hes a good reminder for people like me, that I still have a lifetimes knowledge to absorb about canopy behavior and control in skydiving where I at least have a greater margin for error :)

Me too. Anyone know where I can get one ? It would have to be mail order for a UK delivery :)

I wish that I could go back in time to when there was happiness in my house. Before my wife suffered for years and died from cancer aged just 38. I wish I could take back all the rows and disagreements we ever had and have our time over again but thus time knowing how precious our time together really was. I wish that euthenasia was legal in the UK so that no one else on this earth has to be forced to go through so much pain and suffering in the last few months of thier life.

Wow, what a wave of hate for this guy is sweeping the board... I didnt think that personal attacks were allowed and would get you a ban, but there is obviously an exception in his case. Anyway, bearing in mind that I live in the UK and so dont get to see any of the TV broadcasts or hear the radio broadcasts, all I know about this man and what hes been involved in are the last two threads in this forum bearing his name. What on earth has he done to gather so much hate? From what I can gather, hes a base jumper who jumped off a tower on his birthday, had an accident that ended up being a fairly high profile rescue operation and then subsequently gave interviews on TV. HEs done a few stupid things on the TV as far as I can make out such as having certain jump location tattoo's which some people clearly dont like, and the jump location is now hot or unusable for a while. But that could happen to anyone who has an accident at a less than cosher location and the tattoos... well each to thier own. But does that really warrant people wishing him death and suffering and raining hatred on him? Ive listened to the recording of the 911 call from the link here, and I hear a very scared man talking to a half wit phone operator, and the amount of people mocking that call is suprising. I dont know how many other people have been in a situation like the one he was in, but I should imagine that anyone would be in a mental mess at that time. What exactly has he done for you all to hate him so much? Im guessing that hes said something in the TV interviews or am I missing something obvious?
