Have you tried those spandex capri length workout pant? They are WAY cheaper than bike shorts and can be found at any Sport Authority, Dicks Sporting Goods, or Academy. They are made with the dri fit material so no embarrassing crotch sweat marks after class. I work out wearing them and they are great! Like these: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4022205&cp=2367438.2367454.2791768.2791770.2806306 http://3ringnecklace.com/

This thread reminds me of a scene that I saw while watching "The Nanny" last night. Fran says to Mr. Sheffield, "You know that accent of yours? VERY ANNOYING!" http://3ringnecklace.com/

If a wind tunnel opened in the DC Metro Area would you use it?
airathanas replied to booyah's topic in The Bonfire
My sister lives there so that would be a good excuse to go and visit her! http://3ringnecklace.com/ -
When my tandem students ask about what to do for the landing, I say, "We will go over what to do for the landing when we are under the parachute. If there is no parachute, then we don't have to worry about the landing." http://3ringnecklace.com/

Landing patterns and defensive flying.
airathanas replied to jpforget's topic in Safety and Training
I don't know if someone asked this already because I didn't read every single word of all of the replies... What about if the landing area is longer than wide? That 75% is now a much smaller, but do you feel that same principle applies? Not opposing the idea of defensive flying; just asking the question that popped into my head after seeing the landing pattern attachment. http://3ringnecklace.com/ -

Try having kids you say?? Actually I believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So I'd rather not, thank you very much. I DO go to the DZ and hang out- because I prevent those kids from happening!! See how that works?? Oh, I guess not. Well, now you know. http://3ringnecklace.com/

Welcome to skydiving! I've been to Hawaii but I haven't jumped there. I heard there are a lot of high winds. Good luck on AFF. http://3ringnecklace.com/

Well, my entire life doesn't suck. But there are some things that I could do without: i.e. knee injury and possible surgery and missing the whole summer of skydiving. That certainly sucks. On the other hand, I've got a good job, great family, and I just met a great guy. So life doesn't suck entirely. http://3ringnecklace.com/

Best exercises for skydiving?
airathanas replied to Southern_Man's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I became a tandem instructor, I knew I had to increase my upper body strength. I do a lot of upper body work to be able to control and flare a SETS 400 by myself. Lat pulls, chest presses, push ups, tricep dips, and shoulder exercises should help. http://3ringnecklace.com/ -
Usually the students have the harnesses on over their clothes. This past weekend I had two students who showed up in shorts and there was no wind. I figured we would be sliding in on our butts and I didn't want their legs to get cut up. So I put them in jumpsuits. http://3ringnecklace.com/

The best way to learn this info is to show up at the DZ and ask the instructors there. http://3ringnecklace.com/

It sounds like you're referring to Elliot's Training and Trusting Mindset principles. The Training Mindset is used when we are first learning something. We put deliberate thought into what we are doing. We have a very active mind and we put conscious effort into thinking about what we are doing. The Trusting Mindset is characterized by a very clear mind, when we are sensing the environment and just reacting to it. It feels like a flow state when things are just "happening." Top elite performers are able to turn on 90% Trusting Mindset and 10% Training Mindset in periods of high pressure. But by practicing the Trusting Mindset, they are able to get there more often. People often resort back to the Training Mindset in situations of high pressure because they are so used to using it. Think of it this way: When we first started driving, we were in the Training Mindset. "How much pressure do I apply to the gas pedal? When do I start braking?" As we get better at diving, we then drive without thinking (Trusting Mindset). But whenever we see a cop in our rearview mirrors, we resort back to the Training Mindset. "Am I speeding? Did I do anything wrong?" The key is BALANCE between the two- they are each appropriate during certain times. The trick is knowing when to use what. http://3ringnecklace.com/
