Most Skydivers I have met are also SCUBA divers. You are required to swim in order to take the SCUBA class.

Prayers for skydivers and their families in Sullivan, Missouri
jojo69 replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
Prayers sent for those lost to us and their families. Special prayers to the the person left in the hospital. Prayers for their healing and for peace in their heart. It is tragic to lose those with you and it is also scary to be the one left behind. -

How Small Does a Raise Have to Be To Make You Laugh?
jojo69 replied to NWFlyer's topic in The Bonfire
I an a consultant for the nursing home business and the raises for the hourly employees are 1-5% each year. The salary staff get 2-6%. This is a basic standard and the only way to get a good raise is to quit and go to the place down the street. It is not unusual for the staff that has stayed past 3 years will be making less than the new hires. -
I am so unhappy I discovered Monroe too late and lost it too soon. I had a great time there and felt at home there. The people were more than freindly and excepting and always fun and funny. I will miss Lisa and wish her well.

I see your point about not getting pregnant. However, at the time I was young "60's & 70's" birth control for women was also new. Pregnant was the most common situation. Rhythem method = Mom. Pills were still experimental and were running at about 70-80% effective and they were not always available except in the "big city". Abusive relationships are not something that women or men get into by choice. They are something that develop over time. They are often wonderful relationships until the correct stressors are applied. The addition of more children are often the stressor. The younger people on this thread do not remember or realize the choices that were available to the older people when we were the young "in heat" crowd.

As I read this thread I realize that there is no one who admits to having an abortion. I was a teenager when abortion became legal. I and many of my friends were happy that this was an option. I admit that I have had an abortion and am grateful to those who fought for my right to do so. I have friends that drank laundry blueing to induce abortions. In the 60s and 70s there were no choices and women still go abortions. It was very dangerous and sometimes fatal. The fact that it was against the law did not stop them. It just made it more dangerous for all involved. People do not have to agree with my decisions or the decisions of others who have had to face this choice. They do not have to have an abortion. I recognize their right to their choice. They should recognize my right to mine.

I am sorry to hear about your sister. It is always scary to hear that someone you love has cancer. I send you and her healing wishes. I have no great words of advise. I can only advise you to be available for her. She will need to have a safe place to go to discuss all her fears. Do not ever be afraid to cry with her. Sharing the burden always makes it easier to carry. There are great things happening in the area of breast cancer. Hold to hope and keep positive.

Thank you for sharing this. People get all wrapped up in causes and sometimes forget that there are real people paying the price.

Proud to serve as part of the Nurse Corp. Signed up because I wanted to. When they call I go because I am needed.

JoJo has always been my nickname but the number has followed me for years. My first softball number, my number in line on graduation from high school and then is was my student number in college. I just couldn't seem to get away from it so I choose to keep it.

Gosh it was great to your pictures. I miss you all so much. I am jelous of your jump numbers. I am on 92 and heading for 100. I saw JR last week and just wish I could have stayed with you all.

I invited my husband to jump. He did two tandoms and loved them. He went through the AFF training and did his first jump. He hated it. He lost an instructor, could not understand the other and deployed at 10,000 feet. He had a nice ride but was upset to be alone (scared) and the instructor kept telling him (by radio) that he could not see him. He should "head for the drop zone". I think if he had had a good first jump I would have a jump buddy.

I went for training and had a very good coach, Jeff. He gave clear instructions and great feedback. I was not however impressed with some of the others. I did 4 jumps each Sunday for three weeks. During the first 8 jumps, at least one of the students did not have an altimeter. I felt that someone (the instructor) should have checked these students before getting on the plane and heading for altatude. I expected better for this drop zone.
