To cut a long story short I am a branch manager for a travel company and my area sales manager is on my back and is pressurising me about my shop sales. Last year sales were 20% above target but this year they are up on last year but are down on target.
I have been looking for a job for 8 months but haven't found anything suitable. I am not happy with the pressure being put on me. I have savings but can't really afford to be out of work for any length of time let alone accept the damage it would do to potential job prospects.
1) I could hang in there and see if sales turn a corner but realistically I feel that I have had enough and should be looking to move on so I don't think this is an option.
2) I am fed up so maybe I should resign now and just get rid of the pressure and stress I am under.
3) 10 out of 66 managers have left since Jan 05 with many being offered payouts to go. Some of these were in under performing branches whilst others lost their jobs as branch managers when separate branches were combined under a city managers role. These payouts have been confidential so apart from knowing that payments have been made I don't know how they came about or how much they have been worth.
4) Lastly as my area sales manager has told me to my face that I should look for another job so I believe that under British law I could take my employer to court and sue for constructive dismissal. This however at the moment would be his word against mine and could also be a costly course of action.
