I agree - it should feet and knees together, I tell them to be ready to PLF (especially when you have a light person and the wind is shifting) flare, flare, flare, and stand up. I believe if you continue to make them "fall down" its going to take them longer to stand them up. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

are they jumping rounds? what size is the canopy? How big is she. Doing a PLF is a requirement on the A license card. What I have found, if the student falls down on every jump - they build muscle memory to fall down. I have seen way too many student landings that should have been an easy stand up but the drop to 1 knee because they fell on everyone before that. If they did a tandem, they also have a tendency to lift their legs like they did for landing on their tandem. Everyone needs to know how to correctly do a PLF. Unless the JM thinks the likelihood of her getting hurt has increased (usually do to being height and weight disproportionate) she should be standing up or at least giving it a try. That's my 2 cents on that. Judy if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  3. It does identify you to other people as a skydiver - but very few people that don't jump know what it is. I don't wear mine when I jump. 200 jump rule? Never heard of it. Most of our AFF graduates usually buy one right after or sometimes before they graduate. I have a gold one I wear on a long necklace. The people I work with said it looks like a sperm. How many posts do I need to get off of newbie status? Judy W. If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room. Priceless

that was fabulous! Judy if your not living on the edge you're taking up to much room. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  5. This weekend. I was thinking the same. I got a call yesterday for someone wanting a demo for Friday into class B airspace. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  6. Thank you for the info. I keep getting these calls (I'm stuck answering the dz phone while everyone else is in Rantoul). Apparently there is some flying event in Memphis this weekend. 7. Anyone know where to find the smoke canisters that you jump with? Its actually not for a skydive but missing man formation. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  8. On a Seinfeld episode they used "your sooo good looking" instead of "god bless you". Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  9. I also got spammed and a virus from them. (yes my virus software is a little outdated at home). I called them and asked them to remove me from their list and they denied they ever send out e-mails like that. Then I had my husband call, he talked to someone else and was told they don't send e-mails. Hum... Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  10. Those that don't get it probably aren't going to respond. We don't have enough skydivers to discriminate against anyone. We had 2 lesbians come out to do tandems and they were in the hanger getting geared up holding hands, then kissed. I think every guy on the dz ran up to manifest to try to get on that load after they kissed. The tandem instructor was grinning from ear to ear the whole time. Minds are like parachutes, they only work when they are open. Judy PENISES!!
  11. Skydiving gave me the courage to leave my x and a happy place to go during the divorce process. I made my first jump on Sunday, July 21, 1996 and told him I was moving out on Tuesday July 23rd. He didn't care enough to come watch my first jump. He was also an unemployed alcoholic with a genius IQ. although he lacked common sense. 12. July 21, 1996, Skydive Baldwin (now Skydive Twin Cities). Did AFF for first jump. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

  14. The problem is the sue happy country we live in. We need to change the laws and how and why people can sue. Its not the maturity of the person. I'm sure we all know a 16 year old that is more mature than most adults. Lawsuits are out of control in this country and it needs to change. 15. __________________________________________________ He's pushing for the almighty dollar," said Murray, who now drives a truck. "He puts students up in unsafe conditions--jumping through solid and low layers of clouds, in high winds. You can't see what's below. There were times when jumpers went out at 13,000 feet and didn't see the ground until at 900 feet." Murray recalled a time several years ago when he and Nelson jumped in tandem with two students into heavy clouds and because of winds and poor visibility wound up more than 12 miles from the drop zone. "We hitchhiked back to the airport," Murray said. _____________________________________________ I don't understand if Terry Murray (one of the nasty ones on rec.dot) is a tandem master and had such a problem jumping through clouds, why didn't he just refuse? Did Roger force him and his student to put gear on, and push him out of the airplane? Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  16. I agree, DZ.com is light years ahead of rec.dot. I stopped reading rec.dot because I saw way too many people go off, really go off, on a new jumper for asking a question. Funny thing is, you meet some of those rec.dot people and confront them, they run and hide. Can we still talk about who is sleeping with who? Judy W. 17. That was a great boogie. I felt bad for the band though since everyone was in the FBO office watching people do stars. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  18. well, not in south dakota, southern MN. You must know him, Travis. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  19. yeah it is freakish. it does not hurt, at least not when I have done it but I have not done anything smaller than a 4 or 5 way. I feel kinda bad cause we showed it to this one guy and when we ran into him a year later he was walking around with 2 wires ready to go, asking people to come do stars with him. I don't know what else I can tell ya, except for you may want to try it once (don't volunteer to hold the wire) with some "experienced" people. Skydivers do stupid stuff to entertain ourselves especially on bad weather days and after sunset. Blue Skies and Third Eyes Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  20. get 2 wires or keys or something metal. (keys will melt sometimes) get your group of people in a circle. 2 different people each insert a wire into each side of an outlet. everyone holds hands, pierced places, or other body parts (girls like the thigh area - kinda like riding in skyvan). NEVER DO A SOLO. then you have the 3rd eye thing. That's when you touch someone in the middle of their forehead it sucks for the person being touched. The whole concept is bizarre and who and why it ever started, i don't know. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  21. I've done it. I wouldn't do anything smaller than a 4-way. I've seen several 2-way's done - not a good idea. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  22. You can launch just about anything from a kingair - really. Meekers, open accordian, closed accordian, canadian T. I would suggest you contact Kim Brandt from the 4-way team Nemesis. They used to jump from a kingair at Quantum Leap before they moved to Atlanta. I jumped with some of them and was really surprised what you can launch. Nemesis website is www.4way.org/nemesis
  23. pull the plug on the power then blame it on a coyote or other critter. Then get a serrated knife and cut up their cord and make it look like an animal chewed on it.
  24. The Tyson/Lewis Fight is this weekend in Memphis. Alot of celebrities are in town. Downtown is already out of control.
  25. its' about time. Being you have no ass and a fractured tail bone, i believe a pillow should fit in your jump suit or we can get one of those inflatable donut sitting things and figure out a way to attach it to you. Unless you really want to jump the 300.
