Ahh.... Stretch C-130's, now those are nice! The view on take-off from the cockpit isn't too shabby. Don't have to worry much about exit separation with their speed on jumprun either. Of course I haven't been in one with more than 13 people on board - I suppose it's possible to make even that plane feel crowded if you cram enough people into it.

I'll second both of those

Actually I would be really interested in that, but uhh from what I've been told nobody can actually pass that test for some time after their 6hrs of freefall. I may be wrong anyone have any information on the test. I know look at the SIMS, but Im a lazy shite. Depends on what you do with that 6 hours of freefall time. I had around 7 hours when I took the course and had no problems at all - don't think I would have had any problems at 5 or 6 (which as you mentioned is the minimum) hours either. I did have a bit of tunnel time, which helped, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary.

Velo's are 7-cells, as are Xaos 21's, and probably lots of others as well.

What is the correct way to make the word penis plural?
AllisonH replied to MrTool's topic in The Bonfire
Is it a bad thing to admit that I have made a single one plural? (well... we had to. It was part of the anatomy dissection. And none of the guys would) Haha!! We didn't actually have to do the slicing ourselves, but I do remember many of the guys in my A&P class turning a bit white when they realized one of the cadavers had a penis that had been made plural -
Hi Nathan and welcome to dz.com! Are you planning to do the Collegiate Nationals this winter at Spaceland? There will be lots of other apathetic college students from around the country there to hang out with, and there are special categories of competitions for those with less than 100-125 jumps.

Learn something new every day - I haven't been around long enough to know much about the older helmets

The shells are the same, sizing is determined by the liner, so just check their sizing chart. Not sure how easy it is to replace factory diver liners, but give SkySystems a call/e-mail.

Its going to suck if she has a reserve ride. No student toggles, no flare toggles, you're flying the "whole" canopy the entire time and the toggle pressure is higher then on even an EZ-384! The person I was originally referring to did 5 or so jumps with the I/E, but did not get her tandem rating. Good point though, and definitely something for everyone who thinks flaring tandems is difficult to keep in mind.
-
I'm 5'3" and can reach the drogue on some tandem rigs (like Micro Sigma), but not on all (not on regular Vector/Sigma rigs). Well, I can reach it with my finger tips, but not enough to grab/throw it. Had a friend go for her tandem rating last year. She's very strong for her size, not a girl I'd want to mess with, but she couldn't flare the canopy by herself. There are some tandem canopies she could flare, but without being able to land all of them there's no way she could get her rating. Not to say you can't do it - there are certainly some smaller females who have - but it will be a challenge, and you may learn that you can/prefer to only use certain types of tandem gear.

If you know you want to jump more, do either static line or AFF (both have pro's and cons, lots of threads here on that if you search, but do whichever one your local drozone offers that fits your schedule/budget/learning style). The recurrency rules are USPA recommendations. Depending on the dropzone they may be set in stone, or may be flexible by a few days depending on circumstances, but as a student it is a good idea to jump as frequently as you can. You will learn things more quickly, likely have to repeat fewer jumps, and probably be safer and more comfortable in the air.

Ooh, yeah, that would really suck!!

No, I didn't put that option on, because nobody is in zero debt - do you pay your utility bills by d/d? They're taken out of my checking account automatically each month, as is my DSL bill. Sure they are, but I'd still consider it a debt in regards to utility bills, unless you're in direct comms each month briefing the thiefs on your usage. Try changing to a different gas provider and see your final payment if you've not being doing so! They read the meter every other month, and they usually overestimate my usage. So one month I pay extra, then the next when they actually read it I owe less, or sometimes they end up owing me.

None. I rent an apartment, my car is paid for, I have no student loans, and no credit card debt.

First jump impressions - am I normal?
AllisonH replied to NotBond's topic in Introductions and Greets
I don't remember a whole lot about my first tandem, but I do remember sitting in back of the plane thinking "gee, I should be scared, I wonder why I'm not..." Even in the door, it was more surreal than scary. For me it's never been an adrenaline thing. I probably wouldn't have gone back and jumped if it weren't for a friend who wanted to take first jump class. I promised to take it with her, then after about my third or fourth jump I got hooked. Still not because of adrenaline, fear, or any of that (not to say there weren't some slightly scary parts here and there), but because the people I jumped with just made it seem like the thing to do -
No thanks, I use healthy fats for my main source of energy. My carbs can feed my brain. Other than that, especially athletic performance, fat is the way to go for performance. Unfortunately, your body has its own way of deciding when to use fats and when to use carbs. During light to moderate exercise, yes, you can get a substantial amount of energy from fat. However, during heavy exercise the body relies predominantly (and sometimes completely) on carbs for energy. With training you can shift the point at which you begin relying mainly on carbs to a slightly higher intensity, but you can't eliminate it entirely.

Vitamin Water has as much sugar as Gatorade.

Think of the USPA BSRs as minimum recommendations. Each dropzone is then free to institute its own more stringent regulations (though they should admit that these are their rules, not USPA's). Most places will not let you jump before 18, even though USPA leaves that option available to them. If you do a search though, you'll find several threads listing places that do allow 16 year olds to jump if you're willing to travel. Be aware though, your local DZ's age regulations are likely for all jumpers, not just students. Before you go off and get licensed elsewhere, talk to them and find out if you'll be able to jump when you get back.

Yep, did Raeford last year. Dropzones K-State Parachute Club - Wamego, KS Skydive Tecumseh - Tecumseh, MI Perris - Perris, CA Start Skydiving - Lebanon, OH Raeford - Raeford, NC Skydive Arizona - Eloy, AZ Skydive City - Z-Hills, FL Dublin Boogie - Dublin, GA WFFC - Rantoul, IL Chicagoland Skydiving - Hinckley, IL Skydive Chicago - Ottawa, IL Merillat Airport - Tecumseh, MI (we jump into this one often enough that I'm counting it as a dz) and a few non-dz type airports for demos Aircraft 182 (regular and widebody) Caravan (regular and grand) Otter King Air Beech 99 Pac 750 Allouette II Balloon Skyvan Casa C-130J So pretty much just all the usual suspects.

If you're buying something like a new jumpsuit or rig, it will be custom made, so there's nothing to "try on" until they measure you and make it for you. For thing like helmets, I agree 100%, you should try them on before you buy them. Sizes vary a lot. But that doesn't have to be at a shop, you can just try on a friend's at the dropzone.

Yes, Jon is Jon Morrison. Hope you all have fun - let me know when/where you decide to go to the tunnel. Jon, Nicole and I are going the first weekend of December if any of you want to join us.
-
Talk to Franz, he'll help you order the right suit for you. I think Jon at Tecumseh has a Michigan suit - you might talk to him too. Zippers are to make it easier to get the suit on/off with shoes on - I got them on my first suit, but not on the second one I just ordered. You'll need to shoe-goo the booties, but if you do that they'll hold up just fine (you can still take the booties off between jumps with or without zippers). Who all is going to be on your 4-way team? Sounds like fun - let me know if you need any help getting started. I'm far from an expert, but can pass along the advice I've gotten from some great coaches over the past year or so. -Allison

When they do a 180, they run the second jump run offset from the first to avoid dropping you on top of another group. So if the first was straight over the DZ, the second would be several tenths of a mile off to one side of the DZ.

When do you consider yourself a "skydiver"
AllisonH replied to mitsuman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I consider others skydivers when I know they'll be back to jump again on a regular basis. So different times for different people. I considered myself a skydiver when I got to the point (between 100-150 jumps) when I was comfortable enough with my abilities that I wasn't afraid to walk up to organizers and ask to jump with them.
