Just curious, what data do we have that shows if we tap our reserves, (not to be called supply) that it will only last two years? Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Well here is the probably now...... WASHINGTON — President Bush will lift an executive ban on offshore oil drilling, although new oil exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf will remain off limits until Congress also takes action. The president will make a Rose Garden statement on Monday, where he is expected to announce his lifting of the ban. www.foxnews.com Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

I don't know who's more liberal...... McCain or Kallend Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

I for one am for lifting the ban but my fear is like any other progress in this country, our men in black robes will over turn the decision as they rule from the bench. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

This is interesting how this will play out. Just posted by the AP today........ WASHINGTON — President Bush on Saturday tried to pin the blame on Congress for soaring energy prices and said lawmakers need to lift long-standing restrictions on drilling for oil in pristine lands and offshore tracts believed to hold huge reserves of fuel. "It's time for members of Congress to address the pain that high gas prices are causing our citizens," the president said. "Every extra dollar that American families spend because of high gas prices is one less dollar they can use to put food on the table or send a child to college. The American people deserve better." With gasoline prices above $4 a gallon, Bush and his Republican allies think Americans are less reluctant to allow drilling offshore and in an Alaska wild refuge that environmentalists have fought successfully for decades to protect. Nearly half the people surveyed by the Pew Research Center in late June said they now consider energy exploration and drilling more important than conservation, compared with a little over a third who felt that way only five months ago. The sharpest shift in attitude came among political liberals. Democrats say they are for drilling, but argue that oil companies aren't going after the oil where they already have leases. So why open new, protected areas? they ask. Democrats say there are 68 million acres of federal land and waters where oil and gas companies hold leases, but aren't producing oil. “Americans are fed up every time they go to fill up and they're right to demand action. But instead of a serious response, President Bush and his allies simply repeat the same old line more drilling," Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said in the Democrats' radio address. "Democrats support more drilling," he said. "In fact, what the president hasn't told you is that the oil companies are already sitting on 68 million acres of federal lands with the potential to nearly double U.S. oil production. That is why in the coming days congressional Democrats will vote on 'Use It or Lose It' legislation requiring the big oil companies to develop these resources or lose their leases to someone else who will." "But we know that drilling by itself will not solve the problem of high gas prices," Van Hollen said. "We cannot drill our way to energy independence." He cited Democrats' calls to tap the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve, because it is full and "America's rainy day is now." And he said the country must focus on new energy policies that focus on alternatives to oil. Bush said that Democrats are at fault and that "Americans are increasingly frustrated with Congress' failure to take action. "One of the factors driving up high gas prices is that many of our oil deposits here in the United States have been put off-limits for exploration and production. Past efforts to meet the demand for oil by expanding domestic resources have been repeatedly rejected by Democrats in Congress." Bush repeated his call for Congress to lift the restrictions, including a ban on offshore drilling. A succession of presidents from George H.W. Bush to Bill Clinton to the current president have sided against drilling in these waters as has Congress each year for 27 years, seeking to protect beaches and coastal states' tourism economies. It's not that he dislikes him so much, it's that he's threatened by Obama. Like our fellow jumper said, his way of life will change. Sheep can only have one shepherd (and no I'm not calling black people sheep just incase someone decides to deviate from the topic.... metaphor). Jesse now has a polar opposite sales pitch laying upon the ears of his followers and he knows it. It will be interesting to see how Al Sharpton chimes in on this one. I wonder if the tempatures near the equator are rising as well. I mean if the equator takes the blunt of the sun's rays, wouldn't the tempatures in this region be higher than lets say 10 years ago?? If they are then it makes sense to me regarding the global warming because the whole planet should be retaining more heat as a whole.... no? However, if the equator is pretty close to what it was 10 years ago but all of a sudden the North Pole becomes a slush puppy, I would say that the other theory presents more logic. Before you repond, keep in mind I am not a scientist so pretend I'm just one of those "common folk" you are trying to over, in support for the matter. Let me ask you something professor..... In your opinion, was the behavior in New Orleans justified? Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

I'm trying to figure out why some people pull the race card..... We are just commenting on the difference of two locations in the country. Unless someone feels there might be different cultures. Kinda like how Maine and Georgia have two different cultures. What are the race ratios between the two? I didn't play the race card. I just adjusted the spotlight a bit to better illustrate the one your were trying to be plausibly deniable about. you are assuming Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Ay, Yup. Tastes like chicken. Let's move on to discuss how the Chinese reacted to the earthquake they suffered. They're less filling. Has anyone checked up to see about the looting and violence in China.....? Just curious to see if China has handled this like Iowa. Where did you get that number? It's way high. Very high........ Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Good Show Chap http://www.hoystory.com/?p=5029&referer=sphere_related_content An international team of researchers was able to provide evidence of explosive volcanism in the deeps of the ice-covered Arctic Ocean for the first time. Researchers from an expedition to the Gakkel Ridge, led by the American Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), report in the current issue of the journal Nature that they discovered, with a specially developed camera, extensive layers of volcanic ash on the seafloor, which indicates a gigantic volcanic eruption. Volcanic eruptions under the Arctic couldn't possibly melt the ice now could it? Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?! -
Speak about pre-planning...... Wasn't it the Mayor of New Orleans that had access to city buses and declined to use them for evacuation even after his office officials proposed it?!?!? Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Iowa activated their emergency plans. NO did not. N'awlins got lotsa nigras. I'wer don't. Nice - funny how it's only the LIBERALS (you know, the party that *supposedly* stands up for minorities) that keep trying to make that association. He's been watching Bill Maher too long Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

If we not judge that behavior... then we should let the vicitms of the looted stores, the ones raped in the Super Dome, and the surviving family members of those killed by the mobbers to judge that behavior. There were people effect by the storm and by the inexcusable behavior. I wonder what someone who was effected by Katrina's fury AND by the rape and looting would say.... food for thought. Blue ones! Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Dave, New Orleans behaved horrible. Rape, killing each other, and looting..... Although the possiblity of an officer firing at someone in the back can exist. I think the difference in elements between what New Orleans police and Iowa police had to deal with are 180 degrees apart. Especially when it came to the community's behavior. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

There's really no doubt that Iowa is a mostly white state, while NO is a mostly black urban city. It seems rather suspect that you claim to not know, but giving you the benefit of the doubt: Iowa - http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/19000.html just under 3M people, 94.6% identified as white. 2.5% identified as black. New Orleans - http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/22/2255000.html 470k people, 67.3% black, 28.1% white. WOW... it really is a big difference between the two. Thank you for being objective in giving me the benefit of the doubt as I did not know the ratios. I still think there is no excuse to behave in that manner. Raping, killing, looting, etc..... Once again people think this post was about race.....Why? Am I missing the writing on the wall or something? I really don't know the ratios of race between the two regions but it appears I might have to find out because some people's compass keeps pointing in the same direction. Why are people "assuming" that behavior in one region is tied to race?? Is that the frame of mind with some?? It's not what my post said. Not once did it mentioned race but if someone assumes that was the intention then it clearly shows that person's perception of their own reality. QuoteOne other thing on the looting, since you didn't take a few seconds to search on Google. Since the flooding was localized, it was easy to put up blockades and force people to wait in line for hours to register to re enter their neighborhood.Quote .... but the looting in Katrina happened where the people were shortly after, and continued for weeks after the water line began to drop. In addition, people in New Orleans were also kept quarantined like Iowa from their homes. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

hahahaha Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Yep, why don't you grow a pair and say it. "Them there niggers ain't as good as us white folk" I could compare the circumstances and point out that with the recent flooding, people had some advance warning, fairly clear delineation of where the water would rise and time to withdraw to functional places ...places with stuff like electricity, food, and roofs. Helps getting things accomplished, ya know. ...but that's not going to sway your convictions about racial inferiority now is it? But there is much more damage and more area covered with the North flooding now than it was in New Orleans. Three states the Mississippi river has now poured into. Does more damage and more flooding equal less resources??? I'm still trying to figure out why one location of natural disaster has behaved themselves, and another location could not.
