Any drum and bass heads amongst yall? There's a nice little scene in SoTex, kept quietly underground, but we are here. There's some great parties in H-town that alot of people show up too ( I almost died while watching Dieselboy, but thats a whole thread on its own) DnB refuses to go away, even if bunk ass Chemistry Records stopped stocking any DnB or jungle, bastards. I can't believe I stayed up to watch the whole damn game. As soon as they put Blum in I should have given up. Isn't that sports cliche rule #52 "In a clutch situation, a player will always make a gamebreaking play against the team from which he was cut." What a terrible week for Houston sports, the texans suck, the Astros are in need of a sports miracle (it is possible) and the Houston Heat dodgeball team was eliminated by Average Joes. Where's Lima and the rally cap when we really need it? Did you miss all the Cubs and Red Sox "curse" stuff from the last couple of years? Stros fans are mad because of a strange policy shift by MLB, wheras the Cubs and Sox fans spent decades crying over a "supernatural curse" when in reality they just plian sucked for 50 years. landmines in centerfield? I like the idea. Talk about a great way to boost low ratings. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."

I'm with you, screw MLB. Whats the point of having a homefield advantage if it is negated? Why not just play every game in Chicago. F them in the A. Go Astros Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."

Points all well taken. Perhaps we were a bit overzealous in our approach. I appreciate everyones comments and concerns. Edit: In light of safety concerns we have changed our wager to buying a beer for the guy who gets closer to the target, this will allow us to work on perfecting our landing technique and challenge each other to get better without adding undue pressures to the situation. Thanks everyone for your input. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."

I understand totally where you're coming from. as somebody with so much more experience than myself your advice is heeded. On the other hand though, Is an accurate landing not part of the requirements for an A license? Please dont assume that because I'm inexperienced that I will put 50 dollars ahead of the safety of myself and the people around me. What is wrong with setting reasonable goals (that are an integral part of the traning program) that we can have alittle fun with? We are not doing something completely outrageous, like trying to outrun instructors, or dropkick each other out the door. We are pushing ourselves to be better skydivers while at the same time getting bragging rights over our friends. One of my friends and I did our first AFF jumps on Saturday but we both missed our landings. We were aiming for the pea pit, but I came up about 50 ft. short and he overshot by about 20 ft. Anyway, we made a golf style "skins game" and whoever hits the pit on the next jump gets 50 bucks. If both or neither of us stick the landing, it goes up to 100 dollars on the next jump. I was wondering what other games and/or bets have come up within the skydiving community. What kind of crazy wagers are ya'll making out there? Sorry, maybe I was being too obtuse with my responses. What I meant in my first reply was "Come down to Texas and I garauntee every night will be hot and steamy, even when it's cold outside." and with the second I meant, "You might have to heat yourself up because I'm a few thousand miles too far awy to be of much assitance." I made my first AFF jump on Saturday...WHAT A RUSH!!! i was more nervous/amped up for this than any of my other jumps. I felt like I was going to puke all the way up to altitude. Once I got outside the airplane, I felt much more comfortable and as soon as I hit the ground I was (almost) ready to get back in the air. I guess it will take awhile to get totally comfortable with both myself and my gear, but I know once I get edumacated I will be in a whole new world. I think the T-shirt one of the instructors wore pretty much sums it up..."Most sports only require one ball to play, for skydiving you need both." If you're in town on Saturday check out Gillians, my favorite place to watch the 'stros. THere's always dave and Busters too, booze, video games, pool, sports on a thousand Tvs, that place is dope. IMO, Club Sum is the best after hours spot, if you're going to be out late. You might want to check out some of the haunted houses scattered around town. Phobia on 290 is my fav, but Screamworld on the west side beltway is cool as well. The museum of natural history had a sweet-ass-sweet Lord of the Rings display a few months ago, I don't know if its still there, but if you dug the movies the exhibit kicks ass. If you play paintball, Tanks out in Katy is THE place to be. I think world cup is this weekend though, so it might be knid of dead out there. Between those and all the stuff already mentioned, you shouls be able to find some fun stuff. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."

When I did my jumps the instructors were constantly cracking jokes and it did an amazing job of putting myself and my friends at ease. There were lots of lines to the tandem customers along the lines of, "So which one of us is supposed to pull th ehandle?", "Why is the airplane taking off? How do we get back?" "I've never actually jumped before, but I had to find a way to pay for a tandem of my own.", my favorite though, "Is this an altimeter or a watch? If it says 1500 is that 3 o' clock or should I be thinking about pulling a chute or something?" Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."

Well, I made my third jump, second working tandem, on Sunday!!!! AFF, here I come!!!!!!! I can't wait, now all the fun stuff starts. Within five days I have 3 jumps, and each one was better than the one before it. i just hope I don't get too jaded and bored to enjoy every single jump the way I enjoyed these last few. I'm absolutely and totally hooked!!! Sorry, for wasting your time if you read this, but I'm busting at the seems and everybody I know is tired of hearing about it!!!! I dont know if yall have seen thi syet, http://www.thatvideosite.com/view/651.html It shows some nifty RW and swooping type stuff, its short but kind of cool. On th esame site, there ia also a video taken from the show Max X that shows a guy on his first AFF jump where his main fails. After a short out of control free fall hi sinstructor pulls his reserve. Just when he thinks its over, the poor guy smacks into a bunch of power lines. Ouch. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
