Sony Action Cam - GoPro competitor (HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15)

I just pushed the lens out of the front...only downside is that it will never be waterproof again.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Ive been using the camera a bit more (had some shots a few weeks back, but they had my DSLR in the bottom of frame, now mounted the sony further forward to get a cleaner image). Here are some shots to judge quality. Colors are very nice without the blow-outs on white when its sunny. Deployment shot at 120 fps - link Wingsuit Rodeo shot at 120 fps - link Both shots have slightly been cropped to a smaller aspect ratio. Color has not been touched (aside from overlayd flares on transitions) So what you see, is what comes straight out of the camera. I did remove the front lens on the casing, this removed a slight mist/glare I could see when the sun hit the camera/casing sideways. overcast/dark conditions shot at 120 fps - link JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Would my AAD have worked in this situation?
mccordia replied to salomon767's topic in Wing Suit Flying
AADs have an activation speed of 78 mph at an altitude of 750ft, Regardless of deployments or whatever else happens before. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Not ment as an insult, but the same seems to apply to you and wingsuits. Instead of talking about buying this device for wingsuit flying, Id focus on AFF and making some actual wingsuit jumps at some point to get a more in-depth view and understanding of what you're often trying to talk about. For the record...Kallen is 100% correct. Depending on placement, barometric devices can get 2000 ft deviations during agressive manouvers, and the device moving in and out of burbles and/or high pressure areas under the body during flares/dives. If you dont take my word for it, I have no doubt ANY wingsuit pilot will be able to supply you with a load of funny and freaky graphs (from both GPS and barometric devices). Sony Action Cam - GoPro competitor (HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15)
mccordia replied to soulbabel's topic in Photography and Video
Having played with the AS15 the last two weeks, I love the image quality, but the box itself has some severe issues with fogging up on the inside due to large empty spaces in the back of the box. It could be an issue with the current (colder) EU weather. Who knows, but on most skydive/basejumps where the exit/ground altitude varied quite a bit the camera had a very faded image due to misting on the inside. Since Im not using the camera for pools/diving, Ill probably remove the lens on the casing to just have the actual lens out in the open air to prevent this. But that aside, really liking it and the 120fps is awesome to play with. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Is the 4K option on the GP3 actual 4K chip, or is it done through uprezing? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I know a lot of people jumping stilettos for wingsuit...they all seem to have a good working relationship with their rigger and see him a bit more often than every 6 months for repacks as well JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Last sunday we did a sunset jump that was very dark/gloomy where we had both a GoPro2 and a Sony AS15. The GoPro2 on the jump had a noticable grainy/noisy video, where-as the sony video had an extremely noticable better picture quality with much, much less grain. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
In most countries, the licences (next to freefall time) also list various things you need to be able to do (at least here they do) and the licences seem more about acquired skills, with freefall time as a fun fringe extra. If someone can gather all their proficiency card demands, thats probably more imporant that seeing in which discipline he/she gathered those freefall minutes. Also doesnt hurt to make your initial post a bit more complete, and not having it sound as a vague facebook update, as to most people here it reads as if you're mostly trying to moan a bit about Felix' jump yesterday as opposed to raising 'a serious USPA issue' JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think its a bit strange that we make a point of wingsuit being normal freefall when it comes to these records, but cant do the same when it comes to formations and all other things wingsuit related. Otherwise dont make post about undocked 100 ways either[:P Though wingsuit flying for sure can be classified as freefall I do fully see its a different animal from what was done yesterday. Longest freefall: Kittinger Longest wingsuit flight: Florez Both are accomplishments in their own right that deserve their own spotlight and none of the sad bitching about semantics. I think a lot of people are taking the auto brightness/contrast operation that the GoPro uses as a pro, over the more 'flat' colors on the Sony. Note that you can actually do the same thing in post on the sony footage, but in case of a Gopro having blown out whites/over exposed footage with a lot of sunlite on clouds, your footage is basically lost. From an editors pov. the Sony definately has a big advantage (codec aside). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Thats not a flying squirrel. Its a Philipine flying lemur. If you look closely, you'll notice its a perspective thing in the picture. The animal is (Sadly) dead and draped on a line, and not being held up by the guy standing about 2 meters further back. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Most of the high scores in the PPC track database include a flare, and thus are not really systainable fallrates. But the point where the flare wears of around 40 or so seconds into each track probably comes close. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Agreed with every word, and though more than guilty of sometimes making annoyed replies, they stem from the same frustration. Why cant people see this is about helping us as a community vs people out to grab money or look important. If something positive, structured, disciplined and mandatory/official isnt promoted and instated by us soon, something will be forced down our collective throats from above/outside regardless of us liking it or not. Niels...Mads...one of those L&B guys. I just remember him showing it from the back of his car in 2004 at the Herc boogie. Suit design in terms of wing profile/shape/materials seems to influence performence more than these gimicky integrated 'solutions' that seem to have no real scientific/measurable difference. Especially when compared with sleek low-drag baserigs on 'normal' wingsuits that give a flyer the same low drag characteristic, with tried and proven gear solutions. Normal suit design seems to catch up with the integrated solutions faster as well. Meaning an owner now has two sets of gear to replace if he wants to stay ahead of the rest. I think it was Mads Larsen who had a sugar glider type suit with integrated rig back in 2003/2004. VKB also jumped several tracking/wingsuit hybrid setups way before the fusion or core. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Yea...like mine (skyhook) and most students that have one. Aside from the usual RSL debate (not linked to wingsuit), on students and big suits especially Id even recommend getting one over potential instability after a cutaway with a longer delay (and arms on your chest). Good ideas are worth spreading... Within IPC Ive been advocating it as the Kallend system Jonathan Taggle also liked it a lot. Hope USPA also takes notice... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
