yo mamas so fat, she can't see in freefall because her chin flaps in front of her eyes...
  3. My nephew used to have a T-shirt that sayd "If idiot's could fly, this place would be an airport" Would be fun to wear that on your DZ :) Can't find the shirt for sale anywhere though :( Cya, Jarno p.s. A WHOLE WEEKEND OF JUMPING, FINALY!!! (the weather sucks, but I have high hopes anyways..)
  4. Hope it doesn't suck as much as the Electronic Arts game called 'skydive' Would be great to have a skydiving game that 'sort of' captures 10% of the feeling, one way or another..... At least the images look 'okay'....curious as to how the game itself looks, and as to what the actual gameplay is...
  5. >know any good places where wingnut can leave his car and >where we can crash for the night and go on the bender in >the safe knowledge that our gear will be safe etc etc. 'Amsterdam' and 'safe parking' are not realy two things you see in the same sentence often..:( I think I'd be 'kinda' safe to rent a locker at the station, but leaving your gear in a car in Amsterdam is a definate 'NO NO' If you are looking for a free place to bunk for one or two nights or a safe place to keep your gear, you're more then welcome at me and my girlfriends place. Only downside is that I live in Rotterdam (which is a 1 to 1,5 hour drive from Amsterdam) but you're more then welcome... >not sure about the marine dropsmcordia's talking about >though. do you have to book the equipment in texel prior >to using it or is it better to just get it sorted while i >am there??? I haven't been to Texel (yet) but a few of my friends have, and as far as I know you can just book everything on the spot (just to be sure you could call one or two days in advance) The Marine drops thing was a (partial) joke. A few DZ moved their entire jump to Texel for the past weekends (because most other DZ's are closed because of foot&mouth), and you can fly along to texel in the plane for the price of a normal jumpticket. Basicly I'd be like using A Cessna/Porter or whatever plane instead of the boat (A lot of fun, and cheeper too:) But since you guys are already in Amsterdam I think the boat would easyest :) >i'll be up in langaron the 15th / 16th of may through to >the 22nd of may so will be able to get current by the time >i get up to texel if you arer jumping up there then drop >me a line we'll jump together (have only got my cat a >though) I haven't got my A licence yet, so I can't realy jump on any other DZ then my own (okay, it's possible, but way to much trouble) so I think I need to keep to my home DZ for now...but maybe next year...:) Anyways...if you need a place to bunk just yell... Cya, Jarno
  6. Although I was always the kid who was hanging upside down from trees, and jumping from the local dam, I used to have a serious problem with hights whenever I got higher then say 50 ft or so. Stuff like rollercoasters (going up before the initial drop) and high building scared the shit out of me, and people walking on the roof gave me an eary feeling in my stomache.. But for some stupid reason I have no problem with heights when I'm in an airplane, or about to jump out at 4.000 to 7.000 ft (haven't been any higher yet) Ofcource, it scared the sh*t out of me the first few jumps, and it's still not without any scared feelings when I jump, but that's only a brief second before jumping, and I think that's more common sense then an actual fear of heights that's scaring me at that moment... Anyways, Anyone else have (or had) a serious problem with heights before he/she started skydiving? Or perhaps still has (a bit) like me :) I'm always special..I can't have normal fear of heghts, I have partial fear of heights....50ft and up, on buildings and structures (when I'm not wearing a rig:) Cya, Jarno (Dutch Guy) http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia
  7. My mother would rather castrate a bull with her bare teeth then jump out of an airplane :) But seriously, my mother got sick from the kiddie merrie-go-round, and has a real problem with heights...she's the last person in the world I ever expect to see under a parachute.....:) But my younger brother Kenny is starting jumpschool this saterday (together with my nephew), and my sister is also getting a tandem for her birthday when she turns 16 later this year...so that's anough family in the air for now :) Jarno (Dutch Guy) http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia/
  8. My mom was already past 'scared shitless' because my dad was up there...I think she'd probably suffer a near fatal heart-attack if something like a cut-away would have happend..:)
  9. Last week was my dad's birthday, he turned 52 (and also my own birthday btw. turned 23..man I'm getting old:) Together with my brother and sister we collected some money, and gave our dad a tandemjump (with video:) He had always wanted to skydive and had already signed up for a S/L cource 20 years ago, but his (twin)brother broke his back with skydiving and he decided not to do it (it didn't scare him off, but he didn't want to do it because it scared the shit out of his mother/family...) But since I started jumping last year, he kept saying how cool it looked, and kept telling everyone how he almost started skydiving 20 years ago, and couldn't get anough of skydiving stories and movies, so we finaly just sayd..."YOUR GONNA JUMP!" Last sunday was finaly the day! He was gonna do his tandemjump at Skydive Rotterdam (not my own DZ, but it's closer to home) First there was a small hold (they had to check the plane for damage, it had sorta landed on it's wing..which is not good:) After the plane got an okay my dad recieved instructions while we headed for the DZ (20 KM drive...sheezzz) It took quite a while before it was his turn (we watched about 10 loads before him...4 hours of waiting), cause there where a lot of other tandems that went first, but around 19:00 hours it was finaly time. The plane came overhead, and I kinda experienced what my mom probably constantly feels when I'm jumping. Not that I don't trust the materials/people, but it's just a funny feeling to know your father is 13000 ft above you, about to jump out :) I was watching through my videocamera (zoomed in to the max) and I clearly saw the tandem exit, together with 2 other people (the cameraflyer and a regulair skydiver that decided to follow the tandem:) The extra skydiver docked the tandem for a sec, and then let go and went nuts, doing a lot of freaky (clown-esque:) freeflying around the tandem. On the video you constantly see this dude everywhere, upside-down, going from left to right, right to left, up and down..My dad loved it! Too bad my dad's gogles flew of his head, so he spent the last 10 or 15 seconds of freefall hanging on to his gogles (and expensive glasses underneath:) Then came pull-time, and the chute opened, but not quite perfect. I was looking at everything from the ground, and through the camera lens I clearly saw one side of the parachute that was still closed. A line-over, not a nasty one, but still way to little fabric to make a man happy. They went into a spin for about 3 or 4 seconds, but then the tandemmaster managed to clear the lineover (the parachute made a wierd wobble, and then finaly fully inflated, much to my relief, cause I had a small hart-attack) The tandemmaster later sayd that he was about to go for the reserve when it cleared. He initialy pulled at 6.000 because of my dad's gogles flying off, but was happy he did so, cause it gave him the extra altitude/time to clear the lineover.. My mother (also watching from the ground) never had the idea anything was wrong (to my relief:) but was still happy he was back on the ground :) The video(s) turned out great (I'll try and post it on my website sometime next week) and my dad had the time of his life. Next weekend I'm finaly gonna jump again myself (after 2 months of not jumping). 2 days of jumping, so with a bit of luck (and good weather) I'll get in 4 to 6 jumps (i'm not that quick at packing yet:( My brother and nephew are also starting skydiving this weekend, and I hope I'm on the same load as they are when they make their first jump....now all I need is some good weather..:) Cya, Jarno (Dutch guy) http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia
  10. You could also check other DZ's in Holland. Some of them do jump-ins at texel (They fly there and drop a few skydivers for the weekend, and usualy the plane stays one or 2 days..:) Which would save you a ferry ticket (but you'd probably have to jump marine style, sleeping bags and a case of beer strapped to your belly:) Hope you guys have fun.... Jarno (Dutch Guy:)
  11. Talk about it...I have a friend/co-worker who's been saying this ever since I started. When I talk briefly about how cool my weekend was he always replies casual with 'mwa..I'mm try that sometime.." or "yea..I'll probably do that" But it's so obvious he's never EVER going to actualy do that...but he probably also knows he'll never actualy do it... But when someone says something cool, you need to reply with something 'cooler' and I think the whole 'ill do that someday' remark is nothing more that.. Sad..:) Greetz, JC
  12. Was surfing some TV channels in hope of finding something skydive related. Couldn't find anything, except for a Discovery channel doc. I'd already seen a dozen times. But watched it anyways (about marines/PJ's jumpschool) After the thing was done I surf through some more channels and find this TellSell commercial thing about curlers or something (you know, to 'perm' your hair..if your a woman that is:) I was about to turn of the TV when all of a sudden I see this woman gearing up for a skydive. Those TellSell idiots where using skydiving as a demo to show how good their curlers where....hahahaha Although the whole thing is pretty lame, it did show some nice skydiving to the general public. No 'people with a deathwish' kinda reporting, but just a nice demo of skydiving...nothing negative (which is always good) Cause if there is one thing I hate about skydiving on TV, it's that almost 90% of the stuff shown is negative about the sport, showing people risking their lives, almost getting killed and doing stupid stuff... Anyways..just killing time..my dad is doing a tandem tomorrow, and NEXT week i'm finaly going up again..no more sick cows and sheep, so I'm going to jump my butt off!
  13. Wish I could come, but I'm still a long way away from my A licence (and need to post more on the board instead of only reading everything:) Hope you have a great time.. I'll be jumping that same weekend, only about 100 km from where you'll be :) Cya, Jarno *IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY!!! JUST TURNED 23 20 minutes ago!!!*
  14. Funny this came up, was just wondering how many folks have skydiving 'in the family' My uncle used to jump a lot about 20 years ago. My dad was a rigger back then, and used to fly along in the plane to film exits or film landings from the ground, and ofcource) was always the one to drive the bus since he wasn't jumping anyways... He finaly signed up for a skydiving cource, but two weeks before he was to start his brother had an accident. His chute (a round) collapsed on one side and he went into the ground, falling from about 200 ft. He broke his back, but was lucky to make a full recovery (although he can't work anymore) and be able to walk again. My dad decided to not go to the skydiving cource, mainly because of his own mother (my grandma) and my mom (who where worried like hell, since my uncle was in the hospital, and at that stage it wasn't certain if he would walk again) My uncle however remained 'in love' with skydiving. But never went to a DZ since the accident, because of the memories. As he puts it 'going to a DZ is just too painfull, because next to reminder of my accident and the hospital and pains, it also reminds me of all the fun I'll never have again....' Still, my uncle always amazed me with his stories, and I already wanted to skydive when I was just a small kid. It took me quite a few years to actualy start, but last oktober I finaly did (and here, finaly comes the family part:) and I'm a heavy addict (went for cash today and the machine just sayd "BEEEEEEEPPP" not anough money:) Since oktober, my niece got interested, and she did a tandem (januari) And this saterday, my dad is finaly going to skydive! He's going to do a tandem (with video, cost a few pennies, but worth seeing:) and who knows what will happen after that...although my mother will probably loose it, I hope he wants to start skydiving too:) And next saterday (5th may) my younger brother (Kenny:) and my nephew are doing a complete S/L cource...It's fun to just think about jumping with my brother and/or nephew in the future. Next to the fact that I'll have a new excuse to go to the DZ "I want to see my brothers first jump/C&P/10second delay/360....blablabla" and ofcource do a few jumps 'while I'm there' :) Next to all this jumping my GF is not afraid of skydiving and is not afraid to maybe do a tandem sometime..:) And to make the matters worse, my little sister (16 years of age) is already crazy about skydiving and wants a tandem for her birthday... How's that for skydiving in the family :) Greetz, Jarno

I think the best thing about point break is where Patric Sweazy(?) tells Keanu "1000 FEET...PULL" and they go into a 15 second arguement about who should pull first :) And damn, Holland is heaving some mighty fine weather today...but I have to wait two more weeks to finaly jump again (after two months of not jumping due to Mouth/Foot disease) And next week, my dad is doing his tandem jump...:) Cya, Jarno Cordia Netherlands http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia/
  16. Gypsy Moths is a nice movie to watch. A bit 'dated', but great fun to watch (a lot of skydiving scenes) and starring Gene Hackman and Burt Lancaster....(not second rate actors like most Dropzone/Cutaway stars:) http://posters.imdb.com/posters/g/gypsymothsb23111.jpg Three skydivers and their travelling thrill show barnstorm through a small midwestern town one Fourth of July weekend. Rent it if possible....the movie also has some incredible shots of low-pulls (although this could be dummy's, it looks like real skydivers when you see the footedge) Seeing this movie also makes you realize just how incredibly small the gear is we have today...even a huge student-rig is small and easy compared to the amount of stuff those guys carried... Doing a search for 'skydive' at http://www.imdb.com also gave me the name for 'The Skydivers' from 1963 A couple own an airfield which makes its money on skydiving in the middle of New Mexico. They are having marital problems because the man is cheating on his wife, but remains true to his wife. The woman he is cheating with is jealous of the man's wife, so she seduces another guy to conspire with her to kill him. Meanwhile, the wife is cheating on the cheating husband with the husband's old Army buddy... According to the reviews on IMDB it's supposed to dwarf movies like Dropzone/Cutaway in terms of bad acting...:) Would love to see it...:) And now someone please make that darn Mouth/Claw thing stop..I want to skydive :( Cya Jarno http://ww.3dluvr.com/mccordia/
  17. Tom Cruise would be cool (I think) And since he's into skydiving already (although I don't know 'how deep') he'd probably do (or at least try:) most stuff himself (I believe he jumped at Skydive Miami or Deland) And damn...why won't that Mouth/Claw sickness stop...I wanna jump! Greetz, JC
  18. The biggest issue here in Holland (and entire europe) right now is not about animals becoming resistent or anything. It's a damn ECONOMICAL issue... When they inject the entire Dutch stock of animals, they'll have live animals without anny illnesses.....BUT... Almost 80% of all our meat gets exported, and there isn't a single country that will take meat injected with the vaccin. Even though its harmless, and not the vaccin nor the disease itself affects people or other animals. So if they inject all the cows/sheep...nobody wants them, and they'll just cost money for more food, and will never make money cause they just can't be sold, and a lot probably have to be killed (Holland has 16 Milion people and close to 12 milion cows...that's a lot of expensive cattle if it can't be sold...) If they don't inject all the cattle, and just kill them right away, it will save 'the country' a lot of money. If they inject the cows, and let them live, a lot of farmers will (in the end) will have to get rid of their cows cause they can't sell them, loose a lot of money, and perhaps even their farm (cause buying an entirly new load of cattle is too expensive for most 'smaller' farmers) But if they kill all the cattle right away, a lot of farmers will instantly be broke and loose their farm... So the farmers are f*cked with both solutions.... But because nobody is making a decision, more animals are getting sick and just last night they anounced closing an entire 'provincy' in Holland (something like a 'state' in the USA, but smaller:) so a lot of people can't leave their hometown....sick huh? Concidering Holland is only 300 KM long/200 KM wide, and Mouth/Claw illness can travel up to 300 KM BY AIR...YES, BY AIR! It's all a lost cause if you ask me... I hope they decide what to do soon, cause this whole thing sux bigtime....(not even mentioning not being able to jump...cause 'how selfish of me' that's all what's on my mind right now..) Cya, Jarno
  19. Because of the illness of cows/sheep and other farm animals, a large number of Dutch DZ are forced to close their doors, as are a lot of UK DZ. This because they are afraid you might carry the virus, and infect animals when you land near them in the fielfs or fly over them (RIGHT!) There is a list of UK DZ (and if they're open of closed this weekend) at http://www.bpa.org.uk/bulletin1.htm There is no news on Dutch DZ yet, but DAMN this sucks. Jarno http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia/
  20. I'm a 3D Computer animator/modeler and video-editor. Does that qualify my as an official geek? I sure hope so :) Cya, Jarno Only 10 more days untill I skydive again...my 20th jump.. that's 235 hours....which is 14100 minutes, which are 846000 seconds. 845999 seconds, 845998 seconds, 845997, 845996, 845995, 845994, 845993, 845992, 845991, 845990........
  21. MY FIRST POST ON THE NEW FORUM!!! Wooppie ;) I haven't posted that many messages, so a quick introduction. I'm Jarno from Holland. I've got 19 jumps at the moment, just started freefalling and I'm just in love with the sport (sport? lifestyle!) Since I started skydiving last year (oktober) most feedback from my family and friends was possitive. My dad is going for a tandemjump, and my younger brother and nephew have signed up for the same S/L cource this coming May My mother is the only one not too happy about this, but she does understand why 'I like it so much' (understatement;) My niece did a tandemjump two months ago and also want to start skydiving...and then I have a little sister who can't wait untill she turns 18 (3 more years to go though;) The most fun are the people who thought I went mad when I started skydiving....they now think my entire family is loosing it hahahah! I have an old 'buddy' who has changed quite a bit the last few years. He is not realy the most pleasant person to be around. Always making fun of other folks, trying to look good by making others look bad, and making 'snappy' comments that sometimes realy hurt people.. Since I started skydiving, he's been a verry 'though and cool'. Constantly saying how he'll start jumping when he has the money, and trying to make me feel like I'm shit for even trying something like skydiving. The bad thing is, it looks it might actualy happen sometime around fall this year. Why is he your friend you might ask...he's not anymore...but he is also my colegue at work...so I have to deal with him. His 'big talking' doesn't bother me, and neither do his nasty comments hurt, but the thought of him starting skydiving just makes me think....GEEEEZZ, NO WAY! So my (lengthy) question is... Instead of wanting to 'convert' people around you, have any of you ever had people from which you thought..."Oh..Please..he is the last person in the world I would want to see skydiving..." greetz and blue skies! Jarno www.3dluvr.com/mccordia/
