Google Earth Drop Zone Project -- Ideas and Discussion
Weichkeks replied to quade's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Since the Lausitz is now available in a better resolution it's time to add our dropzone Bautzen-Litten. Thanks for the effort Eule! Lars -
This Google Earth thingy w/ or w/o GPS-support sounds pretty interresting. Too bad my dropzone location is still very very low res.

This may be a little off-topic, but is there any way to exactly measure the distance of your track?
-
I guess its 130 kts (knots) which makes about 240 km/h or 150 mph.

name the skydiving associations

DFV - German Parachutesport Association (Deutscher Fallschirmsport Verein) -
Here in Germany in order to jump "earth view" is required. Its illegal to jump w/o seeing your landing point. That beeing said it's obviously common practice for a lot of jumpers to jump anyway. With my 50 jumps i wasn't in such a situation yet. If already some other jumpers jumped right before me i'd probably go with the flow i guess... On the other hand after reading this thread i'd probably think twice.

I suppose same goes for the Altitrack? Crap

As much as i enjoy watching these dudes track (i hope someday i'll be able to do that too) afaik they do use special tracking suits. I'm not saying its all because of their suits, but its definitely part of their magic :) Btw, i think these tracking suits are kinda like the ones ski-jumper use.

... you tell your dentist the new bridge has to wait coz you need a new rig first -
No I wasn't. Although it was C205 which i was referring to (i just checked :) the plane specs are quite similar so you might be right anyway. I did a little research and thats what i found: Twin Otter: 85kts / 98mph / 157kmh AN-2: 65kts / 75mph / 120kmh Cessna 206: 75kts / 86 mph / 139 kmh Cessna Grand Caravan: 80kts / 92mph / 148kmh Pilatus Porter: 70kts / 81mph / 130kmh Twin Beach: 83kts / 95mph / 153kmh Keep in mind that these are exit speeds under competitive conditions. Student conditions may differ. The Jump Pilot's Handbook (2005) says: Lars

IIRC we exit on 170 kmp (105mph) on a C182. Not 100% sure tho.
