I know what you mean, I jump there to and it sucks that they are closed for the holidays, but I did take TK's advice and visited the guys at Skydive City for 5 days last week, it was a blast. But even if they were open here you know we wouldn't be jumping in this weather. ~Freedom is never free

When I went thru jump shcool my company jumped the towers and that was in 97, the only reason some didn't was because the engines that pull you up overheat. Good louck in all your training, maybe I run into you here in HOT Afghanistan where the sky is for the most part blue . ~Freedom is never free

Hi from a newby screamin' for Freedom

Hello and welcome to this great world of skydiving. I can relate in so many ways with your son, since I am also in the Army and that's how I started. After my first deployment I decided life is too short so I started skydiving. Now I have my own gear and it feels great. It is pretty expensive to get through the training and license but after that it is not expensive at all, well worth the money. The people in the skydiving world are really friendly and no matter where you go you will be welcomed. Blue Skies ~Freedom is never free -
Finally the day came and I did it.

SSG, glad you made your jump finally. See you up there. Airborne ~Freedom is never free -
Well being in the service now( Army) for about 10 years and currently deployed I used to always think less of any other service man if it wasn't Army, I was so worng...where I'm at we have all branches and we all do the same thing. I couldn't believe when I was out on patrol and I saw an airman with a rifle and LIVE AMMO, OMG I though to myself..well we are all the same when the shit hits the fan and it really counts. Good for him to step up and serve our great country. So us bastards don' t have to do 3 tours in 5 years. Airborne ~Freedom is never free

Hi Sharon, Being from the same area I understand where you are coming from. I believe you are at Ft Hood, be prepared for some very hot summers. I'm in the army myself stationed in Afghanistan now so my summer will be worst. I hope you can make your first jump and hopefully you like it just as much as all of us. I think the Dz you referred to is called Skydive Temple located in Salado, TX, I have never jumped there so I can't say much about the place. Before I deployed SD Dallas was my DZ but thats a long ways for you, they are great. I should be going home in May for 2 weeks R&R and all I'm going to be doing is jumping. If there is anything else you would like to know this is the place where you would get some great answers. Airborne! ~Freedom is never free

I like that, I wonder if your infinity looks the same way, I mean the color scheme.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you are at FLW, be being an engineer I know that place too well, since basic all my training has been there. Basic / AIT for 21T, 21B, 21H and now 21A. I was there right before I deployed for Engineer Officer Basic Course. I really don't like it there. So whats going to be your home DZ? Its a small world maybe we'll jump together someday. At my Home dz there are a couple of us still serving. I think we enjoy it a little better because of the static line experience (not so soft landings). Take care and good luck. Ahh I have come to realize that there are a lot of prior or current military here. I did my intro already here a few days ago but glad I'm not the only soldier here. Where are you from SSG? are you still in? I'm here in Afghanistan and dz.com is as close as I can get to skydiving. Kinda keeps everything fresh.. Welcome to the addictive world of skydiving. At least you can't say knees in the breeze now, its everything in the breeze. Airborne! ~Freedom is never free

Well If all goes as planned I will be home for memorial weekend. Its going to be weird being home let alone jumping but that is all I think about here in hell. Most of my soldiers are tired of me always talking about it, reading my magazine and looking at catalogs. I'm sure you guys can relate. At least I have recruited 2 more potential skydivers (maybe more) when they return to the free world. Airborne! ~Freedom is never free

Hello everybody, well this is my intro to the forums. I am fairly new to the sport, my home DZ is SD Dallas. I was able to do AFF there and all the requirements for my A but I did take my check dive the day before I got deployed (again) at SD The Farm in Georgia. I was really happy I was able to sneak out of the base and get it done before I came here to Afghanistan. I have been here now for 3 months and I sure miss jumping. A few days ago I ordered my first rig, I got an Infinity VSE, sabre2, pd reserve, I am supper excited to get it, I should get it done right before I go home for my 2 week vacation, guess what I'm going to be doing? Sad thing is I will have to come back, but I will be bringing my rig, maybe I can get a crazy Afghan to take me up and let me jump :-) Anyway, I'm happy to join you in the blue skies... Blue ones! ~Freedom is never free
