Every night, when I go to bed. I pull the covers over my head... and cry a little. We live in a scary, scary world. Sometimes, it's all I can do to summon the strength to even leave my house. Think about it... Armed thugs, Terrorists, Aids, Ebola, Global Warming, Ozone Depletion, Secondhand smoke, High blood pressure, High Cholestrol, Heart disease Lung Disease. Cancer Lead poisoning, Mercury poisoning, DRIVERS TALKING ON THEIR FOOKIN' CELL PHONES! You get the point.

You are so right. Maybe we could be so lucky as to have some other country drop a couple nuclear bombs on us. Oh look! A non sequitur.

For the last 60 years, Japan spent (on average) one percent of their GDP on national defense. Those guys are smart.

So, does this mean there one less criminal in the gene pool? With all the talk about gun related deaths of children, I'd like to see a study comparing current statistics to those of 40 or 50 years ago. My guess is we'd see a significantly higher gun death per armed household for today versus 40 or 50 years ago, which would indicate this issue has a lot to do with gun safety and gun education. I grew up around guns. My father collected them. We had boxes of ammo that were easily accessable (Anyone ever put a loaded cartidge in a vise???). Aside from intentionally shooting my brother in the ass with my daisy, I've never ever pointed a gun at anyone. It's just not done!

It speaks to the stereotypes about Americans being lazy, rude, self-centered...

Last week I posted a list of former Democratic Congressmen who have been, are or will be in prison. You assumed they were part of the "clinton Death list". I, in turn, assumed you had no idea of the significance of the list - Democrats doing prison time. It's easy to throw out negative labels and pretend your preferred party is so much better, but when you look at who has been convicted(key word) the corruption label seems more apt for the Democrats.

Practice what you preach is a different matter, altogether. I like how Nancy Pelosi always stays above the fray.

If it was an inside job, I'm guessing there were boatloads of people involved. We have the people who made missiles look like passenger jets, the military personel who implemented the attacks and the air traffic controls who monitored the path of the actual jets and missiles. Finally, there are all the hundreds of "top of their field", experts who studied the WTC Towers and Pentagon building and signed off on the official story. Here it is, five years later, and not a single person has come forward (even anonymously) claiming to have been a part of this supposed conspiracy. Back to the topic of the OP, I always thought higher education was about learning about a specific field and (a big "and" here folks) learning how to think... how to study something and reach your own conclusions in an intelligent manner. More and more, I hear stories of how later is being supplanted by liberal professors trying to indoctrinate their students with an extreme ideology. Additionally, I've heard numerous stories of students being penalized for challenging these leftist teachings. Maybe these are just rare, isolated cases that get a lot of exposure, but I tend to think it's much more of a widespread issue.

Who do You Think was the Greatest American
NCclimber replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
WOW! The first Republican set teh stage for following repubs... He was in bed with big business and let them trade arms and goods to the south so that his big business friends gain incredible wealth. And lets not overlook Abe's impeccable record on civil rights. What a guy. -
Most small towns (in what were Union and Confederate states) have memorials near the courthouse or square. On the memorials I've seen, fallen civil war soldiers are several times greater than those for all other wars combined.

My point? Public service. Well, heck fire. Here's my bit of public service for today: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aatZlsRzu6fw&refer=home

Oh I thought it was the whole Popeye - Brutus - overthrow the government - neocon New American Century - Bush doctrine - I am the decider connection. I heard Olive Oyl could make your toes curl. Et tu, Monica?

I don't care what Armitage said or who Fitzgerald cleared... Karl Rove was directly involved in the intentional and malicious outing of Valerie Plame! Just look at the facts, people!!!!!

Look, Mr. Lawrocket dude, Appeasement of tyrants does work. I don't have any historical examples of it working... but that doesn't change the fact that it works. My poly-sci prof at Berkeley told me it does and he's got a Ph.D.... so he knows what he's talking about. You should do your homework before spouting off about Clinton and Carter ....... and FDR. blah blah blah blah blah Armed conflict is not the answer. Carter proved that when he boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Or is it making fun of the way Democrats try to shut the door on the Clinton Admin. responsibilities as of Jan 2001 and claim nothing they did or didn't do before that date has any bearing on today? - Oh great. Bring up Bill Clinton. Look! He got a blowjob. She was 22. It's no big deal. Really none of anybodies business. so leave it alone, already. OKAY? And he didn't lie. Okay? So just leave it alone. It's from the last millenium. Ancient history. Okay? And he did everything possible to fight terrorism and capture Osama. That Chris Wallace is such a little weasel. When will you people stop dragging Clinton into everything?

I just don't get why Bush has not been Impeached!
NCclimber replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
His point was Bush made claims that were consistent with the opinions of top Democrats, for the previous four years. Much like the Foley drama, this is a case of selective outrage. All along, while Bill, Hillary, Madeline, Kerry, Sandy, Nancy, Ted et al made claims of Saddam's capabilities - the standard response is "Oh. Okay. Thanks for the info". Then when Bush says the same thing, every one is crying Bush lied! Bush lied!!! That's the reality of the situation. -
What's your point? That there's a lot of on going violence in Iraq?

And how many of those quotes were based on the cherry picked intelligence that was provided to Congress as routed through the office of special plans via Cheney's office? It's a pretty safe bet that at least seven of them were not. -

From the article above: So Iraq Body Count misses over 95% of the deaths because they can't get that second source. For the sake of argument, let's say soldier deaths (US, Iraqi & insurgent) are 20,000. If you add those to the Iraq Body Count numbers, we're still around 10% of this new estimate. Do you really think nine out of ten deaths, specifically those linked to US intervention, go unnoticed... unreported?

With a few lectures (double entendre intended) on the amount of responsibility that goes along with making babies. On a different note, my wife told me about something called Parental Peer Pressure. It's about other parents trying to tell you what is appropriate or inappropriate for your children. "Oh, come on, all the girls in the sixth grade are getting tattoos".

NCclimber replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Considering that claim was made after we invaded Iraq, it does nothing to support the premise that "Bush lied" to justify going to war. However, in reading the transcript for that interview, it's interesting to read what Rumsfeld said regarding troop numbers and requests for additional troops. Growing up I was told "If you're gonna do something, do it right". -

Hey Goofy, I'm still waiting for you to provide a link for that quote. Or is you claim that Bush said those exact words... a lie?
