  1. The current exemption is $2million. Thanks for the info.

I disagree about their influence. Educational policy comes from government (local, state, federal) and the unions have little influence. From wikipedia: The NEA gave $65 million in its members' dues to left-liberal groups in 2005.
  3. Says the man who previously posted: "The left has Al Franken who is certainly funnier than she is" You can't possibly be serious in suggesting that Ann Coulter is more of a comedian (comedienne?) than Al Franken? This would fall into the category of "delusional." But...it's all just semantics. And missing the point.

Unions are overwhelmingly liberal and there aren't too many teachers outside of the union. If it walks like a duck..... Well, you are assuming that the teachers have control of the system. Bad assumption. Seems like he was assuming the teacher's UNIONS have some control of the system. Is that a bad assumption? Perhaps you intentionally (and conveniently) missed that point. Are you now saying that some liberals have some level of control of the system? That was not the original claim that I disputed. No. The point is that teachers unions have an obvious liberal leaning and they have a major influence over most of the education systems in this country.
  5. Fair enough. IMO inheritance taxes should be be progressive, with a large amount being exempt, i.e. $1million, and a reasonable limit on the maximum tax rate.

  7. Every dollar in circulation is taxed over and over and over again as it circulates within the economy. Your argument is quite illogical. Nice job on using a tangential (but basically irrelevant) concept to discount his point. Illogical. His point is invalid. That's why inheritance taxes exist. Your attempt at nitpicking is invalid too, as usual. What is the justification of tax-free gifts, up to $10,000.00? Beats me. Next question: What is the major difference between inheritance taxes and sales taxes? I ask because you seem to saying all taxed transfers should be treated equally.

  9. Where do you get this? How many of her books have you read? Are you basing this on anything more than the emotional handgrenades she lobs out there every time she's got a new book to promote?
  10. How about book sales? TV appearances (as a pundit)? He did write the screenplay for Stuart Saves His Family. It failed to gross $1 million at the box office. How are the ratings for his radio program?

Those who support the right wing..... Wow. I bet no one saw that coming.

You really do have squint to see the world in such a myopic way. Unbelievable.

  14. Which scenes did he fabricate? Someone drawing an incorrect inference does not constitute a lie. What a load of BULLSHIT! What are you saying? That you think lawyers never lie? Oh look. Another one of Kallend's "well, Johnny did it first" style of childish (il)logic.
  15. Care to elaborate with specific examples you can back up? http://www.snopes.com/rumors/flights.asp
  16. How about "devoted fans"? My point was that people go away from his films thinking certain things are true, when they are not. Even when this deceptions and tactics are exposed, his fans are unfazed. I get it. She winds up a bunch of lefties, which dramatically increases her exposure, which improves her book sales. And she does this over and over and over and over.....
  17. Well, the things that Coulter says are usually indefensible. Given that, she still has her fair share of defenders. Also, I rarely hear Michael Moore say anything that he doesn't back up with at least SOME form of defense. Something like "Jews are imperfect Christians" is pretty hard to defend in any kind of logical way. Yeah... Michael Moore just fills his films with blatant misrepresentations... and still his followers think it's all true. It's funny how some people think it's okay to distort the truth if they agree with the general message. Did you guys here about Al Gore getting the Nobel Peace Prize?
  18. But until the system is changed, people should quit making it the scapegout just because they're still pissed about previous results.
  19. Well said. One thing I've noticed around here (and I could be way off base) is that when there's a discussion about Ann Coulter or some other rightwing loudmouth, few conservatives actually defend her. On the other hand, when the discussion is about some inflamatory statement is made by a leftwing attention whore, i.e. Michael Moore, the liberal posters defend him tooth and nail.

  21. Well gee Wally, that's swell. He's still a hypocrite.
  22. Sorry Bill. That's a bit of a disconnect. Borlaug contributions weren't about individuals dietary habits, whereas savior Gore is preaching that we all need to minimize our fossil fule consumption, while doing the opposite. Nice effort, though.
  23. Are you familiar with the concept of property rights?
  24. I'm sorry this recent development hurts the whole blame America first campaign. It was widely reported last June. I don't recall anyone saying it was untrue... or even misleading. Perhaps the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency is actually a shill for Exxon??? Speaking of deniers....
  25. I just read a story on ABC.com about the security tapes being handed over to NYPD. Here's an interesting side issue from that story: I wonder if President Bollinger urged the same restraint to the noose incident.
