  1. This situation is a classic mountain out of a molehill, both at that school and across the internet. I think most people agree that the school over-reacted. Unfortunately, its a sign of a big problem effecting our schools. I'm talking about the hyper-sensitivity of school administrators. A few years back I heard a story about a first grader being disciplined for sexual harassment for kissing a classmate! It's absurd. Our administrators have gotten so hyper-sensitive to whatever "pet peeve" is stroking people's hot buttons that they've forgotten how to use common sense and give an appropriate response to whatever drama comes their way. It's on both sides ideological spectrum. For every puritan over-reaction I can list five over-reactions from the liberal camp. Another result of this growing hyper-sensitivity is the reluctance of administrators to properly discipline students. As a result, many classrooms have one (or a few) bad apples who create a lousy learning environment for the rest of the students.
  2. Apologies if this has already been said: Spooge.
  3. I agree with the points in the OP. In this new show the dialog seems a bit forced and the way they addressed the subject matter gave me the impression they were trying too hard to be edgy. Speaking of Sports Night, one of the funniest insults I've ever seen on TV was when Sam (Wm. H Macy) told the parent company "experts" to hit the road. http://members.aol.com/sportsnightsite/gardnerscript.html It's near the bottom. Just do a word search for Jim-bob.
  4. In the last two months crude prices have dropped almost 25 percent, which means oil company sales have dropped by the same amount, which means they are taking a big hit. Are Exxon, Shell et al really gonna tank the market and slash their earnings for a mid-term election? When Congress began those (idiotic) talks about "windfall profits" taxes, the national average price for gasoline was $2.27/gal. - about 80 cents off the Katrina highs, and the decline was pretty fast. Prices dropped another 15 cents before heading back up. What you said (above) is compelling... even if it's contrary to what actually occurred.
  5. Ding!Ding!Ding!!!! We have a winner folks I have been thinking the same thing for a while now as well. Also BIG OIL may see this as the time to try and weed out some of the compition from alternative fuels which are just now starting to make real strides in the marketplace. Remember there are only a very few oil companies that controle the market. While I would like $1.25 gas again it isn't practical and I really don't think it would be in anybodies best interest. Why do people choose to believe conspiracies, when market fundamentals are much more compelling? Crude prices are currently $60/barrel, down from the July high of $78.50. With the oil companies currently holding/processing product bought at significantly higher prices, they are taking a major hit from these falling prices. Most energy industry analysts are telling the same story. They're much more interested in correctly forecasting future prices than who controls Congress. Do people think all the rival oil companies are colluding, to alter the outcome of the Fall election? At what cost?
  6. Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus I gotta give Frampton Comes Alive a THUMBS DOWN! I was a big fan of his prior to its release. The clean aspects of his earlier music seemed commercially exploited in Frampton Comes Alive. Then again, my bias is probably similar to people who read the book before it was made into a movie.
  7. You think these young men in France are any more organized or directed than the thousands of drunk assholes in America that go gay bashing? Punks are punks, world wide. Nice attempt at getting people to overlook the obvious. These rioters are (for the most part) Muslims immigrants or children of immigrants. Of course, that's irrelevant... right?
  8. A couple thousand in the US alone. 16 bombing or arsons or attempts at them. Plus over a thousand incidents of Invasion, Assault & Battery, Vandalism, Trespassing, Death Threats, Burglary, Stalking... http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_viol.htm This is a silly comparison. The first column (and presumably the most important) lists murders and attempted murders. The total since 2000 is ONE. Well Katie, bar the door. On the flip side, if France did ask for our help, WE SHOULD HELP THEM> Why? Because this is the United States of America and that's what we do. If we want to be considered a global leader, we should act accordingly. Are we somehow exempt from fighting the War on Terror in countries we have differences with?
