Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??
NCclimber replied to simplyputsi's topic in Speakers Corner
It happens several times a year. According to the FBI, roughly 100 times per year in the US. It also happened recently where a man made a "victim" of himself, burning a cross in his own yard claiming it was racists doing the deed. Despicable, as it costs credibility to those that would otherwise be taken seriously. 100 times per year? Got a link. Assuming you're right, how does this figure fit into the 13 MILLION crimes (based on 2005 numbers) committed each year? Is 11,000 another arbitrary number pulled out of thin air? Another arbitrary estimate? -
So are you saying based on the posts we have to read on a weekly basis here, we have a disproportionately large number of the Right Wing Lunitic Fringe in SC??? We all have our own interpretation of reality. I'm guessing you have me lumped in with the "Right Wing Lunitic Fringe". If so, which of my posts led you to this opinion?

Sounds like a very small portion of Republicans.

Your mature eloquence on the issue is refreshing, as always. Although you forgot to mention the word "rePUBEicans" or whatever you call them. and the ever-popular Neo-Cons!

Freemasons, Skull & Bones, etc etc. Who cares?
NCclimber replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
All I'm saying is that it should stay out of politics.....you can do whatever you want on your own time, but when taxpayers are paying for you to make decisions for their best interests keep your and your buddies interests out of it. Do you have any evidence that Freemasonry (as an organization) is involved in politics? My impression (from excellent sources) is that they're mostly about getting away from their wives in the evening and raising money for charities. Like the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes and the Loyal Order of Dinosaurs. -
Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??

It it common for white guys to put on white hats and burn a cross in the front yard of a black man? Or are you just playing to an outdated stereotype? Please, tell us how many times that actually happened in 2006... in a country of 300 million people. Again, you're talking about rare isolated incidents. How many gays have been tied to fence in the last 20 years? So what? The majority of people in the US are white. It is amazing how much energy is devoted to the topic of hate crimes, considering they account for one in six thousand crimes. Someone has derogatory terms spray painted on their garage door... the media laps it up. Five houses in the same sub-division get robbed over the weekend... yaaawn. I do think some crimes should clearly be prosecuted as hate crimes, but the amount of attention "hate crime" receives compared to overall crime is pretty insane. -
So, what you're saying is that other people (taxpayers) should pay for your child's insurance so you can go out to dinner whenever you wish.

Seems like all these foreign investors view the weakness in the dollar as a temporary situation, not part of a continuing trend.

Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??
NCclimber replied to simplyputsi's topic in Speakers Corner
Go back and read many of my earlier posts. I stopped with calling it a hate crime like 5 fucking hours ago. And you confirmed what I have went on to say that fighting at or around a sporting even should carry a heavier penalty. How can I expect you to read that though when you missed the repeated posts saying it should not be a hate crime. Seems like you found a minor point to get worked up over... while conveniently sidestepping the major ones. Smooth -
Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??
NCclimber replied to simplyputsi's topic in Speakers Corner
racial terms imply that you are committing the crime against that person simply because of their race. According to who? Way to miss the point. Moving beyond the particulars of this topic, why do you even care about this? Fights happen at sporting events. If it's such a big deal, change the penalty for assaults at these events. It's pretty easy. But trying to convince us that it's a "Hate Crime" seems like little more than mental gynmastics. -
Yeah. It probably doesn't even qualify as "middle class".

Got a link? I checked out five different stories on this incident. None mentioned anything about her being gang tackled or police using excessive force. You dont just randomly die after being handcuffed. Something went down...thats for sure. That has nothing to do with my point.

Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??

"regular old assault"? How quaint. My question is: why do using racial terms automatically increase the severity of the crime, while other language (intended add insult to injury) is a non-issue? -
Hate crime for assault on opposing team fans??
NCclimber replied to simplyputsi's topic in Speakers Corner
Clearly. I never understood why using racial or sexuality slurs during an assault leads to a whole new set of charges, while profanity,..i.e. Asshole, Mother Fucker, Son of a Bitch is okay. Remember when Jaws called Apollo Creed "Hey Blackie" in Force 10 from Navarone? Technically a hate crime. Go figure. -

I thought it was pretty good. I understand what you're saying but I don't think it's honest to ignore the larger picture and narrow the focus. I think it's more productive to focus on the current situation and how to make the best of it, instead of dwelling on how we got here. If there is something to be learned from the bad policies that got us here, then we should incorporate those lessons in future actions, but the chronic finger pointing is completely unproductive.

What does your question have to do with my post? And who are you talking about by "Lunatic Fringe Base"?

do you really think that all these asides and changes of direction and such ever actually fool people into not realising that you never, ever answer any questions? If you say so. -
Thanks for keeping this on topic and amusing.

Hyperbole wasmy intent. Or are you claiming to be able to read my mind now? Now, which lie are you justifying with this? Are you calling him a liar? Nah, that might get me a warning. -
Obesity may push U.S. health costs above Europe: study

But insurance is all about shared responsibility and shared risk. While that is partially true, insurance rates are adjusted according to relative percieved risks. -

NCclimber replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
How about cholesterol and percentage of body fat? Have a graduated scale for levels of obesity. Also, have programs (including prescribed drugs) for helping people get/keep their weight down. It's about preventative care, right? -

I'm not going to hold your hand and walk you step by step through the thread of this conversation. Well, they come one after another... so fast... it's hard to keep up. If you say so.
