Marijuana growers taking over cottage country
Richards replied to Richards's topic in Speakers Corner
How many people smoke marijuana as frequently as they smoke cigarettes (assuming they are regular smokers)? The average smoker probably does not have enough garden space or time to tend to a pack-a-day habit. Unles somone is a heavy weed smoker I suspect that keeping some casual MJ on hand would not be that hard (although shotgun sent me a link which I will be looking at before I commit myself to that position). Apples and oranges really. Tending to a few plants does not seem as time consuming as home brewing. I kept a few herb plants (basil, oregano..etc) and it was no effort at all. Tried making wine and I would never go to the trouble again. I've never grown it, but having a quick look at sites like this (http://www.greenmanspage.com/guides/growersguide.html) makes me think it's a bit more difficult to grow than basil or oregano (which are some of the easiest plants to grow). I could be wrong. My uncle had a MJ plant although he smoked it rather infrequently so casual tending of one plant was not that big of a deal. But I will check out the link you sent me. Thanks. I have no problem with the cops enforcing the laws. I am just surprised that the laws are still that strict on MJ. Could a simple fine not suffice as opposed to putting someone in prison and giving him a criminal record for simply wanting to smoke a joint? By the way I do not touch the stuff so I am not just forwarding a personal agenda. As for breaking the law and getting caught I do not deny that you are right. If I lived in the US and the laws said I could become a prison bitch for smoking a joint I would not smoke it , or I would not cry if caught. My comment is on the fact that the law requires such a harsh sentence in the first place. Could simple pssession not be like disturbing the peace or speeding? You know...a fine. Why destroy a life over a joint? My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. -
As a Canadian born member of a religious minority (atheist) I would take offense at the PM touting Christian values as Canadian values. Oh wait the current one does that. They are the values that our country was built on. I am an undecided (i think we are called agnostics) but I do not get upset at the obvious fact that the country was founded on christian principles. History is history and heritage is heritage regardless of current beliefs. Unbeleivable. Here most cops turn a blind eye and the ones who do stop you merely confiscate. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. -

Now I may be confused because up in Canada nobody gets busted for simple possession, but do people still get criminal records and jail down there for simple possession? Now now....he has a problem and needs some help. He has uncontrollable sexual urges and cannot be held accountable for his actions. If they had a shred of compassion they would have helped this guy overcome this problem by removing his genitals (there must have been something sharp lying around) thus eliminating his urges. why can't he just go to an airport's public restroom or hire an intern like the rest of the perverts? Now now...he is financialy disadvantaged (a victim) and as a compassionate society we should not demand that he pay for an intern....it should be subsidized by our tax dollars. I gues I would have to know how hard it is to grow MJ as compared to other plants to answer that. If it is like other plants I would probably just grow my own (if I liked it). I suppose. But you're right, if they get a room they will somehow expense it and I have no desire to spend top dollar to support someones sex life. So yes, I will accept my tax dollars going to a private bathroom for these guys as the lesser of 3 evils. What's wrong with bringing mans best freind to a patio. I would love to be able to take my dog out for a beer. With respect to the patio smoking I guess it comes down to individual tolerance. I personally do not like cigarette smoke in a confined area but I have no problem with it in an open one like a patio or outdoor stadium. Like many skydivers I liked to take my rig as carry on so it would not get destroyed. I also liked to request the emergency exit seat but not because I had a desire to be near the exit. I just liked the extra leg room. Some flight attendants have given me odd looks when they spotted the rig and saw where I was seating myself. Anyway, it was just to protect the rig. I had no illusions of a great escape in a disaster. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I'm way too inexperienced to say if you could survive, but as for the ethical aspect, well if the plane is definitely fucked then go for it but if you suspect that leaving would endanger others (which I am guessing it might) then it would be wrong. Agreed. I do however think that it would be fine if smoking were allowed on restaurent patio's (and no I am not a smoker). Banning it from any outdoor location is a bit much. I never claimed that you did. My point was that your argument that legalizing marijuana would eliminate the violence was flawed. A common misconception. I don't deny that but it is irrelevant to the gang violene problem described above My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. -

Why? If it is legal then what business is it of an employer whether or not you use it. So long as you are not using on the job I don't see how that could be justified. I do not deny what you have said, but that does not change the fact that legalization of marijuana will eliminate gang violence. Yes it will put a temporary dent in their pocketbooks but there will always be a demand for something. People will want ecstacy, designer pot with other drugs combined...etc. I agree with legalization but not because I believe it will get rid of gang violence. Maybe, maybe not. I doubt however that these guys will stop being gangsters and go get real jobs just because pot is now legal. All kinds of other drugs and vices. Where there is elligal vice, there is competition and hostile takeovers in their world do not involve a board of directors or shareholders. Ok, I cannot argue your logic there. I am just skeptical about any claim that it will make them go away. But yes, resources tied up in enforeing marijuana would be freed up for larger problems. I admire his heroics, but the fact of the matter is he hired someone to kill his wife. I mean absolutely no disrespect to any veterans but being a vet should not exempt you from being held as accountable as anyone else for crimes of that nature. True. I think that like most people I accept that there will always be an organised crime element, but I expect it to be contained enough that only those who choose to get involved will be affected by it. This no longer seems to be the case. See my response to Normiss on that one. I have never agreed with that argument because there will always be an illegal substance for them to fight over. Repealing prohibition did not kill off the mafia, they just moved on to other vices. If marijuana is illegal then gangs will fight over control of the remaining vices such as coke, heroin, meth, crack, sex slavery, child pornography ....etc. Are you wiling to legalize and tax all those other things? if not the violence will stay. Another approach must be taken to deal with gang violence. Do not get me wrong, I think marijuana should be legal as it seems to be no more harmfull than alcohol, I just don't beleive it will eliminate the gang violence that revolves around illegal vice.
