  1. WTF? Grow ops are so plentifull in cottage country that cottagers are stumbling upon them by accident and facing violence and intimidation. So much for the myth that if you leave these guys alone they won't bother you. I have always seen the pot industry as being relatively innocent compared to the coke/crack/heroin industry but obviously I was way off on that one. Some highlights; "Canada is responsible for a $7-to $10-billion industry with 75% to 85% of marijuana going to the U.S.," "On Oct. 5, two contractors working for the Ministry of Natural Resources driving ATVs on a trail near Minden came upon three armed and masked men dragging bags of harvested marijuana out of the bush. The contractors were taken hostage and tied up with their own belts -- one was pistol-whipped -- while the assailants took their identification and stole their ATVs. That same afternoon, four others using the trail were similarly stopped, tied up, and forced to lie face down on the ground." ""There's so many people scared up here right now," said a man who lives and operates a business in nearby Eagle Lake, and who identified himself only as John for fear of retribution from biker gangs that have threatened him." Not sure what to say. Can this be stopped? Is it inevitable. Should cottagers simply stop going up there? Should the authorities crack down big time (I think so)? 2. Sad but true. What I find equally frustrating is that many accept this as an inevitable byproduct of progress . My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  3. Well then the term is a wee bit misleading isn't it? Shouldn't they come up with a more apropriate term like visually disabled or something? Well as embarrasing as this is to admit I first read it and thought this was the coolest thing I ever read. I figured the old guy used his sense of hearing or something like that. Anyway. I have learned something about legal blindness at least. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  4. Well, that kind of ruins the story now doesn't. But thanks, I didn't know that. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  5. http://www.wesh.com/news/14437963/detail.html Not much to say on this one but good shooting. Like to know how he pulled that off. What is particularly interesting is the perspective of the authorities on this. They have actually praised the old guy (as they should). If this happened in Canada the senior citizen would have been the bad guy and the burglar would have sued his ass while the old guy did time in prison. 6. Precisely. Too many teachers identify with the in crowd and themselves loath the weird kid My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  7. I doubt he was actually trying to speak literally for every single person who applies for a liscence. Do you honestly beleive he meant it that way? My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  8. Well said. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  9. Always hated that. Sing it the way it was written to be sung. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  10. I guess it depends on the person. I vent a lot when I see things that upset me but in reality I do not react the way that I vent. For example, when I read in the newspaper about a child molester I think "I wish I could have 5 minutes alone with that guy to exact a little justice", but if I did in fact run into the guy I would not be willing to risk getting a criminal record by acting out the fantasy of killing him. In my case the venting is more cathartic. I am not actualy violent. Fair point. 11. Oh relax.Do you really beleive I meant it literally when I said I would shoot an unarmed man? Just venting at the thought of some dickhead breaking into a home where people worked hard to build something for themselves. Maybe it's not so much that people are bloodthirsy as they are fed up with turds who steal, vandalize, break in...etc. Even if you are not a victim of a property crime (which I have been on several occasions) the inconvenience of allways having to go to lengths to prevent becoming a victim of property crime has a cost too. Insurance, constantly having to double check my doors when I leave my house...etc. Just the other day I parked in a public parking lot and saw two shady looking characters who appeared to be checking out cars and since I did not want mine broken into I stayed and kept an eye on them. They appeared to be waiting for me to leave and stood there for no apparent reason doing nothing but looking in my direction occasionally as if they wanted to see if I left yet. Eventually the two of them decided to leave but by then I was late because I was watching these guys. Could I have been wrong in my suspicions about them ? Perhaps..but I doubt it. Either way I had to incurr an opportunity cost lest I risk incurring a real financial cost. It seems nowadays if things aren't bolted down they are gone and even that doesn't seem to be good enough. Add to this the fact that the law seems to have no teeth and people who commit these crimes seem to get a slap on the wrist and thus have no disincentives from doing it again and again while people like myself who are struggling to get by so some jerk can steal it or vandalize it ....well I get fed up. Why should good people always lose while dickhead theives win (and yes they win far more than they ever lose). Pardon me if I vented but I guess I can empathize with the fantasy of shooting some jerk burglar. That does not make me bloodthirsty....just fed up. 12. I'd have shot him on the spot. Why? Then you would have to clean the place. I agree with EXAFO, make the other guy clean up his own mess and then shoot him. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  13. No. If she had agreed to all services and then they refused to pay at the end then it would be theft of services. Once she was forced at gunpoint to participate in sexual activities she did not want to be part of it became rape. 14. I have never heard it put in such harsh perspective but I guess you are right, there are some extreme righties who really do take that approach and I do not agree with them. Not to be difficult, but I feel compelled to point out that there are some democrats who feel that an unborn can be killed even minutes before it pops out, that the mother can use whatever abusive substances she wants and destroy the baby's chance of being born healthy because "it" has no rights and yet once it pops out we have an obligation to coddle him/her for a lifetime's worth of unlimmitted rights. After he is born the entire "village" must raise this child even in his 30's, 40's and 50's. 15. Where did anyone suggest that the mentally incompetent or little children should be walking around armed? My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  16. Possibly. It seemes that in throughout history, trained armies have been given grief by small groups of insurgents and such. Given that a large portion of the population may have served at one time or another the possibility of raising an ad hoc militia would not be unreasonable. Throw in hunters and natives who may have a better than average grasp of the terrian outside the cities and it seems actually quite plausible. Again it would be much easier if there were already guns in place. 17. The US military will not always be the supreme superpower in this world. Someday someone else will be more powerfull and unless we acheive some sort of majical world harmony the risk of occupation would not just be the stuff of cheezy B movies. I'm no expert but evidence indicates that in fact an armed insurgency can grind down an occupying force. Ceteris paribus I would much rather invade a country like Canada where guns are at a minimum than invade the US where across the vastness of your country lays a heavily armed population. 19. Oh thats it! We are hitting your house first! You will be sent to a Canuckistanian Re-Education camp, where you will be indoctrinated with videos of david suzuki, music by ann murray and a straight diet of canadian beer and maple syrup. Seen clockwork orange? Be afraid! My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  20. Nope. No coincidence. We even manipulated an American firm into buying Laura Secord Chocolate Inc. We all recall what she did! It's as deep as the Da Vinci Code. They will have no clue what hit them when we dominate the continent. 21. We are the infestation all nations fear. Once a few of us get in we breed like cockroaches and spread our ideology like a lingering stench from coast to coast while corrupting their childrens minds with our propaganda. We first had to take holywood, next the media....we are taking them from within! 22. I just keep hoping Canada will invade the US to restore democracy. Be afraid...be very afraid. Canada is a highly militant country with a vicious military. We will send the might of our forces (about 9 battalions I think, unless you include our reserves) over your border. Our 20 some-odd CF18's could fly for at least an hour worth of combat with your forces before requiring 72 hours of maintenance. And do not forget our Navy; much like yourselves we have a two ocean navy with half our fleet on the Atlantic and the other boat on the Pacific. Oh yeah....you guys are in deeeeep shit! We will assimilate you, force you into a diet of maple syrup and Canadian bacon. Think of how many of us already live amongst you. Celine Dion isn't merely retiring in discrace in Las Vegas.....She is performing reconnaisance!! 23. Gee thanks. I don't know wether or not I would prefer NAMU, Canada becoming actual US states or status quo. So seriously, what is your take? Do you wish to leave things the way they are, do a north american union, absorb Canada as states...etc? My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  24. Would you actually suggest that Canada and Mexico be absorbed into the US or are you suggesting that we become terrirories/protectorates like Puerto Rico? Incedentally what is your beef with Canada and it's British influence to the north of you? We are small and have almost zero influence on your lives? 25. I doubt most people would take it to that extreme. Most just wish that there would be some sort of official acknowledgement that this does happen. It's almost as though it is taboo to recognise it. I do not personally beleive that racism is just a term used by minorities and that all claims are merely race-baits. I do however see that it does happen with alarming frequency. I also see that anyone who points out that it happens is usually accused of either being a racist, having their head in the sand and/or being accused of wanting to beleive there is no racism so as to protect a status quo.
