I suppose now you are going to tell me there is no Santa Claus To be honest with you Bagels are not good for you. They are the equivalent of eating like 5 slices of bread. A peice of a Toast and an Egg would be much much better. Also...if you are not active and don't workout why would you want a Carb heavy diet? Derec Davies Big_Red

Girls who don't play games?!? I thought they were merely a myth! lol I used to work for Lavalife and Girls that don't play games are few and far between it sometimes seems. I myself am also not really into Girls who play games. I tend to get annoyed with the situation and just walk away from it. Not worth it. My old roommate firmly believes that "most" girls don't even really pay that much attention to guys looks. What he has found makes them tick is the ability to make them laugh and keep them laughing. I avoid Real Player and all things Real Player like the plague. I knew it tries to take over your computer, but I didn't know it now came chock full of Spy Ware. C'est La Vie Quicktime it will have to be... Derec Davies Big_Red

Is there anything else that will play .mov files? I won't install Quicktime at work and at home it is fubar'd for some reason and I have just been too lazy to uninstall and reinstall. Derec Davies Big_Red

Collapsable Pilot Chute on a Sabre 190. Thoughts?
Big_Red replied to Big_Red's topic in Gear and Rigging
You are more then welcome to but seeing as how I don't have any ideas on Wing Loading it would really be "Big Red's lack of big ideas about Wing Loading" Well...I am sure my Instrustor appreciates the compliment but by no means is he the all knowing creater of Heaven and Earth. BTW...I will have no problems admitting that I am not ready for my 190 should that be the case. I would like to point out 1 thing though. The only people telling me to go with a bigger canopy are a bunch of people on a message board I have never met who are making judgement calls based on the number of jumps listed in my profile. My Instructor, the DZO, other jumpers, my skydiving friends and everyone else who has seen me jump and land my last 11 jumps have all agreed that a 190 is a good choice for me. ---- Again...I do appreicate everyones concern for my Wing Loading, and I do read everything (even bounce it off my friends afterward) so please feel free to keep posting your opinions. Another thing I would like note is that several people have said that "If I have doubts, I should go bigger"...however I have at no point in time indicated that I have doubts about my ability to fly a 190. Will that change when I jump it...only time will tell. I will make sure to keep everyone up-to-date though. I also want to thanks those that have posted replies in regards to the Collaspable PC. They have all been very helpful. Derec Davies Big_Red -
Hot glue smell after 1st jump
Big_Red replied to mattyblast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I didn't smell anything funny after my first jump but after my first 2 or 3 Solo Jumps I found that I had a fountain of snot running out of my nose. (pretty picture I am sure) It was almost like my sinuses had opened right up and upon landing the allergens (I think they ganged up on me) decided to attack my newly opened sinuses. I can honestly say that that much snot has not come out of my nose before. hahahahaha Derec Davies Big_Red -

Collapsable Pilot Chute on a Sabre 190. Thoughts?
Big_Red replied to Big_Red's topic in Gear and Rigging
I made sure to talk to my Instructor in the fall about the fact that I was buying gear this winter; and when it comes to Me, my skills, and my current Wing Loading I have faith in my Instructor (who has watched 11 of my 12 jumps) and am confident in his ability to look at my skill level and make an appropiate recommendation for Canopy Size. As well, I will be flying a 220 in the spring for my first bunch of jumps and if they turn out to be a little scary not only will I continue to fly it but I am sure my Instructor would make the same recommendation. I do appreciate everyones concern over my current Wing Loading...and please understand that I am reading what you are all writing and I am taking it all in however the purpose of this thread was to get peoples thoughts on some mods I have been thinking of in regards to my Rig. Collapsable Pilot Chute on a Sabre 190. Thoughts?
Big_Red replied to Big_Red's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thank for all the replies so far. I definitely plan on talking to my Instructor/Rigger about my Gear and the mods I want done to her but I still figured I would get peoples opinions. As for the loading. I come in about 195/200lbs without gear and I put my weight with gear at 230lbs on my profile. My last jump was on a 220 and it went beautifully. In fact I downsized on my last 4 jumps from a 288 to a 220 (288, 260, 240, 220). I have not jumped in a few months due to the winter but my first few jumps back will be with that 220. The reason I bought a 190 is because my Instructor/Rigger (and most people I spent last summer jumping with) indicated that a 190 would be a good starting Rig cause I am loading it 1:1 (or just above). Personally I think if I bought something any bigger I would spend more money trying to downsize again before the end of next summer. Derec Davies Big_Red -
Collapsable Pilot Chute on a Sabre 190. Thoughts?
Big_Red replied to Big_Red's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have just purchased a Javelin J4 with a Sabre 190 main. Currently it has a Non-Collapsable Pilot Chute. I have had some people suggest getting a Collapsable and others have suggested I not bother cause it is a 190. Any thoughts? Advantages one way or the other? Is there anything I will do with my 190 that would require it? I am weighing it down 1.21lbs/Sq ft. P.S. Also looking for your thoughts on: - Collapsable Slider? - Leg Strap Mod? I am like that with my stuff (CD's and DVD's) but I tend to leave everyone else's alone. Alphabetized based on the type of DVD Case...all perfectly lined up. Everything in my work space has to have its own place and that is where it stays till I decide it needs a new one. My friends love to come over and move my shit around...they get a kick out of the fact that I can talk into my room and know something is off. I had a Rigger in Cali ask me if I was Anal as he watched me tie up my shoes. When my friends said Yes...he commented on how I would make a good Rigger. *shrug* Derec Davies Big_Red

That is what the passanger is for! * Pull the chamber full before putting the bong up to your mouth (never have to take your hands off the wheel or the shifter) * Rolling blunts while you weave your way through Traffic! And as for talking on the Cell Phone...well...most people arn't co-ordinated enough to do that with an Automatic so... lol Derec Davies Big_Red

Being from Toronto, Canada I am very use to the Winter. I also enjoy many Winter activities such as Skiing, Snow Football, etc. But I have to admit...seeing as how this is the end of my first season of Skydiving I curse the Winter! As the cold slowly rolled in I found myself wanting to just wish it away. lol *shakes fist at Winter* Derec Davies Big_Red

Thanks skymama! ;) I am not familiar with Terry Goode from SDMB unfortunately. When I was there I did my tandem with Jay Stokes and I believe Rob (??...maybe last name Kelly) did my Video. I would probably have to watch my Tandem Video to confirm. Derec Davies Big_Red

Hello Everybody! I have been Skydiving for just over a year now. I did my first jump last August at Skydive Monteray Bay and just Loved It! As hard as it was I decided to hold off doing another jump and decided to wait till this summer when I was back home and able to do my full progression. I now have 12 Jumps and am completely hooked. lol I have been checking out www.dropzone.com since the beginning of the summer but decided to make myself a member today. I just wanted to say "It is nice to meet Everyone and I look forward to getting a chance to chat with you all!" :) Derec Davies Big_Red
