Hi Shannon - I just started my AFF when you left us. I remember all the response here very well: I was making guacamole yesterday and suddenly you came to mind - I saved the seed and thought I'd plant it for you! "Ha ! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear ..." (Blackadder)

Riser flaps opening in free fall...
Sweetness replied to DebaucheroRdrgz's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have an old Javelin as well and exactly the same problem... My rigger put some extra stiffener in, but it doesn't help a lot. Although I like the harness a lot, I'm starting to look around to buy a new one. I'm a belly flyer but whenever I have to float on exit or when I'm in a funnel, the covers start to flap.I've heard from other people with the same harness and the same problem... "Ha ! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear ..." (Blackadder) -

Tandem dive for a guy with ALS in the Kansas City area?
Sweetness replied to k8fan's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
Hey there, Yes please keep us posted about the jump. I truely wish the tandem can be arranged and your brother-in-law will enjoy it (I'm sure he will). A very close friend of my family died from ALS 8 years ago. He always was fascinated by the sky and I remember we took him to see an air show. He was so happy and it was like part of his spirit was flying with the airplanes in the sky and he could feel free and liberated from his handicap because of that. When I started skydiving 2,5 years ago, I often regreted not realizing sooner that it would have been amazing for him to be able to skydive, and I hope he's flying in the skies now. That's why I hope so badly it will work out for your brother-in-law. For people who are trapped in their own body, skydiving will give SUCH a sense of freedom ... it would mean the world to him, I'm sure -
Reading all these posts, it's not hard to tell JP -like Shannon- meant so much to so many of you and he must have been a wonderful person. I'm thinking of you all, of his girls and his wife, and I'm hoping and wishing his soul is at peace and flying free ... "Ha ! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear ..." Is "Little Britain" alternative ? 'Cause I like it

I sure can believe *that* ! I have to admit, since I started jumping myself, I always said I wouldn't do a tandem again for the lack-of-control-reasons. But the nice weather, free jump, no packing and good instructor made me decide to do it at that moment. But still, during the jump, I didn't like the lack of control either. In the end, I still prefer a rig on my back and not an instructor "Ha ! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear ..." (Blackadder)

Past Saturday I did my third tandem jump. The tandem master was finishing up his course but had to do his last level and I volunteered. The difference with the previous tandems is that in the meantime I started skydiving myself. It was such a strange experience ! It's funny how you get used to being responsible for your own life in the air ! As a whuffo you don't know anything, so you put your life in your tandem masters hands without thinking twice. Now with this tandem jump, I thought about it the whole afternoon before agreeing I would be his passenger. And I was so much more nervous than on my two first tandems ! The weirdest moment was in the plane when the swoopers jumped at 5000 ft. I sat next to the open door, and although I was hooked up to the TM, I didn't feel the weight of my rig on my back, and felt very uncomfortable. Then before jumping out I checked a hundred times if I was properly attached to the TM. Right out the door, I had apparently instinctively let go my hands of my harness and put my body and arms into a diving position. Under canopy I only felt completely at ease when I was holding the toggles myself.

2nd that ! Plus there's just about everything to find in that city: a beach (yes, another advantage, it's situated near the Mediterenean Sea), museums (Picasso, Miro, ...), the Olympic village, the old part of town (Gothic architecture), the modern part of town, La Boqueria (a huge covered market place), shopping streets, stroling streets (las Ramblas), the soccer stadion from FC Barcelona (could be interesting for your son, if he's coming too), good climat (not too hot in the summer), nice food, ... Well eh, just wanted to say: Barcelona !
