I know several brown shoes (and a black shoe) that jump regularly.

You might want to consider what your DZ is teaching. I'd want all my instructors teaching the same exits. You want consistency to avoid confusion.

Reason not to tell tandem student details about what happens after opening
Shark replied to efs4ever's topic in Instructors
....and going in is not an alternative. Just think of the paperwork involved and the debate on dizzydotcom. -
It's "cool". ....even cooler at night.

Doing a tandem or two does not make you a skydiver. You made a skydive. Doing the tandem progession will eventually make you into a skydiver. Completing AFF level 1 with the intention of getting your license makes you a skydiver. Many people consider themselves skydivers without ever having landed their own parachute, ie. did a few tandems over the years. As a skydiver you will know when someone is trying to blow shit up your ass, and they will never make it to the DZ.

don't rely on it at all....it is mechanical and it can fail...now having said that. cypres are good and most likely won't fail. Electro-mechanical and when operated correctly, shouldn't fail.

If you plan on doing a tandem you should make a reservation. For AFF bring your log book and plan on doing a short retrain and possibly the last level you completed.

One-man downplane landing on Fort Bragg
Shark replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Safety and Training
Pretty freakin' wild! Yep, I can see that he might have survived a drag-plane, but a diving down-plane seemed unsurvivable. He should go buy a lottery ticket. -
16 August 1960, Capt. Joe Kittinger reached over 700mph.

Congratulations! It's a lot of fun, but be prepared for some gray hairs the next time you look in the mirror.
-
I didn't give up, either. Besides, you wore your Z1 full face on my repeat level 3. BTW, your kid has completed 667 AFFs and 400 tandems.

Students will figure it out for themselves. Either that or their bank account will dictate whether they continue. If they are having problems I will take them to the wind tunnel and work with them on the ground pre- and post jump. Again, it depends on their desire and basic skills....and their wallet. One way or another they'll figure out if it's for them or not. Have I given the talk? Yes.

I do not disagree, but I feel that the right foot forward is best, because that's the set up postion we use for Levels 1-3. Single JM Level 4-5 are with the student in the front float position and JM on mainside. Student may turn 90 degrees prior to giving the exit count allowing him/her better presentation into the relative wind. Seems to be working.

It shows confidence. BTW, is the DZ considered a public place??

They're recommendations, not laws. USPA is trying to make it harder for you to kill yourself.

August 8-12 - Planes turning at Elsinore all week!
Shark replied to curtismelaniej's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Mel, I got confirmation on how that extra altitude was obtained Thursday.... -
I wear either a Galaxy or Neptune on my wrist, plus a Wave on every jump; then again, I'm working.
-
Well I'm not going to complain, it's 20 seconds more than we had! Yep! I plan to fly a little more than 20 seconds in the new SVA tube first week of November.
-
...old news.

Long spot, uh? Well, the upside is I got REALLY good at tracking!! Frenchy, you didn't show up for all the beer I bought! FGF-2 ....like the Great Circle route?
-
Not I, but then again it's Chicks Rock time 7-9 October!

Yes, and no.

Day off for me tomorrow. Friday, definitely. I'll wear my anti-G team shirt, too! Well, after work anyway. -
It was pretty cool.....all 20 seconds of it.
