The solution would be, finding out why the person wants to come to my drop zone and randomly shoot people, and solve that problem. The solution, I am certain, would be cheaper for society as a whole, than providing guns, and providing the justice system to deal with those people as criminals after the fact. Not to mention the medical costs, the insurance, the lawsuits, the EMS services, the police, the devastation to families and friends. But the USA is also in denial of that. "Personal responsibility", even if you are mentally ill and incapable of such a thing.

Medicare Actuary Doubts Health Care Law Will Hold Down Costs
tkhayes replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
hate to agree with ruchmc, but I never believed that the Health Care Bill would do anything for costs. As long as the private sector is involved in paying for it, there will always be an overhead, dictated by them and lobbied for by them. Given that we already spend more per capita for health care and have 60 million uninsured, there is no doubt that the system is NOT working. Forcing people to buy it from private insurance companies will not solve the problem. Hopefully after this fails, they will realize that the "Medicare for all" plan would probably be the best and the cheapest option for everyone. I bet it fails and that the Republicans jump on the "Medicare for all" bandwagon down the road, (probably right before an election), and then claim the idea as their own..... -
Passenger cleared after TSA checkpoint stare-down

at least it shows that the system works and the powers of some are in check. Now the question is - will the legislature continue to give more and more powers to these agencies every time we are under a 'threat'? -
308....Is this a good cartridge for long range use?
tkhayes replied to steve1's topic in Speakers Corner
very true. I have found that most civilian shooters can't hit fuck all past 150yds. (me included) I have noticed that those with a military background are good with iron sights up to 400yds or so. Must be that great military training. Since hunting was always my game, I did not bother with shots over 100yds mostly because I did not want to spend the next 24 hours tromping through the woods trying to find some wounded animal. If I can't knock it down, I was not interested in pulling the trigger. So for most people, any .30 calibre is a good rifle - like you say - the limitation is certainly NOT the weapon or the ammo. -
Annual Causes of Death in the United States
tkhayes replied to virgin-burner's topic in Speakers Corner
the 'government' did not decide and uphold that marijuana is dangerous, the courts did. While the courts ultimately are part of the government, the legislature can easily override the courts by changing the laws. I do not believe that the government thinks marijuana is dangerous. I think they are too lame to change the law for fear of election repercussions. I do believe that the war on drugs has gained the same notoriety amongst government and funding in that it is now part of the 'military industrial complex' and cannot be stopped without radical changes that again, lobbyists - who supply all the cool technology to fight it- would fight with every inch of their might. Basically it boils down to people making a lot of money from drug wars, all the way from private security to private prisons to suppliers of drones to fence builders.... -
US child appeals against being tried for murder as an adult
tkhayes replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
but if SHE had a gun, she could have defended herself - Obviously that must be the problem.... -
actually the thread is titled 'more guns less crime', maybe you missed that. I never claimed NO crime and you are simply reading the bits that please you and ignoring the bits that do not. I am spoofing the argument of more guns = less crime given the example I cited and I stand by that argument.
-
actually that claim has been made many times inside and outside of DZ.com, if you would bother to search....perhaps not by yourself, but by many others.
-
Claiming that crime will stop, if you wave your magical wand and sprinkle the 'EVERYONE HAS A GUN' fairy dust everywhere is, as illustrated, a fantasy.

Yes, I own quite a number of long guns, and I have been shooting since I was 6 years old. competition target, trap, skeet, high-calibre, lots of hunting over the years. That does not mean that I do not believe this country has a serious gun problem, nor does it mean that I agree with gun registration as done in Canada (an assumption here that many like to make of course)

your assumption(s) are incorrect....

308....Is this a good cartridge for long range use?
tkhayes replied to steve1's topic in Speakers Corner
.308 is a great all-round ammo for everything. Probably not great for that 1000yd shot - like any of us can make those anyway. If you want longer range, .30-06, 7mm magnum probably better choices. -
actually, I disagree with you more guns did nothing to stop the crime. The claim of just that situation has been made more than once by pretty much everyone who replied to my original post at one time or another. NO guns would stop gun crime. More guns will only only mean more gun 'events' mostly bad ones, not too many good ones. the argument that for every 'example I find' there is an opposite 'find' by someone else. rubbish.

http://www.whtc.com/news/articles/2011/jan/24/detroit-police-station-shooting/ One case where more guns did nothing to lessen the crime from happening.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfSN4fnXwKM This ain't Alabama, but it has the same effect. Truly scary, but to us Canucks - it was/is fucking hilarious and says it all. You have to watch it to the end, Huckabee featured. -
Only an American could claim that some other country is violating his 'constitutional rights'. Textbook example of why the world gets 'pissed off' with Americans/America in general.
-
Careful Mike, one could construe your comment to mean that you are all for banning guns...... I said it years ago - if there were no guns, then there could be no gun crime.....it's an extreme idealism, but it it also a true statement. I no longer advocate that, but if this country thinks that it does NOT have a gun problem, then the battle is already lost.....what's the solution? I give up. When you see laws being loosened up even more after some nut opens fire in a crowd, I can only assume that the lawmakers have no idea what the solution is either....
-
that is about the lamest argument I have ever seen. It could only possibly work if everyone were FORCED to carry a gun and were willing to use it in such time of an emergency. I doubt that 10% of the population meets that standard (my guess)
-
yes, but to drive, you have to prove that you are competent to drive, you have to be educated in driving and then tested in driving....albeit minimal. Al lot of people argue for ongoing testing for drivers, like pilots to keep people's skills up. For guns, there is no such test. I am all for a requirement to own and use a gun, the user must have taken and passed gun handling, gun safety programs. Along with recurrent training to maintain that rating.

I am still amazed at how many people believe he was nothing but a traitor and guilty of treason...... Great men there are few - but he was definitely one of them

Never owned an Auto, but have Browning BPS Pump and 3 Browning O/U trap/skeet guns, including a very old pigeon grade Belgium Made - really nice. Trouble I cannot hit shit with it in trap - I still shoot far better with the pump. Always liked the Browning auto, but i watched one come apart once - the barrel had a crack at the base and the entire barrel launched off the gun when it was fired, everything down to the receiver - funny as fuck, but not really. That Beretta looks like fun, but who needs 12 shells for ducks or pheasant? Unless of course you are really that bad a shot.....
